Chase Larkspur is a rodeo cowboy who likes a good ride…as long as he’s the one calling the shots. Alex Dawson is a bull rider who tests every limit Chase has ever set. The passion between them burns bright and hot, until Alex grows tired of keeping their relationship a secret—and of being the one who’s always ridden. Alex lays down an ultimatum, and then the rest is up to Chase. Does Chase let the best thing in his life run away to the family ranch, or is he brave enough to chase Alex down?
I am a native Californian who has spent the years since graduating high school bouncing around the world at every opportunity. I am a graduate of Vassar College where—despite often being distracted by British Literature—I received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. I'm an avid reader who spends much of my time engrossed in romance novels...when I'm not being shanghaied by the loud, demanding, often-crazy characters that live in my head. Right now you can find me in Northern California, but who knows where I'll be next? So long as I have my laptop and most discerning critic with me, I'm ready to travel and write from wherever the wind may take me.
Great story about two rodeo cowboys who mean more to each other than one of them is willing to admit. I loved that Alex gave the ultimatum he did, standing up for what he wanted. It took Chase a while to think it through, but when he did come around - oh, boy. The characters were great, very hot together and their reasoning for what they did made sense.
If you like fast, hot reads with great guys who have deep feelings for each other (without being mushy), you will probably like this book.
One of the themes I enjoy is "the one that gets away". Chasing Alex has that sense of theme. Being apart after the nth argument, which Alex gave Chase an ultimatum -- out with their relationship and let Alex on top once in awhile or the relationship is over -- the story opens with Chase coming to Bandera, Texas to get Alex back.
I like both sides of the argument, I think they all have a great basis on it. Alex fears that he is not enough for Chase, since Chase is bi, and seems to always have women on the side. While Chase thinks he will need time to adjust to Alex, because (without Alex's knowing), Alex is Chase's first in almost anything involving relationship with a man. I'm glad they work it out, and they settle with clear-head discussion this time around.
For a 30-pages story, this one is well-written, with two different characters that are likeable and have strong presence. It's easy to root for them, wanting them to be together and learn to communicate their inner emotion. Good read.
Chance is lucky Alex kept him as long as he did. Not only did he not acknowledge Alex in public, but even after they were a couple, he was flirting with women, not even seeing what it did to Alex. When Alex has to go back to the family ranch, it all comes to a head and Alex finally tells Chance how he feels. He believes Chance is not only hiding what they have, but avoiding the fact that he is with a man (never reciprocating on blowjobs or bottoming for Alex). Alex wants a relationship, not to be a convenient outlet. Chance has to find the way to convince Alex this isn't true. I ended up liking Chance, when I really didn't think I would, and Alex was a good character througout.
Reunion stories are some of my favorites; I love the idea of people that were together finally finding love with each other. In this case there was the ultimatum – and the events that led to it – that tore Chase and Alex apart. When they come back together, their reunion is both steamy and emotional.
It’s great to read a short story, just over 30 pages, that manages to pull me in and make me care. But this one definitely does. I was rooting for Chase and Alex to get back together, to understand one another and to give themselves, and each other, a chance.
Chasing Alex is a quick, sexy, eminently satisfying read. Riley Shane has a gift of writing great stories with characters that I love and want to see more of.
A cute story about two cowboys, one who left in a huff and one who 8 months later finally decides to chase him down. I liked that the story made it clear how they got together and what their issue was without being an info dump and that you realize neither party was completely innocent here. They both made mistakes, especially not communicating and hopefully they've learned their lesson.
I loved this story! I enjoyed the characters and always love reunion/not letting that person get away, type of stories, and this fit the bill very nicely. I thought that the conflicts that Chase and Alex were dealing with were well-explained, and I really liked that the story was able to pull me in for being such a short read. Very enjoyable read!
Love a good cowboy story ....their love life is a secret and Alex can't take it anymore and leaves..... as they say "u don't know what you've got till its gone" .Chase goes after him to prove that he is worthy of his love ...
This was pretty good. I liked how the tory opened with Chase going after Alex. The beginning could have draaged had the characters lingered on the maudlin detais of their break up. But because the characters were in action we were able to learn the history from Chase from his inner musings while en route. Alex, obviously miserable, will get the surprise of his life when his former lover literally runs into him on his own ranch...
Enjoyable book with a sexy scene and a sense of closure at the end.
A nice quick glimpse into the lives of two interesting characters. It really didn't bring anything new to the table, but Chasing Alex was still a good read and an entertaining story all in all.
If you like cowboys and smexy short stories, don't miss this.
