Torna negli Elefanti la celebre traduzione del "Miles gloriosus" di Plauto. Pasolini dichiarò di aver affrontato il capolavoro plautino "armato della lente deformante dell'artigiano in smania di rifacimento più che della lente dell'analista". E di un geniale rifacimento si tratta, in cui Pasolini, scartati i registri del dialettale e del linguaggio teatrale alto, sceglie la lingua dell'avanspettacolo, l'unica capace di rendere il tono "sanguignamente plebeo" dello scrittore latino.

Titus Maccius Plautus (c. 254 – 184 BC), commonly known as Plautus, was a Roman playwright of the Old Latin period. His comedies are the earliest works in Latin literature to have survived in their entirety. He wrote Palliata comoedia, the genre devised by the innovator of Latin literature, Livius Andronicus. The word Plautine refers to both Plautus's own works and works similar to or influenced by his.

Definitivamente no lo hubiera leído si no fuera para la uni, pero igual me terminó gustando🥰​ aprecio el humor de Plauto (sobre todo después de haber leído a ARISTÓFANES: en esta casa odiamos los chistes sexuales). Aguante el metateatro❤️‍🔥​

If you read it closely, you will find more than a couple of gaping holes in the plot. But you're going to notice that only if you're being overly critical from the first page (forgive me) or not invested enough in the hilarity of the way the events unfold, which I presume shouldn't be the case for many. Blessed be the soul who has Palaestrio on his side.

Surprisingly funny for Roman theatre... which is just Greek theatre but Roman. I think I like it cause Horace doesn’t like Plautus and I really want to oppose Horace cause he, as my thistory teacher said, “sounds like a dick”. Is he dead? Yes. Do I still feel the deep need to spite him cause he’s the worst? Absolutely. This play is ridiculous. Nice.

Una obra que para mí no ha superado el filtro del tiempo. El humor no es el mismo de ahora, no puedes sentirte identificado con los personajes, la trama es floja, presenta incoherencias para el lector actual y el ritmo es lento. Poco puedo sacar de esta lectura, más allá de alguna escena que me ha resultado medianamente divertida.

Although this is really ancient, it is very funny and is useful to anyone studying Molière. I am sure he read Plautus in bed every night!

I am so incredibly impressed with the Roman comedies. Whether Plautus or Menander, these authors knew what was funny. And in looking back on it, we learn that what is truy funny, stands the test of time. Good humor is based on the human condition, and that hasn't changed much over the centuries.

Translator, Erich Segal, does a fantastic job of keeping the meaning and style and rhythm of the lines, as well as the alliteration.

It can be a difficult trap, reading verse, but when one makes the effort to ignore the rhyme and focus on content, the results are well worth the read.

Cóż ci te kobiety, Plautusie, uczyniły, że masz o nich takie złe zdanie? Przyznaj się, kiedyś któraś puściła cię w trąbę i nie możesz tego przeboleć, hmm? A jednocześnie jakbyś jednak je lubił. Niby takie chytre, przebiegłe, kłamliwe, a opisane z sympatią. Nie wiem zresztą, dlaczego uważasz, że są bardziej chytre, przebiegłe itd. od mężczyzn, skoro twoi bohaterowie kombinują i oszukują równie skutecznie jak bohaterki. Ba, to oni wymyślają cały plan!

Zdecydowanie bardziej moja bajka niż ten nieszczęsny Arystofanes. Bardziej niż jego przypomina mi to Moliera. A tytułowy bohater trochę wyglądał mi na daleki pierwowzór Zagłoby.

Wstęp (w wersji z WL) jest posłowiem - poważnie, albo kompletnie go pomińcie, albo czytajcie go PO przeczytaniu samej komedii, bo jego autor na samym początku streszcza dosłownie całą fabułę. Nie róbcie sobie tego. Żołnierz samochwał jest zabawny, ale nie jeśli od początku wie się dokładnie, co się wydarzy...

Jedna rzecz mnie tylko zastanawia: jakim cudem bohaterom udało się wybić ścianę między oboma domami tak, że nikt z domowników nie zorientował się, że dzieje się coś podejrzanego? Z czego były te ściany, z kartonu? Czyżby nasz piękniś z łbem w loczkach któregoś dnia wyszedł z domu razem ze wszystkimi niewolnikami i służącymi? Coś mi tu nie gra.

Lu d’une traite, pièce de comédie assez amusante basée sur le double jeu de l’esclave qui manie la ruse et la manipulation à merveille. De même le personnage du soldat fanfaron est assez drôle dans ses multiples remarques de vantardise.
La pièce est assez longue pour le genre théâtrale (environ 150p) mais ça ne pose pas de soucis, l’histoire est facile à comprendre si on est attentif aux premières pages et je n’ai pas senti de longueur particulière. Simplement les noms des personnages sont assez complexe à appréhender en raison des prénoms d’origine latine (ils se ressemblent tous).
En somme, un bon moyen de faire un pas dans la comédie antique en passant un bon moment devant un livre sans se prendre la tête.

No proszę, jednak miłe zaskoczenie. „Żołnierz samochwał” momentami dał radę mnie rozbawić!

W porównaniu do moich wrażeń z Terencjusza, Plaut to zupełna zmiana — jego postacie są wyraziste i wzbudzają sympatię. Fabuła jest poprowadzona całkiem ciekawie, a żarty i humor sytuacyjny faktycznie bawią (mimo antycznego stylu z przeciągłymi wypowiedziami). Na deskach teatru gra aktorska poniosłaby tę historię bez problemu (i nawet nie byłaby zbyt przestarzała — w końcu to osoby z dołu drabiny społecznej: niewolnicy, służące i hetery przechytrzają bogatego obywatela!)

Wielki hołd należy się tłumaczce, bo zarówno tłumaczenia imion jak i szybki, ostry rym wzmacniały zdecydowanie impakt oryginału. Było wiele cytatów, które aż chciało się wysłać znajomym. Jak na materiał, z którym pracowała, zrobiła fantastyczną robotę.

Dodatkowo: to niesamowite, jak mocno nowożytna sztuka europejska, zwłaszcza polska, stoi na Plaucie i Rzymie w ogóle. Z każdą nową lekturą widzę to wyraźniej. (Basztoburz walked so Papkin could slay)

Faceva furore due millenni or sono, il buon Plauto, con il suo linguaggio scurrile e le sue oscenità. Oggi riempirebbe gli stadi e le piazze, come cambia (poco) il mondo!
