Redemption

Rate this book
In 1983, 16-year-old football star Jeremiah "J" Poindexter was brutally murdered in the sleepy Virginia town of Snow. Some say the Klan did it. Others knew the truth, but they kept their secrets. Sixteen years later, Snow residents begin dying under mysterious circumstances. Sheriff Miles Overton, haunted by J's unsolved murder and determined to do right by his J's mother, Callie, sifts through the old secrets, lies, and betrayals and "J's back." REDEMPTION is a multicultural crime mystery where retribution and redemption are often the same thing, and that sometimes you have to do wrong to make things right.

Very Good Who-dun-it

I like when I'm surprised. I figured maybe one of the characters was involved but was surprised by the breadth of the plot and the unwitting assistance of the sheriff. Quite a good bit of historical fiction as well. Intricate and well done.

Now this was an interesting book. Probably not the type of story I'd usually read but it was thought-provoking. I downloaded it free so thought "why not" ?
It's about a group of teens that were involved with the killing of another 16 years before. Now one by one they themselves are falling victim to "accidents" or suicide. A local cop and reporter spot the link and investigate.
I did think at times the police sheriff wasn't very effective but then it all became clear later in the book. The author put said sheriff's thoughts in italics and I got a little fed up of that too. And what is this about kids taking blankets to school ? Not something I'm familiar with....
I wondered too why the redemption of the title took so long. That was sort of explained but not in full.
I did spot a continuation error regarding a plane crash but no spelling mistakes nor grammatical errors. That is rare in itself.
It was a thought-provoking story, though, and worth a read.

It took me a bit to get into it, but by the 6th chapter I was hooked. I didn't stop reading except to get more food and drinks until I was finished! It was a ride- and a worthwhile ride at that! A really interesting mystery that kept me guessing what would happen in the end. The "romance" is secondary to the main plot, but it isn't too far removed. It gave me a feel of another romance novel I've read recently, but I don't remember its title. Anyway, great job H.M. Mann! Keep up the great work. I look forward to reading another of you books. I have them all downloaded, and when I get another down time- I'll do another random pick and see what I get. I highly recommend this book for people who like mysteries...you'll love the twists and turns!

This story was really well-written. I was looking for a mystery in the kindle books and happened upon this one. I'd never heard of the author but decided to take a chance. The story captured my attention from the very beginning and had me guessing who was responsible for the "things" that were going on. As the reader, I wasn't sure what characters I could trust! LOL!

At the end, it all came together but I must admit, I was a little disappointed in some of the characters' behavior. Two wrongs don't necessarily make a right.

Overall, I would recommend this book.
