Summer Storm, a woman as tempestuous and unpredictable as a desert thunderstorm, matches wits with Windrider, the warrior chief who vows to tame her, even though she had given her heart to another. Original.
Catherine Hart is one of today's most popular romance authors and has earned many prestigious writing awards since she started her craft. With 16 historical romances and 2 novellas under her belt, Catherine keeps very busy giving romance readers lots of great reading. Many of her books have made their way to bestseller lists then went on to win awards such as the Romantic Times Storyteller of the Year, a Lifetime Achievement Award for Western Romance. Also, she was recently inducted into her high school's Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame, an honor she cherishes. Catherine is donating total profits from one of her novellas to promoting adult literacy and she credits her success to a firm belief in true and lasting love, an overactive imagination, an insatiable thirst for knowledge and an off-the-wall sense of humor. Catherine resides in Ohio, where she was born and raised and she is the mother of 3 grown children, a "Nana" and the adoptive "mama" of a Siamese cat named Sassy and a Pekingese dog named B.J., both of whom have found a place in her historical novels. Ms. Hart has a passion for Ohio State football, Native American crafts and culture, romantic movies and books, travel, "oldies tunes" and her husband of 29 years, her own special hero.
I bought this book during the 80's. I've read a lot of books but for some reason I remember this one vividly. The writing was exceptional! Some may hate how the story line evolved and some may love it, regardless it will stir your emotions. Think Gone with the Wind or Titanic.
Summer Storm had two great loves, her childhood friend, Sly Fox, after his vision quest known as Windrider, whom she had promised to marry and her teenage love, Jeremy whom she worshipped. As their lives all intertwine, she must choose between her Cheyenne people or her white heritage. Summer Storm and Windrider catapulted me into their culture, world, and great love story. Jeremy’s undying love for Summer Storm was everlasting.
Catherine Hart is one phenominal author. Summer Storm was beautifully written. I have only found one author who can do Native American books justice, now I have found another. Such an amazing love story that will live in my heart and soul for eternity.
Absolutely enthralling. I couldnt put the book down. I was completely swept back in time. I felt as though i was there during the most tantilizing parts. I absolutely loved this book and the author. It is a must read.
I have read this book several times. I laughed... I cried... I got mad... and I fell in love with the most beautiful couple... this book will always be number one in my heart....
I have read this many times, as it is the sequel today one of my favorite books. Once I have read Silken Savage I must read this one....Even if it makes me cry.
Rather PG for romance, butchers Native American culture blending different tribes and leaders, and spans 50+ years of history in the 20 years of Summer Storm’s life.
Terrible descriptions/similes/metaphors make this laughable. At one point Windrider affectionately compares Summer Storm to a fine horse - all legs and eyes. Their tongues duel like flaming spears. And no body parts were named in this book (two mentions of his “manhood” and one “secret cove”).
Romance is overshadowed by death - multiple elders and children freezing to death, small pox, massacres, scalpings, tornado, blizzard, bear mauling. And ridiculous names - Sly Fox, Shy Deer, A-Panther-Stalks, Old Crooked Toes, Walks Like Duck, and my favorite a warrior named Slippery Beaver.
This doesn’t try to be comical, but it is. Entertainingly so.
Enjoy. You’re welcome.

A somewhat reluctant 2-stars. Why the reluctance? Well, it wasn't a badly written book, so I can't in all fairness rate it any lower. Just that I was hugely disappointed with this sequel of "Silken Savage". It seemed forced. It dragged in places. The plot-turns were rather disappointing. The 'love' aspect was confusing, to say the least. I couldn't quite relate to the heroine Summer Storm. Nor could I quite swallow the way she fell so easily out of love with Jeremy and into love with Windrider, then again fell into love with Jeremy when husband Windrider died. It all sounds weird in the extreme. And hardly realistic. One just has to ask: Does this woman know her own mind or what? And what kind of shallow love does she offer both men? I really don't know what to make of it, except that I did not enjoy this book at all.
Sadly, many sequels I've read do not come up to par. Many really do sound forced, as though the author has tried too hard to create conflict that didn't come naturally. I have noticed this trend with other good authors as well. I think this is because expectations are raised, particularly if the first book in the series is very good. A reader is left cheated when this happens. Maybe it's best for an author to create a whole new scenario than to flog a dead horse.
I love this book. This is the second book in the Native American series. Book One is Silken Savage. I have read and re-read both books over and over through the years.
A fantastic example of the genre. read this as a teen...and still have the book (tattered and water damaged) many decades later. I wanted to be summer storm!
It took me long time to finish it because i read it on the ride mostly but i enjoyed the story it brought me tears at some points and some smiles also it's full of all kind of feelings that touched me so deep ... I love it .
