The worst thing to keep from your lover is a secret...
Mallory is in love; his boyfriend Alex is all that he could possibly want, and the life they're building together makes him happy—almost happy enough to ignore the fact that Alex is clearly keeping secrets. As close as they are, Mallory knows practically nothing about him. Alex travels a lot, and frequently comes home smelling of blood, reluctant to discuss his mysterious job. As Mallory has a secret of his own that he is loathe to share, he lets it go.
Until Alex comes home smelling strongly of magic, and Mallory's need to know overcomes his desire to leave well enough alone and cling to happiness. But his need to know has unexpected consequences, and puts both of their lives in danger...
Kaseka Nvita has been making up stories and writing them down for as long as she can remember. Her stories have had queer protagonists since high school, when she learned that love is, in fact, for everyone. Always carrying pens, a notebook, and a book in her purse makes her bags rather hefty, but there’s no telling when stories will bite, or she’ll have a moment to read. Kaseka lives in the mid-Midwest.
It's too bad this author doesn't write anymore (at least not under this pen name). I really enjoyed the story and the characters. It is very low heat but I felt the connection between the characters.
There was a lot of information coming to readers at the start of the book which took following the story a bit hard. It was almost as if I was just reading from the middle of the story. Character's names were being mentioned and no one was being introduced really. I kind of got the intention the author had for writing the story the way she did but I had to go back to reread some passages over and over again to make sure I hadn't missed something when a new character was introduced. Anyway by the time every character is sorted out and I got what was going on(which really wasn't too long), the book really became a very interesting read. I'm usually drawn to stories that have self-sacrifice as a theme and Mallory really won some props from me .
Love & Wrath has all the elements I love in a story: fantasy, action, a bit of angst, romance, and well... secrets.
I loved this universe and it would be nice if Kaseka writes more stories about it... whether spin-offs or a follow through of Mallory's and Alex's love story. :)
