Three best friends--Luby, a successful career girl; Danielle, a beautiful girl with a penchant for bad boys; and Catherine, a fun-loving girl who already has the perfect man, but doesn't realize it--decide it is time to get married and dive into the dating pool, searching for Mr. Right. Original.
Monica Jackson lives on the Land of Oz side of Kansas. She fully embraces diversity (including Wicked Witches, Munchkins, and that goody-two-shoes Glenda, the Good Witch) since she resides on the far edge of the diverse divide too. Monica Jackson’s books, known for quirky humor and attitude, often wander from well-trod plot pathways. She spends far too much time online, and loves bubble baths and avoiding both productive activity and moderation.
I love this book. It was quirky and entertaining. Love Libby's attitude! This is a beach book read. It's fun and not too heavy, despite the supernatual subject matter
Ok, this is going to be a hard one to explain, but this book made me laugh out loud so many times, I have to give it 3 stars just for the enjoyment I got from cracking up and texting bits to my family. I don't think that was the author's intent though, but maybe I'm wrong and she meant this to be funny?
First, as others said, the blurb has almost nothing to do with the book. This is not about 3 friends, but about Luby (the other 2 friends are side characters). It's also not a book about finding Mr. Right, but about the paranormal and coming to terms with the magical elements of her life that she didn't know were there. With a romance thrown in.
The writing itself wasn't great, but the editing was abysmal. There were multiple times that we changed location/scene and there was nothing to indicate that. One paragraph she is falling asleep, and the very next paragraph she's walking into her building so I assumed it was a dream. It took me pages to realize that it was real life, just a different day (I went back and re-read to see if I missed something, but nope!). This lack of transition between scenes happened multiple times in the book.
It's a paranormal romance which I'm not really into, so I won't fault that (other than the fact that the blub didn't say this - I wouldn't have read it if I'd known) but even the mundane situations with her non-magical (and not aware of the magical world) friends were just crazy.
And the sex. Oh boy, the sex. Of course sex with someone who is supernaturally cursed (Maybe? We never find out for sure why it's happening) to be irresistibly attractive to everyone he meets is going to be off the wall, but still. I cracked up at the line where it was the first time *ever* that she wanted to give a guy a blow job. I guess his magical (um, literally?) penis caused her to be into things she never was interested in before.
And consent. Let's talk consent, because there wasn't a lot here. I mean, there was as far as the sex itself, but not some other things.
But despite all that, you just can't take this book seriously. It's a wild ride and a fun read and seriously, I laughed a lot. :D
I really wish I'd skipped over this book. The summary is completely and entirely misleading that it seems it was written for a different book. The story has potential: a better thought out and carried out plot with a more eloquent writing style. Unfortunately, this definitely isn't a story I'd recommend.
My first problem with this book is that the blurb does not match the actual story. The blurb makes it seem as if it's a story about three friends as the main characters, but only one friend is the main character, and the others are secondary characters. Also this book was a paranormal romance, yet there was no mention of that anywhere. Had I known, I would have never picked it up.
The description on the back has basically nothing to do with the Story. Was not expecting a supernatural book and was pretty displeased. Easy read but not something I'd recommend to someone
