True Destiny #3

Howl For Me

Rate this book

For a love that will last through the ages, they must fight an evil older than time.

True Destiny, Book 3

Jeffrey Grimm’s grandfather, Odin, tortured and nearly killed his twin sister. He’s on a mission to return the favor. To get the job done, he needs the world's oldest living laser-hair-removal Fenrisùlfr, the werewolf prophecy has decreed will kill Odin at Ragnarrok.

When he gets to Norway, though, he discovers the wolf can change into a man…a man so sexy that Jeff is blindsided with lust. And, despite his blood ties to Odin, Fen wants him with equal ferocity.

An attraction to the blood kin of his oldest enemy? Fenris figures he must have been caged far too long. Yet as soon as the magical phrase that frees him leaves Jeff’s lips, Fenris has no choice. He is bound to protect Jeff at all costs, even if it means giving up his hatred of the man who betrayed him—and learning to live with the horrors of toothpaste and the Internet.

Odin isn’t through with him, though. And when he gets his hands on Jeff, Fen calls upon everything within him to fulfill the prophecy... even if it means his own death.

This book contains explicit male/male sex, graphic language, a redhead with a temper and the ultimate werewolf. Caution, drooling may be an unfortunate side effect.

Dana Marie Bell wrote her first short story when she was thirteen years old. She attended the High School for Creative and Performing Arts for creative writing, where freedom of expression was the order of the day. When her parents moved out of the city and placed her in a Catholic high school for her senior year she tried desperately to get away, but the nuns held fast, and she graduated with honors despite herself.

Dana has lived primarily in the Northeast (Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware, to be precise), with a brief stint on the US Virgin Island of St. Croix. She lives with her soul-mate and husband Dusty, their two maniacal children, an evil ice-cream stealing cat and a bull terrier that thinks it’s a Pekinese.

Only Dana Marie Bell can write a book has zany humor, plots revolving around Norse Gods, torture, family dynamics & Ragnorok -- seamlessly.

I love this series -- truly.

Warning: Lots of sex -- m/m here & m/f/m in others -- basically it it works -- it's in.

Dana Marie Bell is one of my favorite authors, and this third installment of her True Destiny series does NOT disappoint! Howl for Me is a M/M story and all the great characters from the other two stories are present and integral to the plot, so if you haven’t read Very Much Alive and Eye of the Beholder, be sure to pick those up first and you won’t regret it.

The True Destiny series is based on the Norse Pantheon of gods and goddesses. In this story Fenrisùlfr or Fen (the original werewolf), the son of Logan (Loki the god of Mischief), is rescued by Jeff and his twin sister Jamie, along with Jamie’s fiancé Travis (Tyr the god of Justice). I know it sounds complicated, but I swear if you read the stories and world that Ms. Bell creates in modern-day Philadelphia it make sense!

Jeff is fully human when he meets Fen, but Fen knows right away that Jeff is his mate, he just has to go about proving it to Jeff. To make matters worse and lighten the mood of the story, Fen has been trapped in a cave for centuries and has to learn about this “new” world he has entered.

The love story and Jeff and Fen is quite good and all of the other characters and the greater plot are woven together beautifully. I don’t want to give away too much because the end of this book leaves the reader hanging, but suffice it to say that Jeff and Fen are great together and we hope that ultimately good will triumph over evil no matter how hard Odin tries to flip that script! Basically this story mde me snort-laugh out loud, cry and has me chomping at the bit for the next installment, which in my world are the components of a good story!

Ms. Bell is an author who blurs the lines between gender specific romance seamlessly. Whether she is writing straight, bi, or gay, her stories always draw the reader in. If you aren’t so sure about M/M, starting with this series might be a good start. In fact Very Much Alive was one of the first MMF books I read and now I’m hooked! But if you prefer straight MF paranormal romance, her Halle Puma books are great! I hope you enjoy this book and series as much as I do! Happy reading :)

Heather's Notes
This book was a little hard to get into. I like the story, but I am getting really tired of Odin. Can we please just kill him and moved to a different story arc. I liked Fenris more than Jeff, and if was good seeing all the other characters. I am looking forward to the next book.

