I RECEIVED A DRC FROM THE PUBLISHER VIA EDELWEISS+. THANK YOU.
My Review: Cool little book for very, very young readers, and pre-readers with grandparental help. Accustoms kids to observing, and interpreting their observations, not just staring at things in their worlds. It's got beautiful images of trees, which is always a good thing to expose a child to; it's got drawn overlays to point up the author's intended images to be found when looking at the tree photograph...and because it's an overlay it is a separate experience from just looking at how beautiful the trees are.
This is an absolutely delightful lap-book for your smallest family member. Start at about two or three, it seems to me.
Enjoy the first pages of the book. It's beautiful, it's got a great message all our descendants need to hear, process, and internalize, and it's exactly right for Yule gifting.
A sweet and gentle children’s’ book, whose interactive illustrations are ingeniously presented via a plastic film on top of free photographs. Wannier is also, clearly, a skilled poet, and I think the lyricism of this text will appeal both to children and their parents.
I love how this beautiful book challenges you to find a new perspective, in this case by identifying animal shapes in trees. The combination of animals and trees is a winning one, and I loved uncovering what animals the author had drawn out of each image. I wasn’t very good at identifying them and will have to keep trying. 😅 But still fun! People of all ages can enjoy this book.
My mom has always played “what do you see” and this book was the perfect gift for her! She spent hours going through it with her grandkids and it sparked both discussion and creativity. The format is wonderful and truly allows for discovery before revealing any answers. This book is such a treasure!
'Tree Spirits' is a beautiful picture book which consists of illustrations of animals which are created by nature and are hidden in tree trunks. Doesn't it sound cool? Have you ever seen a tree's trunk in closeup or observed it. This book allows children to take a look at them while developing their creative skills and also makes them think beyond the book. The illustrations provided are so well drawn in such a way that they exactly match the trunk's shape. Each page shows a picture of a real tree trunk and the following page contains the illustration of the animal depicted in the previous tree trunk. This book also has a rhythmic conversation going on where questions are asked which are related to the emotions shown by each of these animals. This was it also helps children to improve their observation and listening skills. This will definitely be a thought-provoking book for kids as it easily attracts them while also making them think beyond it. I especially loved the illustration of a cute elephant on a tree trunk. This would be a perfect book for kids from 3-8 years of age!💚
This is the most heartwarming book. I’m a nature lover, so any children’s book that hits on that tugs at my heartstrings. I love that the author used the real world to inspire such imaginative thoughts. The way that she did this allows for the story to continue past the pages by showing children how to make similar observations on their own whether that be during a walk in the park or at a tree in a roadway median. She shows that beauty and magic can be found everywhere. Not only is the story beautiful, but the publishing and illustration execution are as well.
This is my mom's entrée into the world of children's literature. She is "Safta" now, and has five going on a million grandkids, so she's getting with the program, you might say! We all love it though. We own hundreds of children' books, and our kids do nothing but read, as we haven't gone in on screens yet, but we have yet to see a format like this one. It combines bed-time or any-time reading with creative interactivity in a new and fun way. There are other "flap up" books or "pop out" books, or even pages with holes in them, but this one stands alone with the see-through stenciled pages that flesh out the spirits in the trees and provide fodder for imaginatory ponders. I genuinely love this book, and so do my kids, and best of all, it's a unique addition to the shelf!
“Tree Spirits” by Louise Wannier is a stunningly beautiful storybook with characters formed by nature and revisioned by an artistic eye to show hidden animal designs in tree trunks. The story is rhythmic and challenges the reader to look further into the natural world around them. Each page shows a photograph of a tree and asks the child what form they see in the bark. The following pages use illustrations to overlap a photo showing the author’s animal image. The more you look at the pictures, the easier it becomes to visualize the hidden designs nature has crafted in the tree’s structure. As the reader continues searching for designs in the photographs, the story delves further to evoke the feelings of the child and questions which emotions the animals are feeling in the images they see.
“Tree Spirits” is a wonderfully constructed distraction for parents and their children in a world overstimulated by media and cell phones. I am all for books that ask the reader to unplug and venture outside to discover the gifts hidden in nature. The photographs are bright and visually pleasing. The Illustrations by April Jackson are adorable and creatively displayed for younger children to locate with little instruction. The story length is perfect and will keep even the most challenging little ones entertained as they learn. The octopus hidden within tree roots is my favorite scene. I also like the inclusion of tracing paper for artistic fun once the child discovers tree spirits in their community.
“Tree Spirits” is a creative story to experience and fun to read. It can also be used as a thought-provoking guide and learning opportunity for parents to expand upon. I can think of numerous crafts a parent or teacher could create to complement the lessons learned while reading this book. I can imagine sitting outside with my grandchildren, reading Louise Wannier’s book, and afterward creating adventures with the tree animals we locate in our yard. Our grandkids would enthusiastically give them names and missions that change with the day or weather. This book will do well in the family library, homeschool or elementary classroom, and daycare settings. I can see “Tree Spirits” selling well in gift stores, zoo museums, and children’s specialty stores.

