I feel like I would have read this another time & maybe even liked it, but I'm not really in the mood now & the library book from the Internet Archive...the pages are too dark for my liking

Maybe I had the right idea when I put it down the first time back in August. Not sure why I did, I probably just ran out of time bc you could only borrow the book for an hour. I guess I didn't realize you could renew it? Who knows

Anyway, this book was such a 90s one. Nikki, the main character, was like a bad 90s stereotype, sprouting all these ridiculous stereotypes, which was annoying to hear. They have sex right away, and right afterward, Silver Thorn is like oh, and btw, you're pregnant with my son now! There just wasn't anything making me want to read more, especially with Nikki being so annoying.

I didn't read enough to rate this, but it would probably have been within 2 or 3 stars.

While going through a Listopia on goodreads I came across this one and realized I hadn't marked it as read. I absolutely love this book! It is definitely one of my faves and I could read it over and over again. In fact, I have read it numerous times, flipped through it numerous times.

Catherine Hart can write some really good stories and some really bad stories. This is one of her better books. Unfortunately, she doesn't write anymore at all and in fact, I have no idea where she has gone. Regardless, if you love Native American romances, time travel romances, pregnancies, etc., you will love this book!!!

Definitely dove into Charmed due to a certain challenge and it was an okay time travel book. In it, you will meet Silver and Nikki. Now these two (sort of) had a instant connection. What I mean by sort of was that Silver basically said you are my wife now and we just created a child. Nikki just accepted that with little fight.

As for the romance, it was okay. Definitely the main focus because, ya know, they had a baby but I just couldn't connect with these two. They did have some funny parts but I just wasn't completely invested in the book. I tried real hard to find something likable but I was just waiting for the book to end.

Speaking of that, the ending was definitely predictable and felt way too easy for me. For all the drama, I thought something else was going to happen towards the end. Also, what's with guys not taking no for an answer? In the end, it was just an okay book.

Okay, so confession time: I don't really like time travel historical romances.

And yet, I. keep. trying. them.

The concept of a modern day woman surviving in ye olden days is just irresistible in terms of navigating, especially seeing as how most societies were unjust towards women for most of recorded human history.

At first, this had promise of actually pulling it off, as Nikki actually acted like a modern-day woman, right down to complaining about the age-old inconveniences, being a pro-feminist, being fairly open about her lust, etc. There were a lot of great moments between her and Silver Thorn--even though, as others have been saying, the whole insta-pregnancy thing between them hooking up is kinda fast.

HOWEVER

Despite all that, I think what I objected to the most was just the blasé attitude about the time travel and Silver Thorn's powers. Because, not only does he have them and not only are they pretty much nearly all-powerful and versatile, but those who know or have even heard about Silver Thorn's flowers are just too calm and accepting about them, which for some reason takes me out of the legitimacy of the feeling of this taking place in real life history--instead, it feels more like an alternate
So...yeah, yet another miss, but the characters themselves were fine. In another context, maybe without the whole time travel aspect, this could've been a lovely little romance.

I love this book. I bought this book back when it was released in 1996. Charmed is right! It was charming. It was vibrant with historical details. It was full of character development and romance. It was not as intense as I normally prefer but you can sink into this world almost like you are there. The characters falling in love was beautifully written and I enjoyed the ride the author created.

I wish the author had done more Time Travel romances but I never came across another by her. I recently repurchased this book because I lost my original copy in a move. I have since bought a kindle version so I can reread wherever I am. This is one of my all time favorite stories. Enjoy.

Ok this this is not happening. I tried. At first it was funny, I liked the heroine, Nikki, a plump 30 year old divorcee who's decided to find herself backpacking in the "wilds" of Ohio. I even cracked up at how she just happened to be wearing Nike brand "moccasins" when she meets our intrepid hero Silver Thorn, who then decides to call her "Nekeah" which is supposed to be Shawnee for Goose but don't quote me. Even the dated pop culture idioms were charming in their own way, even if I'm not sure David Niven has held up as the definition of a hottie.

description
But that's all fine and good. I was on board, until we were introduced to our...uh..."hero."

Silver Thorn is one of three magical mystical Native triplets of which he is the only one to have a dumb English name. (Tecumseh gets to be Tecumseh but whatever.) And did I mention the magical mystical woo-woo? Like ok, magical amulets, spirit guides, time travel, that's fine. I can handle that. But insta-impregnation??? She'd known him all of 40 minutes and he's already knocked her up and is making the child "flutter within her womb." And don't get me started on all the ridiculous Jedi telekinesis he's able to do like moving rocks as if he's Rey in The Last Jedi.