Jeff has seen the results of his twin being tortured by their grandfather, twice. So going to free the one who will be responsible for his death is a job he will gladly undertake. Finding his mate…so not in the plans. But will he accept yet another change to his world?

Howl for Me by Dana Marie Bell is third in her True Destiny series. I thoroughly enjoyed Jeff and loved that Ms. Bell decided to give him his happily ever after. Jeff is an alpha but you could miss it around a houseful of Gods. He is smart, loyal and fearless. I enjoyed his sense of humor. He always seems to know just what is needed to break the tension. However, he isn’t quite sure what to think about Fen. Jeff’s past makes it hard for him to trust Fen. But I loved that Ms. Bell showed us Fen’s determination to win him over. Fen may not be used to this century but he will fight for the one fated to be his. I love that Ms. Bell continues to give us unexpected twists and turns. Even as Fen and Jeff find their way. This story is best read in chronological order. It is well written and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I’ve deferred reading this so many times as I know how confusing this world can be.
Didn’t work for me on a few levels.
These are confusing on a good day. Keeping all the characters, both mythical and recent straight, is downright difficult, even when I’m in the mood for this type of read.
Evil Odin keeps escaping. Frustrating.
M/M romance is not my reading pleasure.
So I cannot say I enjoyed this and will probably not continue this series.

Personally, I don't enjoy giving "SPOILERS" as a rule, so I believe the general synopsis above or on the book flap if it's a hard copy should give you all the pertinent information you need. I do include the basics under synopsis though. If you'd like to know my overall thoughts & feelings regarding the book or author, please check the "Personal Opinion" section. Also, if this is a book in a series, under "Characters," you'll most likely find a fu-bo list. While reading, authors tend to introduce us to numerous characters and I find I wonder if they will get their own book, so I decided to include this with my review to be helpful. If the character has a fu-bo already out, it will be listed. I will try not to include "SPOILERS" if there are any. And now to my review:

General Synopsis:
This is the third book in Dana Marie Bell's [ True Destiny ] series, revolving around the Norse myths and legends, and focuses on the romance between Jeff Grimm, the half human son of Fred Grimm (aka Thor) and Fenrisùlfr /Fenris, the ultimate werewolf and son of Logan Saeter (aka Loki), who was imprisoned long ago. This book DOES focus on a relationship between two men.

Characters/Fu-bo:
Val
Magnus - Not Broken
Morgan - Morgan's Fate
Toni
Nik
Skye - Morgan's Fate

Personal Opinion:
Ah, Vicente. I am still waiting for you. . .
Something I neglected to mention in the previous review, I understand Jamie's fascination with watching dramas online and getting sucked in. Now, I don't watch Spanish or dubbed dramas, but I do watch Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese & Chinese dramas. Sometimes, you become glued to the screen & forget anything else is going on around you.

Another thing I failed to comment on (& if you haven't read the books yet and are skimming the reviews, please don't read because although not a spoiler, it gives away info) last time:
In the first book, we get POV's other than the main protagonists, namely Grimm & Val. When I read it, I thought "makes sense to see the POV from the big bad baddies!" Then, in the second book, we are introduced to Toni and see parts of the book from her POV. I know, Toni is not a baddie, but it was interesting to see a POV outside from the "two camps" I guess you could say. The theme continues in this book, sharing the POV from Skye.

I had a Great Aunt once who told me something wise. "There are three sides to every story. Your side, their side & the truth of what really happened." So, seeing the story told from different sides & sometimes from people not connected to the other two sides, I feel it opens it up for the reader even more. Kudos DMB, kudos!

Possible #SPOILER, so warning!

(This review may contain spoilers).

I think this might be my favourite of the True Destiny series so far. I was quickly able to empathise with Fenris and I felt really bad for everything he went through. I've always felt sorry for Fenris and the way he was treated in the mythos.

