Trinity is a massage therapist who has issues with men. Her last ex was a no good cheater. But she misses dating, and especially kissing. When she meets Chet she decides she must have him. They start dating and things heat up quickly. They are caught between wanting to prove themselves since their former relationships left them insecure, and doing the right thing, which is to wait for marriage. It proves to be more difficult than either of them anticipated.Chet's first response to Trinity when he receives an unexpected massage embarrasses him, but he wants to see her again. Since he doesn't get any romance in real life, he's writing love stories on the side hoping to become a published author someday. So far he hasn't written a novel good enough to sell, but when he meets Trinity his muse not only returns, but his writing is stellar. Too bad it's only fiction.
Michelle has written over two dozen edgy, inspirational novels. She is a book reviewer and a retired supervisor for the State of Arizona. She currently lives in North Carolina. but will soon be moving to Florida.
I'm the author. I love this series. Here is the little pitch for the book. I think it's pretty cute. What do you think?
Chet is nervous around women, so he secretly writes romance novels on the side when he's not saving lives as an EMT or acting as a lonesome cowpoke in Tombstone. Trinity is a massage therapist who dresses in her Native American costume to compete in rodeos. She's also Chet's inspiration for his secret novel. She just doesn't know it…yet.
First Response is number three in Michelle Sutton’s Tombstone Series. It definitely lives up to the standard of the first two books in terms of its romance, character development and Christian theme. Trinity is a massage therapist and Chet, whom we’ve met in previous books, is an EMT. He’s hurt his back and needs treatment and thus the romance begins. The book is set in modern day Tombstone where ordinary citizens role play characters from the ‘wild west’ for the many tourists that visit. As in previous books, Trinity and Chet participate, but this doesn’t seem to be as central to the story as it was in the first two books. Instead, the real crux of the story is their struggle with sexual purity. Both of them are fairly new Christians and find that the sexual attraction they feel might be more than they can handle, despite their mutual faith. To complicate matters, Trinity’s ex boyfriend, a very nasty fellow, wants her back and continues to threaten her. Of course, Chet saves the day on more than one occasion. The main characters from book one, Sammie and Jimmy, become a sounding board as well as a lifeline for the couple. Also woven into the story is a lovely relationship between Trinity and her elderly grandmother, a fun and feisty lady who has a bit of a mischievous streak. Trinity struggles with abandonment issues because her own mother abandoned her as a child, but with the help of Granny and Chet, she is able to move forward and leave the pain behind. I would give First Response a fairly high rating on the ‘sensual’ meter. For a book that is unapologetically Christian, it also gets pretty steamy at times. It stops at giving a graphic play by play, but some readers may find the sexual references beyond their comfort zone. This is quintessential Michelle Sutton style, however. Sutton isn’t afraid to tread the ‘edgy’ tightrope. She typically tackles real life issues that others shy away from, and presents her characters – even the ‘born again’ Christians - as real, fallible, human beings. I found the book maintained a healthy balance between the romance and the inner struggles faced by the couple. The characters and situations were quite believable and I would recommend the entire series to those who want more than a ‘sweet’ romance, but who want to remain on the moral high ground.
Michelle does not shy away from the HARD stuff, she dives right in with both feet! I loved reading Trinity and Chet's story! When I started this one I told Michelle that the first book in the series was my favorite, I have to rescind that and say that this is my favorite in the series!!! The way that Michelle weaved the story of Trinity and Chet and the story that Chet was writing was amazing! In this story Trinity and Chet struggled to keep their relationship pure, Michelle wrote this story honestly and showed the struggles two people go through. Just because we follow Jesus doesn't mean we're immune to temptation, or falling, with Christ we can overcome it and be victorious! I highly recommend this book and I give it 5 lighthouses and shine a light on it pointing a path to God! WAY TO GO MICHELLE!!!!
I absolutely LOVED this book!!! My favorite out of the Tombstone Treasures series. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Chet and Trinity's story. Getting to know them more. Watching their relationship unfold. The struggles they go through. I love how Michelle's books are real. She writes about real life struggles and throws her characters in the midst of them. I enjoyed seeing how Chet and Trinity's struggles played out. I immediately got pulled into their lives. Cared what happened to them. Michelle weaved a little suspense with a whole lot of HEAT. The woman never ceases to disappoint. She just keeps getting better and better. Michelle, you ROCK!!
Immediately entering this book, I knew it was going to explore moral and religious questions from the viewpoint of the recently 'saved'. What I didn't know was the way Sutton would go about it.
The lives of Sutton's characters develop in ways that make their dilemmas relevant to a Christian reader, recent or otherwise, while a little romance adds some spice to the mix of otherwise-interesting plot. There's a bit of easy-going charm in this world that is quite pleasing, but enough realism to keep it grounded and believable. I think those who have enjoyed the Tombstone Treasures series so far won't be disappointed.
Another fabulous story by Michelle Sutton. Chet and Trinity make a wonderful pair - they both have less than stellar backgrounds, so they are predisposed to be understanding with each other about their pasts. However, that doesn't mean their relationship is easy by any means. A sometimes sweet, sometimes funny, sometimes make you wanna cry story about how God can help overcome securities, the mistakes of a broken past, and the sins of the present.