📚Book leads to discovery beyond the pages of the book. Years ago, when a kid showed a perspective that what they saw was not a hat,but infact a boa constrictor digesting an elephant just changed the mind.

A meaningful interactive book takes the reading experience to another level. The reader is no longer exclusively on the receiving end, and they get to participate and have a fun time out of the book. 'Tree Spirits' ticks all the criteria mentioned above and more. The interaction between the book, an inanimate object, and the reader takes a new creative turn with this book. Life in concrete jungles has made humankind lose its touch with nature and all things natural. When was the last time we made a conscious effort to observe nature and interact with it? When was the last time we looked at clouds and played the game of guessing the shape? Daily life has taken away all these little but wholesome pleasures from us. Now, take the cloud shape guessing game and apply it to trees. That is what this book does; it has pictures of different tree trunks that resemble certain animals. The reader gets brownie points on guessing it correctly in the form of two liners that also capture the emotion attached to the animal. This format gets the brain cells working and provides a quick shot of happy hormones for us, couch potatoes. The book helps develop intuition and the ability to see beyond the surface, to search for things that are not easily visible at first glance. Given that the target audience still has a developing brain, which can sponge up anything and everything, the activity in which Tree Spirits gets them involved is enriching and adds value. It is fun, informative, and helps the reader in spending some quality time alone with the book. Praise must go out to the illustrators as well, for doing such an excellent job of capturing the message and presenting it in a way that makes the experience enjoyable.
Mixing imagination with the surrounding world invites to dreams and seeing beyond the obvious.
Creativity and imagination drive this read forward through photographs and rhymed text. The author has taken colorful photographs of unique knots, twists, and marks on trees and encourages readers to view them with a touch of fantasy in mind. The text not only gives hints but exposes what the artist, April Tatiana Jackson, sees—an elephant or a rabbit? The entire photograph, then, appears again, but this time with an outline of the imagined creature in red ink overlaying the tree. It even invites readers to discover their own images, too.
The text fits well to the mid and upper end of the age group and flows smoothly with the rhymes. It drops little hints with a literary atmosphere before exposing the artist's vision. It is well done but could be a bit more concise. But then, I have a feeling that it will be the adults who are more taken by the text than the younger readers, since these will be concentrating on the photos and trying to discover the creature 'hidden' inside.
The photographs are well done and use very unique growths on the trees to simple knots (if these can be considered simple). While some of the creatures are easy to see, others do need the help of the red lines afterwards. But either way, young readers are sure to discover their own images, too...and that is the entire point of this read. It sparks imagination and will have young readers viewing the world around them with different eyes. This book would also work well in classroom, group, or homeschooling settings to introduce a project.
It's a lovely way to exercise creativity and will inspire readers, both young and old. I received a DRC and enjoyed the creative journey quite a bit.

This book "tree spirits" is a children's book and is an amazing work of fiction. The amount of thought they have put to see how far a child's imagination goes.
This book contains different images of trees in different shapes and forms and asks the kids to guess what they look like.
Some of them look like birds, animals and so many other creatures our mother nature has. It lets the children keep guessing and such an adorable book.
I used to imagine different shapes and figures in the clouds with my sister as a kid so i found this book really beautiful and it was nostalgic.
You will absolutely love the images and how they keep you guessing the entire time. This enhances the imagination of a child and lets them connect to nature more.
This book gave me a trip back to my childhood and i would definitely recommend this book to all the parents out there.

