Fine, a bit out of date, I didn’t read every last word as it repeats stuff I’d read in other books

Good intro to the overall field. Book goes over some of the basic processes involved in the film scoring industry (including the business side (i.e the players, the equipment, terminology, standards for scoring and formatting), very broadly touching on artistic elements, as well as intro into recording and post-edit procedures.

What the book does NOT do: Go into any real depth into orchestration process (pretty obviously) nor does it go into any real depth into midi-sequencing (:/). This book assumes you already have the score. As Kompanek states in his intro- "This book is not a history of film scoring or a how-to book for creating a film score. Rather, the focus is on the many things you will have to do with your score after it exists, from changing it to please a director to recording it in the studio". So this book provides a solid primer on what one might encounter as a green composer.
