The science of esoteric astrology is said to be the basic occult science of the future. Astrology is described in this book as "the science of relationships", a science which deals with those conditioning energies and forces which play through and upon the whole field of space and all that is found within it.
Pease note: this is a different author from Alice Bailey.
Alice A. Bailey (1880-1949) was an English esoteric practitioner and writer. At the age of 35, she entered the Theosophical Society center in Los Angeles (USA), at the Pacific Grove Theosophical Lodge. In 1919, Bailey (39 years old) severed her ties to the Theosophical Society and began to write texts that he claimed were dictated telepathically by a certain "Tibetan," or "D. K. ». She published those texts under the title Human and Solar Initiation. There she made known the existence of the spiritual hierarchy, which Madame Blavatsky had already spread, although not in an orderly way. She later revealed that the Tibetan D.K. was the master Djwal Khul. She wrote using the teacher's name for 30 years, from 1919 until her death in 1949.
Great book for those interested in esotericism, spirituality, and the path of the initiate. The average astrologer probably won't enjoy this book, although they might greatly benefit from it. This is because there seems to be a lack of soul-centeredness in modern astrology, despite the meaningfulness of this approach.
Although I enjoyed Alan Oken's book about Soul-Centered astrology, it was quite superficial compared to the rabbit-hole you fall into with Alice Bailey's books. A warning is that readers may not fully comprehend the entire system of knowledge she is forwarding with this book alone; it is the 3rd part of a 5-part series of books called the Treatise on the Seven Rays.
Therefore, to really understand Esoteric Astrology it would be worth reading Esoteric Psychology Parts 1 & 2, as well as having a fairly strong understanding of conventional western astrology, and a fundamental understanding of the theosophical principles.
For those who are interested in studying esoteric astrology, that is, not the predictive type, but the system that deals with energies coming from outside the planet and the solar system; the type that is not really interested in the personal charts of individuals but rather how groups interact and utilize these incoming energies, this book, and, indeed, all of Alice A. Bailey's works, are worth the time and effort. The mind, studying these materials, expands the brain so that it becomes more useful to the Higher Self, and this utterly changes the life of one who makes this her/his life work.
I don't believe many readers can abstract A.B's works, whereas my consciousness itself had to evolve over the past years in order to hear and see the picture A.B paints for the spiritual systems eternally in motion. We are all One, fragments of a greater whole.
A.B describes beautifully how energies from As above, so below are in transmitting, transmuting, transfiguring, and transforming on a grand scale.