📒My review: Tree spirits is an interactive children's book which include pictures of various things such as trees, animals etc. It helps children in using their imagination. It encourages creativity, enhances imagination etc.
📒 For instance if one page has a picture of tree, a child can be asked like " What do you see when you see this picture of a tree". In this way a child will be able to use his imagination and will take you to a ride in his or her world. If the next page consists of an animal, you can ask which animal is this. This will increase intelligence.

“I see a tiny mouse peeking out at me. How do you imagine she is feeling today? I think we are both feeling CURIOUS. What do you say?”
We often get indulge in our daily life that we don’t pay attention to our nearby things. Most of us have forgotten the nature, when was the life we went out in the nature, looked around, touched a tree, or sat in the grass. We’ve lost our inbuilt touch with nature and due to it, we don’t teach our children, the importance of nature.
This is where this books come in the picture and guide our children to really see and get in touch with the nature. Tree Spirits is an interactive book for children from age 4-8. It allows children to ask question and due to its interactive nature, kids can go around and observe the everyday little things in a different way.
This is the right age for our children to get in touch with nature. The thought behind this book is excellent. The graphics are excellent, beautiful pictures of trees and rhyming tone of this book make it enjoyable and creative. It’s a treat for young kids.

This is a wonderful book for parents, grandparents, friends, and family to read with the children in their lives. The book includes four sheets of tracing paper to encourage youngsters to start drawing what they see, and it concludes with a suggestion that they go outside and look at the trees in their community.
Through this story, children's can understand that animals have feelings and emotions too. They also need love and care. Author did a great job to teach childrens in an amazing style. She includes lovely visuals that add to the intrigue and engagement of the story.
I am so impressed with the part of illustrations which makes it superb and attractive and develop a curiosity to read.
An interesting book that takes our habit of seeing things that aren't there and creating a world of fantasy animal encounters. We get photos of basic tree bark and unusual growth patterns, and with a page of brief text we also have an acetate bearing black additions that, when lain over the photo, show that what looked like some coarse wood growth is in fact a little mouse, or timid sparrow, or perhaps a swan and doting cygnet. I guess this can be used as an impetus to explore our own neighbourhood's trees, and thence to use our imagination, but not a full amount seems to have been done here – the text just puts an emotion on to the animals, and provides no narrative or information. There must be a story behind why the octopus is there in our path, or why the elephant is crying. This is fine as far as it goes, but in relying more on good photos of quirks of nature and not enough on an author's imagination, it seems lacking. Three and a half stars.

✍The title of the book TREE SPIRIT gives you vivid idea about the book. That has somewhere truck with the trees. This book is a short book. It is different from all other that I have reviewed. It is a book which is compiled of very fascinating illustrations and the view point towards the illustrations. And pictures in the book is correlated with illustrations. It gives the view point towards the nature. It is a interactive picture book for the children of 3-8 years children. It widens the horizon and the imagination and gives birth to the emotional aspect to their inner feelings and spirit. The cover of the book is sober and gives leisure to the heart. The rabbit drawn on the cover is quite beautiful. Tried to explain the picture of the different trees and tried to relate to the nature. It was good to read this book. It somewhere changed my view towards seeing the world.
One of the most creative children's books I've ever read! It encourages children to be creative in such an intriguing way — a perfect gift for a young child — or grandparent who loves to interact with their grandchild.
This is a great children's book. I've been stockpiling children's books and books I've grown up reading for my future children and this will definitely be a favorite of mine to come. It teaches having a creative spirit and connecting with nature which is something I find very important!
A brilliant spark of creativity, inspiration, and youthful invigoration. A perfect way to bring children, parents, and grandparents together with touches of magic and imagination. Bravo!
Tree spirits have different kinds of trees, and you have to guess what the animal looks like by looking at the tree and reading the clues they give you
