Motti

Calling to mind the minimalist novels of Jean-Philippe Toussaint, Motti is at once an exercise in simplicity and a self-conscious investigation into storytelling . . .

I feel guilty giving this book 2 stars because there is a very good chance I didn't "get" this book. If found the narrator's asides amusing, but by the end I found I was getting frustrated that most of the book was Motti's fantasy and that nothing really happened. Also, the Laika in the book is not the real Laika. In case that was the reason that you decided to read this book.

I really enjoyed it. It is a self-conscious novel so it is probably not for everyone (hence the comments "nothing much happens").
