I use to have all this authors books, her older ones are the best. The newer ones started to seem like a reputation of her older ones. This one was good, and the stepback is beautiful. Alas... Goodreads doesn't allow us to add extra pic's anymore :(
I started reading this before I knew it was a sequel; I usually stop reading when I find that out and check out the first book, but in this case, I got too involved with the story and didn't want to stop reading!
This is a really good book, and you learn some history about the mid-19thc Cuban fight for independence. The story of the secondary couple, Rafe and Marita, is as good (if not better) than the main story of the H and h, Slater and Francesca. There's also a bit of a switch, a lot of the time it's the OW who's up to no good and the OM who's supportive and suffering from unrequited love, but in this case, the OM is a real villain and the OW is a good friend to the H and is also very much in love with him. Meanwhile, there's another man who feels that way about her, and hopes to change her mind. But he's got a secret that may prevent that from ever happening, and one that's causing trouble for the MC.
I won't give anything else away, and just recommend you read this. There's action and adventure, as well as history and romance. You won't be disappointed.
Bobbie 's knowledge of Cuban history is amazing. This book kept me up and glued to each page. Her description of the plantations of that era were very interesting.. I've read Bobbie's books and these about the Cuban history are her best,!
Okay, so I've been on a Bobbi Smith kick ever since I discovered her books are available on Kindle Unlimited. I had never read any of her stuff before, but I've been knocking back the bodice ripper/romance novels like crazy lately and thought I'd take a break from English historicals and try some American historicals. The few I read before this one were pretty good as far as the genre goes, a little flowery when it comes to sexual encounters (I prefer earthier, more straightforward sex scenes) and pretty cheesy at times, but overall decent. But this one was just too much. Too many characters, none of which were particularly likeable, none of which I cared anything about. I found myself often skimming through pages just to get to the end of the book. Though I wouldn't discourage people from her books, I might advise against spending any time on this one.
