A Dalmatian, longing for playmates who are black-and-white like himself, flees home to join a team of penguins in a soccer match against a pack of skunks
Surreal - as one would expect from a bored Dalmatian. Poor thing, inside all day. I love the art, especially the B&W theme (reminds me of the Please, Mr. Panda series). I love that it's not a wordless book, but has many wordless pages. I believe some children's imaginations will be lit ablaze by this, esp. if they're prompted, 'What does your dog dream about? Or your cat? Or a wolf? Or a penguin?'
It was cute, but I wish the story would've been a little longer. I love the pictures in this book. There's a big contrast between black/white and color (especially green). One thing that made me not to sure about this book was that the story is kind of bizarre; the beginning didn't really match the strangeness of the later parts of the book. Like I said, the book was cute, and there were some great ideas put into it, but it was just a bit too uncoordinated for my taste.
A beautifully illustrated book with one of the cutest large dogs that I have seen. You can read this book to your small children to entertain them, but this book is not much of a "learn to read" book, as there is so little text. I have a signed copy from the author!
Dylan's day out is a beautifully illustrated imaginative story. It contains mostly pictures and most of the pages do not have words. The illustrations tell the story, in which a dog was tired of sitting around all day, and dreamed of more exciting experiences. It is fun book in which the strength lies in its illustration.
Oh, my, GOSH! Catalanotto has to be a real Dal owner! Clever (penguins vs. nuns in a soccer game!) and lively, the story documents what really happens when a Dal goes out on his/her own. Great illustrations that mirror real dog poses and body language.
This book wasn't one overly enjoyed. It was just okay and kind of bland to be honest. The artwork however was very nice. I would use this in my classroom as a passtime book.
