REVIEW
Score: 2/5
POV: Dual(?)
Heat Level: 🔥🔥🔥
Tropes: Enemies to Lovers; Opposites Attract; Bodice Ripper

Well let me start off with saying this book wasn’t as terrible as 2 stars appears. However - my morals wouldn’t let me give this book any higher than 2 stars due to these reasons:
1. He’s a cheater and she had no problem being the other woman
2. The Author used the N word
3. The author had them get aroused after watching horses mate (just very weird to me)

Those 3 things just stood out to me throughout this story and yeah basically determined this would not be reread for me. However, I would read more by Catherine Hart.

A good read! Interesting characters, sweet and funny story, and a predictable, happy ending. I love when the bad guys/girls get their comeuppance!

I really enjoyed this book. There were aspects which were predictable. You knew the moment Amanda encountered Grant there would be some heated nights and tangled sheets in their future. However, Ms. Hart took us on a wonderfully written adventure.

Amanda is a card sharp who's never had a real home. She wins half the horse farm from Grants younger brother Tad in a poker game. She arrives gaudily dressed and is naturally met with disbelief and disdain. Grant is practically engaged to another woman. Through the course of the book we deal with Grant having to accept that his brother did gamble away his half of the farm to Amanda. Then, there's the true, duplicitous nature of Grants fiancee. Along the way there are some uncanny accidents and mishaps on the horse farm which place Amanda in danger and Grant plays the dashing, if not, willing hero.

Fighting his attraction for Amanda, Grant can't help but appreciate her business acumen. She demands to know the business as she's unwilling to give up the only 'real' home she's ever had an opportunity to have. A grudging respect develops between the two. Amanda's rough edges begin to smooth out and Grant realizes he's not as all knowing as he thought he was.

There are some wonderul interactions and steamy scenes along the way of their journey of discovery and love. By the end of the book you're wishing you could slap Grant on the back of the head and get him to admit his feelings. And vice versa with Amanda. Still, the story was beautifully written. The characters were vivid and believable.

I first read this book in the early 90's and recently re read it. I enjoyed it just as much if not more the 2nd time around.

Well done!

I like strong-willed characters and this book has them!! The female character, Amanda, is a former riverboat gambler who wins the best prize of all--half of a horse farm in KY. The only problem is that the other half belongs to an irrogant man who tries to rule Amanda the same way he does his farm. I loved this story because it was steamy, but had plenty of humor as well.

This is one of my favorite romance novels and I don't really have a reason other than it always puts a smile on my face and that it involves horses. There are a couple of scenes that actually make me laugh out loud which is always enjoyable. :)

A quintessential romance novel set in a lavish, historical setting of Kentucky's blue blood horse racing world. It's hard to find but worth the effort!