Odin is a sick, sadistic... several words I shouldn't put in a review viewable by people of all ages. I hate him. I'm really looking forward to when he finally gets his comeuppance. The only complaint I really have is that there is nothing redeeming about Odin - he's completely evil.

There were several things that really made me laugh in this book. I did especially like Jeff's and Fenris' relationship. It was really cute that Fenris was so confused about modern-day slang. (The killing Odin's ass bit really made me laugh).

I particularly liked Odin in this book as well. The reunion between him and his son was really emotional. And then the whole family thing was something else that made me laugh - Fenris calling Jordan 'Mom'; Jeff calling Kir 'Uncle Kir'. The popcorn thing was more amusing than it should have been as well.

What happened to Thor and then to Jeff was awful. The interpretation of the prophecy was pretty interesting - and the asides while they tried to figure out what it meant were also amusing.

The only other complaint I have now is that there's only one book left for me to read so far. And I'm still not sure how Jordan has a different father to Jeff and Jamie.

True Destiny # 3

I found Jeff's character interesting in the previous books and couldn't wait for his story, especially after i read how he meets his "mate"

The author has used the greek theme to its extreme limit,it was so bad that i had to skim some pages to get to the good part.
description

I lost my patience a couple of times. The parts where the plot was to "catch that bastard Odin before he escapes" annoyed me. Yeah, i get it he is bad and evil, but still, to have the bad guy get caught and then ,escape every freaking time was so not cool.

description

I couldn't even feel sorry for the good guys.

Basically not much happened, we could even wrap Jeff and Fen's mating in a couple of pages. Coming to the romance, i didn't find any. don't take me wrong, i love all the alpha romances but this was boring.

So anyone who knows me knows I'm a BIG Dana Marie Bell fan and that I LOVE all her books. Having said that there was just something about this book that I felt didn't live up to Bell's usual standards.

This series is very confusing if you don't pay attention and can't keep track of all the double names and God races, but it's still very creative and exciting. I think my problem with this one was that I didn't connect or feel the passion between Fen and Jeff... maybe m/m is just not my genre or maybe I was just in the wrong frame of mind but I didn't feel the usual Bell passion and excitement.

Despite that the basic storyline is intriguing and I will definitely be reading the next one.

This book may not be for everyone but I loved it! It's hilarious to see them trying to teach Fenris all about the world now! Things that we completely take for granted and he had to learn so it was awesome the way Dana Marie Bell incorporated it into the story! It is also so cool to see how the prophesy plays out in the story and you cna't help but root for them to beat Odin.

I give this 5 out of 5 stars!

I should know better! Dana got me again, I had to buy the rest of the series. I loved Howl for Me. Really neat twist on Norse mythology. I will admit I had a little trouble in the beginning following the list of characters without a play book. I think It would probably have been better if I had read the series in order.
But, Howl for Me contains Dana Marie's trademark humor, strong characters and wonderfully complicated plot.

The series continues with a good installment.

Jeffrey is determined to be part of the team to take down Odin, in revenge for his sister. He frees the great wolf Fenris, who thinks Jeff's decided to be his mate, while Jeff thinks no such thing - not that he doesn't think the man Fen turns into isn't crazy sexy.

Even though I had read the others I still kept getting confused with the names of gods both current and in the past. I also got confused with the previous relationships and would recommend that the books be read in order at the same time to hopefully to keep on track with the story.

Don't read this book if you haven't read the previous two because it is really hard to understand. There are tons of characters and most of them have two names and a lot of history so you better have a good memory or read the other two. None the less it is an enjoyable book.

So angry that Oliver Grimm is not dead yet and I haven't been able to figure out how to kill him. I stated his book first then had to stop to read the first two in the series. Hopefully, there are other books to accompany this series.

A great addition to the series, it was surprisingly good as I was unsure whether the M/M would detract from the story because I'm not a huge fan of M/M love scenes. However Dana does it again with a great plot, lovable characters and an interesting spin on old myths.
