Though dated (1871), this book remains an excellent, challenging, and convincing survey of the evidence concerning the ending of Mark.

This was a very helpful explanation of exactly why those last twelve verses, so shabbily treated in modern Bible versions, belong in the Bible. Burgon proved his point as thoroughly and scientifically as possible. A must read for anyone who studies Bible translation and the transmission of Bible manuscripts.

Burgon gives an excellent defense here of the genuineness of the last 12 verses of the Gospel of Mark. It’s truly amazing the camel that textual critics demand you swallow: that the “true” Gospel of Mark ends in verse 8, with the disciples being afraid and telling no one about the resurrection, and with no evidence. Meanwhile, 99% of extant manuscripts support the last twelve verses of Mark. This investigation is a crushing blow to the critical text and calls for the outright repudiation of Codices B and Aleph and the modern English versions of the Bible that came from them.
