A Torch for Trinity #1

A Torch for Trinity

Rate this book
The new schoolmarm in the one-room school outside Cedar Ridge, Washington, hardly matched the rough and tumble country kids' expectations. Trinity Mason was college educated, pretty and petite, and the sternest taskmaster they had known! Likewise, the isolated country school was the last place Trinity envisioned herself. Committed to her grandmother's belief that the torch of learning must be passed from one generation to the next, Trinity perseveres.

However, a chance meeting at a family party with the rugged logger and farmer Will Thatcher makes Trinity forever thankful God led her there.

Together Will and Trinity carve a life in the Washington wilderness despite natural disaster, disease, and the Great Depression.

COLLEEN L. REECE writes under the pen name Connie Loraine and is one of Heartsong's most popular authors. Colleen learned to read beneath the rays of a kerosene lamp. The kitchen, dining room, and her bedroom in her home near the small logging town of Darrington, Washington, were once a one-room schoolhouse where her mother taught all eight grades! An abundance of love for God outweighed the lack of electricity or running water and provided the basis for many of Colleen's 140+ books.

Her rigid "refuse to compromise" stance has helped sell more than 6 million copies that help spread the good news of repentance, forgiveness, and salvation through Christ. Colleen helped launch Barbour Publishing's Romance Reader flip books, the American Adventure series, and her own Juli Scott Super Sleuth Christian teen mystery series. In 1998 Colleen was inducted into the HeartSong Hall of Fame in recognition for her contribution to Heartsong's success.

A religious romance novel that warmed my heart. The story follows Trinity Mason, a college-educated schoolmarm, as she navigates her new role in a one-room school outside Cedar Ridge, Washington. Despite initial challenges, Trinity's commitment to her grandmother's legacy of passing on the torch of learning shines through.

What I appreciated most about this book was its emphasis on the value of human life. Trinity's character instills this importance in her students, and it's a beautiful reminder of our worth in God's eyes.
While I enjoyed the book overall, I did feel that the mythical approach to Christianity and the author's charismatic writing style, reminiscent of Pentecostalism, brings a sense of fake mysticism that overshadowed the spiritual truths. This didn't however, detract from the story's inspiring message and the characters' relatable struggles.

If you're looking for a heartwarming and inspirational read, "A Torch for Trinity" isn’t a bad choice overall. With its themes of perseverance, compassion, and the importance of education, as long as your grounded in already sound theology I think you can enjoy this book is just a fun story.
