The informational picture book, "Earth Day' by Trudi Trueit is a book I would definitely recommend to young children. This book is full of knowledge, history, and facts about the Earth. The book teaches children what the environment is, how it used to be treated, and how it has changed. The book teaches children the importance of caring for our planet as well as teaches them new vocabulary words. The illustrations are photos of real children, which might make the reader more interested in participating in what the kids are doing in the photos. It is so important for young children to understand the importance of caring for our Earth because they will be the ones living in it for years and years. Great read, with very important information.
This book starts 50 years ago when the air and water were more polluted and discusses how Senator Gaylord Nelson began Earth Day. It also goes into how Earth Day is now celebrated around the world. The real photographs show children doing different things to help the earth. The pictures show young children, but the text is too complicated for them to read on their own, but it could be a good read aloud.
Earth Day is all about the man who created Earth Day and what exactly it is. It gives tips to the reader on how to keep the earth clean. Teachers can read this book on many different occasions such as during earth week, science unit on pollution, and learning how biographies.
