Speed Up! is a tried-and-tested programme designed specifically for children aged 8-13, whose handwriting is slow, illegible or lacking in fluency. Whether the problems are associated with a developmental coordination disorder (such as dyspraxia), dyslexia or ADHD, or whether they are the result of poor handwriting habits acquired early on, this book will provide an effective source of help.
Work related book! Recommended by a colleague, I finally got the chance to read it. It is a book to help increase writing (penmanship) fluency. Think that isn't important? Kids are required to write a lot....sentences in Kindergarten, paragraphs/pages in first grade. Fluency of print is expected by end of first grade. Some kids learn cursive in 2nd grade and expected to have it solid from then on. What about those kids who have a hard time knowing top/bottom, left/right? This book takes it back a few steps and nicely creates a program to focus on the movements of cursive writing. We expect so much out of children but don't give them the time or the tools to develop skills. They don't even play outside any more or sort buttons or get bored or write letters or receive letters. Yes technology is advancing and more people have access but we still use writing over 50% of the school day, which I believe is appropriate. Once it is all tech, I am out.
