The Good: The great story that started in the first volume continues here, and is just as entertaining. The artwork and dialogue are on par with the previous entry in the series.

The Bad: Unfortunately, the makers also made this one a bit more edgy. Two scenes with Barbie-doll-style nudity, as well as a profanity or two, muddled things a bit.

Conclusion: Despite its problems, I enjoyed this second installment; now, let's hope the issues with this one don't foreshadow a downward spiral for this series.

When I first read this series, I probably wasn't the right age. I like it okay but I remember being confused a few times (even though for the most part it's easy to follow) and I only remembered a few of the characters, not that there were many characters in the manga to begin with, but this was one of the first manga series that I read after my parents found out I started developing an interest in manga.

The story is fairly simple considering it's only 7 volumes long. It's about a young girl named Kaguya, who is prophesied to save one of the nine parallel worlds. She tries to discover a way to save all the worlds while also finding her true identity.

We find out about the nine worlds and that Kaguya has the ability to save one world since a collision of the 9 worlds is about to take place. As to why the worlds are colliding, there's no explanation and for some reason, Kaguya can only save one. We meet Gold and Seeu, and we begin to figure out who they are and what their connection is but they really don't have any personalities besides Seeu being cold and emotionless and Gold having no emotions but an impulse to help Kaguya.

The first volume sets up the story. We see Kaguya and her life on Earth. She's an orphan that was adopted into a family. Her character starts off as nice and she doesn't stand out as a character. She doesn't speak out against family or friends, even when they're yelling at her, she's the type who tries to keep the peace but is close to being a 'pushover'. But knowing how she ended up with that family makes it all clear.

We also learn a little bit about other characters. Seeu made this robot to look like Kagami, a boy who died in a war, long ago. And from what little information we got, it seems like it was a war between worlds as we see a few scenes with the characters talk about their distaste of people from other worlds. We also meet Idou, who seems to know Seeu and is also after Kaguya. Now as to why they both are after her, we don't quite know. What's also clever is who there is no 'good' or 'evil' side. Just two men on different sides of a fight that want the same thing.

We meet Shiina in volume 2 and I just love her. She's tough and her interactions with Kaguya when they first meet is hilarious. When Kaguya is banging on the door, the question that Sheena asks is a multiplication question to determine to let her in. Who does that?!?!?! We also learn out the different worlds, or 'Earths'. It's not like there are 9 different planets in a solar system but more like parallel worlds and 9 have been discovered.

We also learn about the living weapons and all exhibition returns to this war that happened. We know who fought in it but we don't know who they fought. Like if they fought against each other or did they join to stop people from rising up and causing chaos. We see a scene with them talking about the prophecy of the destruction of the 9 parallel worlds. And we find out they all split and decide to do something about the destruction of their own worlds. But we don't get a sense of their relationship and how close they were as comrades. They did come from other worlds and did fight together but how and for what purpose, we don't exactly know. Hopefully later volumes will enlighten us.

Nothing really makes the manga stand out except for one character (and even then it's more of a design rather than the character himself) but that will be saved for another volume. This volumes adds a lot more questions with the few answers we are provided. We were given a lot of exposition as to what's going on and the big picture is easy to follow. It's just the tiny details that make things confusing.

THE MAD PRINCE BECKONS ..

Sort of. Seeu makes a minor appearance at the beginning and he gets an appearance when we get some backstory courtesy of Kagami meddling with Lagunahaan's coffin, but he's barely here.

I swear he's a hero in this story at some point.

Kaguya is saved by Bambi, a beautiful girl with silver hair and a penchant for lecturing. She explains to Kaguya that hey welcome to not your planet and this is where some of the translation breaks down because she keeps saying "different worlds" but they're really Parallel Earths I think.

Kaguya also gets to have a short heart to heart with Kagami, who's all sorts of confused but happy to see her and confirms Seeu is the hero we are looking for (also weirdo braid sage Meshe is a good guy).

So we get some backstory, some character connections, indications why Geos (the seventh world) SUCKS and an overview of the current power Dynamics being fought.

AND YET I'M AS CONFUSED AS KAGUYA. Keep it together Lexie you love this series it's not as bad as all that just keep reading

This week I’m trying to finish a series I am pretty sure I started in middle school or high school. I reread the first three volumes in the last two months but I’ve got four more to complete the series.

The third was quite the drop in quality but the forth picked up a little bit so I’m going to try and push through the series.

This is one of the first manga series I’ve read in a while that hasn’t been so amazing that I may decide not to keep it once I finish reading it.

Unlike the first volume, the second volume slows down a little. The explanation for the world's lore is a bit rough and sometimes hard to follow. But you learn about the lore, the goals of the characters, a snippet of their back grounds, ect.

Not much to say for this one.

Love the cover but there was a scene that ruined it for me and I wouldn’t be picking up any more volumes if I had not already purchased them

The story is more consistent than in the first volume, there's a feeling that it's actually going somewhere and that it will be fun along the way. It's still a quick, not very remarkable reading, but getting better.

Planet Ladder is a quirky manga series, it has some really interesting concepts, some great characters, and a good mix of humor and seriousness.

The ending, however, failed for me. It got... weird, for lack of a better word.
