'Wise Children' is a fantastic example of modern literature.
Carter uses a mixture of post-modernism and the carnivelesque in this novel to create an exciting read. The theme of legitimacy and illigitimacy features prominantly but the book is also light hearted due to the humour and magical realism used.
Carter constantly mocks patriarchy and Shakespeare throughout the novel reflecting her femininst beliefs.
'Wise Children' never fails to disappoint and if it isn't taboo it isn't in this novel! Frankly shocking at times, Carter tells the story through a first person account of the protagonist's life, Dora Chance. Dora goes on to include the audience in her wacky, taboo, hilarious and tragic life
I recommend this to anyone who has a sense of humour and wants to explore the wacky and just plain unorthodox Chance sisters!
