An Act of Woman Power

Rate this book
This is an invaluable book for every man and woman who is ready to understand the origin of their essence; to go beyond the threshold of our self-imposed limitations and begin working on a true and balanced level of attunement with our potential power. An Act of Woman Power goes beyond the normal "how-to" or "self-help" books because the ultimate outcome of the step-by-step guidance is an awakening of all the senses, the rising of potential energy, and a deep merging and connection with our greatest support Mother Earth.

I bought this book at a cheap price from my local metaphysical shop. I acknowledge that it was published in the 80s and these were much different times; however, while the information is understandably outdated and somewhat problematic, it's also poorly written. On the first two pages of the introduction, I already came across two typos. Kisma uses a lot of sentence fragments throughout her writing, and not in a stylized way. I got really bored reading her accounts of rituals she performed with other women. Other than that, I disagree with her views on feminine power. She held an extremely binary view of women versus men, and spoke poorly about women who compete with men in places like the workforce, implying it's not their natural calling. She also had some strange views about altering cycles. Another interesting thing is how she said this book was for men as well. Not even women would benefit from this book, I think. I would not recommend this book to anyone, but it was at least a quick read.

This book annoys me greatly. (Especially Ms. Stepanich's belief that one should menstruate at the new moon and ovulate at the full moon. If you are not already doing this naturally, she helpfully includes directions on how to screw up your body's internal rhythm enough to force this to occur.) I found it very worthwhile reading, if only because it forced me to clarify my own ideas because I disagreed with pretty much everything she said.
