Why Does the World Exist won 2012 New York Times Top 10 Book of the Year. Based on the personal experience of the author Jim Holt, the book tells that the author was shocked by the question ""why does the world exist rather than nothing"" while reading the works of Sartre and Heidegger in his youth and hence took the journey to explore the origin of the universe.
Jim Holt is a longtime contributor to the New Yorker -- where he has written on string theory, time, infinity, numbers, truth, and bullshit, among other subjects -- and the author of Stop Me If You've Heard This: A History and Philosophy of Jokes.
