With courage and cunning, Jade Donovan has survived alone in a rugged new land - though her dance hall career has earned her an undeserved reputation as a fallen woman. But now as she travels to Oregon in disreputable company, the stunning Irish songbird's cherished independence is threatened by irresistible desires that beckon her into the arms of a handsome young preacher.

Temptations abound for Matt Richards on a west-going wagon train teeming with shameless soiled doves. For though a man of the cloth, Matt is still a man - and tantalized by the blistering sensuality of a sultry, flame-haired vixen with emerald eyes. She opens his heart, awakening his need with her tender, reckless spirit. And he will risk hellfire itself to taste heaven in Jade's kiss.

A story of the ladies from the brothel who decide to relocate their business to California so they buy a wagon and set off down the Oregon trail. And wouldn't you just know, they're right behind the widower preacher with his wagonload of orphans. I liked this book mainly for the hero's older brother (tho his PTSD could have been handled to better effect) and the stories of each woman from the brothel and the individual orphans from the preacher's wagon.
What makes this book special though is the detail of life and landmarks along the Trail and the time period the book is set in. I have lived in a town that literally straddles the Oregon Trail and I read a lot of history, and as far as I can tell, she got it all right.

This is a very likable story about a wagon train traveling to Oregon Territory. The author has done much research on the topic and it shows.

Jade Donovan is traveling with 5 of her 'hurdy-gurdy' sisters. Although Jade is the musical entertainment and not one of the prostitutes, everyone paints the 6 with the same brush. The wagon train is not pleased to have them along but has assigned the preacher, Matt Richards to keep the girls in line. Matt is going to Oregon to open a home for orphans; he is a widower with several small children.

Although the story was engrossing and moved along well, there were several things that just did not make sense. Allowing Matt to come without a wife and with several small children made no sense. The segments about Fancy (and the Indian warrior) and Skeeter were not realistic. Otherwise, this was a great story.

*Spoilers sweetie*
It was a good book, but I didn't like how Jade just gave up her dreams because a man told her he wanted her to be his wife and a mother instead. It was akin to him saying, "your dreams of being a famous singer are stupid. I'm going to relentlessly badger you until you do what I want. Oh, and how bout I sneak in some religion when you're not looking?" Oddly enough for a book with a preacher as the main character, the sex scenes were pretty steamy and imaginative. I also liked the description of life on the Oregon trail, as it reminded me of the game I used to play! Everything that happened was pretty predictable, but I did enjoy it. However, this book won't stay on my shelf. It's not one I would re-read.

This book was excellent! I didn't realize so much of it would be taking place on the trail, but I think that was what helped to make it interesting. Getting to know Matt and Jade was really cool, but I think I most enjoyed listening to all of the "ladybirds" and seeing each one of them find their own place and life. Watching the orphans also find their places and lives with very satisfying as well. Being privy to the various challenges joys hardships and successes of the trail to Oregon was enlightening. My guess is that the majority of those events could and probably did really happen on wagon trails..it was like going along on an adventure...and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
