August 15, 2011I couldn't finish. Made it to the twentieth chapter before giving up. It was the 'dear one's, little one's, youngling's,' and all the other pet names that finally had me cut bait.
This is a free read, so I won't mess with its rating. I appreciate the writer's time and effort, but this was not my cup of tea.

I’m liking this series a lot. Everything is working out great, all the characters are great except one.
The thing that really is getting to me in this one is Aurora.
She has such a big stick up her ass. Overall Aurora is just an incredibly annoying character to me. She’s annoying enough that if I had to read full chapters in her point of view or whole chapters about her, I’d stop reading for sure. The good news is that this books swaps point of view in quick sections that read pretty quickly normally. The longer sections tend to be about Tsabrak and Lythas, or having them as the point of view.
If you need specifics on Aurora, here are some; she’s very immature. She is very inconsiderate of others. She’s very rude, often times for no reason at all. She’s that recklessly dumb type. I understand women who are not feminine at all, I’m fine with that, but I don’t want it thrown in my face. It’s almost like Aurora let’s her whole “I’m masculine and strong as men” thing define who she is. That is the core of her. That’s all there is about Aurora, trying to show everyone she is strong and masculine and that she can do whatever she wants. I don’t need that.

The story continues and so does my enjoyment of this ongoing series. Corben is gone and now we learn how Tsabrack finally wins the love of Lythas. We meet Corben and Lythas' children all grown and moving into their own adventures, as well as Charlotte's children, Nicholas and Morgan.
I love the straight forward story. I find it just the right combination of description to get me in the setting and pace to move the story forward without bogging it down.
Each chapter is a mini adventure and moves us towards the final outcome. There are trials and sorrows, but what I like the most is that the chracters do not often run off and cause problems for themselves needlessly. They stick together and work towards a common goal.
I'm not adept at analyzing what I read, I just know what I enjoy and the reasons for it and this is one of the best.
This story, as well as the previous writings, are on my-6-star-favs shelf and I'll be moving on to the next installment in this series, Second Chances.

Despite the blurb, this story is more than about Lythas and Tsabrak. It engulfs a whole slew of characters and their developing relationships and yet you never feel cheated on the details of each. There is a lot of action and more world building but this is definitely a character driven story. There isn't a lot of description of places, it gives just enough for the readers imagination to conjure what they may look like.
A few spelling problems and a few cases of a POV switching in the middle of a scene or sentence but for the length of the story and the skill of telling it, it's not enough to detract from it. I'm looking forward to starting the next, which will be in about five minutes. X)

Follows Fate, the first book in the series. Ignorance is a very terrible thing; combined with fear it is an extremely dangerous cocktail indeed,(Don't we see such combinations with the expected consequences in many nations today?) -so it is for the Nandarians, Lythas' people.

Ok so I thought I would only read Fate but I loved that one so much I decided to read Determination and well, on to the next one, I realy like the characters in this series they grew on me. For a free read, these are so worth the time to read.

I am totally engrossed in this series. I'm just dying to know what happens next. I was so sad when Coren died, but I'm loving the way all the couples have paired up.
