An eerie encounter with a ghost girl promises an unusual summer for four friends. The ghost needs the girls' help-the town is about to cut down the historic, but dying, tree she has haunted since her death in a fall seventy years before. The girls dream up a plan to save the tree: they'll have a sockathon-a wacky fundraiser involving a chain of socks. But how can collecting socks raise enough money in time? And what does the mysterious spirit of Eliza Baker really want? Told in four different voices, the novel gracefully weaves together the perspectives of the plucky girls in a funny and touching middle-grade story about friendship and giving to the community.
This was a great book in my opinion because it shares the story of a couple of girls that show their family and friends that they can basically get something acomplished if they want to. They keep impressing the community with their hard work and will to give away their summer vacations to fundraise money to save a tree that they want there because of its history and stories. It would also be good to mention that these girls get to talk to the major of the city even though they are probably still in middle school, if not in elementary. Awesome story and fun to read. Very realistic also.
Finished this book with Victoria. She had to do a project at school on it. It was a cute read. I loved being able to talk with her about the different characters and teach her thru the book.
