My four year old daughter loves the human body. I was looking for some books that separately covered each “system,” but I wasn’t crazy about these. The language felt odd and awkward to me and there was no further depth compared to some of the basic human body books we have read. There are some “experiment” suggestions, which is a good idea, but I wasn’t impressed with the suggested activities.
One night before bed I told Oliver how our digestive system is technically one tube from your mouth to your butt. He thought this was hilarious. So the next time I went to the library I found a book for him about the digestive system -- this one. So now he knows the word anus. I am surprised that rectum wasn't in here. (Rectum, I hardly know 'im). But it was a very good primer and even included bits about the liver, which I had forgotten.
Summary: This book goes into great detail when explaining the digestive system as well as different body parts. It talks about the whole process of eating food all the way to digesting it. It also talks about ways to keep your digestive system healthy and in great shape.
Review: I liked this book because it was very informative. With something like a child's health, it is always important to have informational books around to educate the kids. I especially like the diagrams in the book because I feel that they do a great job of explaining the parts of the body and what is going on in each one.
Possible in class uses: This book can be used in class to educate the children about different body parts that they all have. It can also be used to illustrate how those body parts work and lastly it can be used to talk about how exactly the digestive system works when they eat food every day.