I was hoping for something more like Judie Aiken's A Love Beyond Time and this is nowhere near close. Maybe I should've stuck with it. Maybe it would get even wackier and more ridiculous. All I know is that it's making my head hurt and I'm afraid to find out what else this crazy dude is capable of.

“Oh, sure!” she exclaimed, throwing up her hands in defeat. “Silly me! I forgot! I’m dealing with a man who can literally move mountains, who can transport humans and objects through time and space, who can implant his sperm at will and designate the sex of his child—all without breaking a sweat! Flying pigs should be a breeze for you!”

No pigs for me thanks!

From the moment I started it, I couldn't put it down. It's a very interesting take on history involving Native Americans.

I enjoyed this book and will probably read again. I did skip a few pages and found towards the end it seemed to be rushing though the storyline. A good read overall.

Honesty time!

I being of the "don't tell me what my main characters supposed to look like variety" do not like cover models. Like, at all. Ever. In any case.
But this book.
While strolling down the book isles of Le Value Village, i noticed something strange. No, not the bargain battle in home ware or the X-rated coupling happening over by the mumus, but a slight shift on the book shelf. Crouching down to the bottom shelf i thought my eyes were quite simply going wonky.

But, oh no baby.
After further investigation, i picked this bad boy off the shelf and lo behold to my surprise, A HOLO GRAPHIC FRICKIN BOOK.
I actually cant believe how amazing this shizzy is. When you move it back and forth the lady appears and disappears. The Gods smiled down upon my sweet bargain lovin booty today, because while I still hate with a burning fiery infernal passion or Satan's fires Greatly Dislike cover models, this things just too majestic to cover up.

Enough rambling about the cover, what about the story?

well.....it's kind of on my dnf'd for another day shelf at this moment.

I, being the romance reader I be, have fantasized about the whole time traveling to find love kinda thing before. Let's be honest, who hasn't fantasized about that before? I feel like it can be written really well, or wtf are you doing writing such drivel go home your drunk. This book was a strong idk level. It just felt so anticlimactic. There wasn't any build up, or growth into the time traveling, and once she starts to believe shes really gone back in time, her response is just "huh, well I guess I'm here now."

ANDANDAND

Holy PMS batman. This chick jumps from emotions like a bachelor passing out singles at a strip club. In other words, EVERY 3-6 SECONDS. "Hes hot, hes crazy, i hate you, i lust you, don't touch me, touch me more, you're crazy, hold me." Sweet mother of whiplash.
Id love to say that's just her personality, but i honestly cant get a bead on said personality because of how off the walls she is. And being strait up here, she's kind of dumb. For example, she is clearly realizing she's in a different time, but still pays a guy in cash. Mind you, cash that isn't created yet. For a history teacher I sure question those credentials.
Any whats and whatnot's, it's now sitting on the back burner. Just wasn't connecting at all, and i even gave it the good ole' college try, but was just dragging me along too much. Maybe another day my beautiful holographic beauty, but not today.

I read this awhile back. Like years ago. I remember liking it because it was just so weird. I don't read many romance novels, mostly because they're all pretty much the same, very predictable and often (and ironically since they are mostly written by women) incredibly sexist. This had a little of that, you knew the guy and the girl were going to get together and this was the story of how that happened, but there was also time travel and reincarnation--which was absurd and pretty funny--and a story that worked. It's not the best written thing in the world, not even the best written romance novel I've ever read, but it was a lot of fun. The cover was always awful, I thought this even when I first picked it up, but I am a simple creature and it was holographic. It does not really do the story justice.

I just finished this book. It was an enjoyable read, but I do agree w/one of the other reviews, that Nikki was pretty quick in her acceptance of Silver Thorn, and his powers were pretty strong. On the other hand, someone as mesmerizing as Thorn would be easy to become enamored with, and historic fiction can be as imaginative as an author wants it to be. Overall I was never bored, and I would probably read it again. Anyone into Time Travel, and Native American stories would no doubt enjoy this book too. I have no problem recommending it! Would give it 3.5 stars if that were possible.

One of my favorite time travel novels. This one has been on my keeper shelf since I first read it in 1996 -- well, it's been on that shelf except for the multiple times I've read it.
