A reckless warrior, Kieran Broderick was half-Irish, yet bound to fight for the English crown. So when King Henry decreed that he take an Irish wife to quell rebellion there, he had little choice. Newly dubbed the earl of Kildare, Kieran travels to Langmore Castle, seat of the lawless O'Shea family, to choose a bride. When he picks Maeve, a fetching lass who seems sweetly submissive, he soon learns she's a fiery, clever woman. When she refuses to allow him into her bed or her heart, he finds himself fighting the most daunting battle of his life. But Kieran will never give up. He's determined to conquer his rebellious beauty-body and soul. Contains mature themes.
Kieran is half-Irish, half-English and is forced to marry an O’Shea sister, whose family is involved in the Irish rebellion against the English. He’s a warrior, a ladies man and hates Ireland. Maeve, the chosen one, is pretty, quiet and hates war. They start their marriage with her hating him and he expecting to leave her as soon as they conceive a babe. The romance between them develops quite well. Kieran is an adorable rouge, tormented for his parents sins and falls for Maeve very easily. Mave on the other hand, resist Kieran, although she finds him irresistible. I think that for being always described as a sensible, reasonable woman, she is too stubborn and narrow minded. She shows too many anger fits as well.
This is the third and last book in the series and it’s nothing to remember. The Hs are OK, but the h are not. I disliked Gwenyth most, I could never find Maeve appealing and I think that Avreril is ok. I prefer Julie Johnstone’s or Margaret Mallory’s h and Hs and stories. And one of the reasons I listened the audible version was because of the narrative of Tim Campbell who usually narrates Johnston’s books. Even his work seems below his usual standard.
I enjoy Shayla Blacks books typically. This book however had the heroine be a Bitch way way way too long. She was totally unreasonable time and time again. She’d realize her error, sort of apologize then moments late be the same old bitty she was previously. Why apologize? You are always going to be short sided. This could have been a good book if the entire thing wasn’t a yo-yo of her hatred. They presented her as the logical, reasonable one at the beginning of the book only to prove she was self centered and overly emotional the entire rest of the book. 2 stars but probably even less if I’m honest. 2 stars because of the author and not because of the story line.
Ok. Last one in the series... Phew! I made it... I don't know why I felt compelled to do it after not really super loving the first two in the series (I'm going to blame my Tim Campbell crush), but I really did have to find out what happened with Kieran. Ah! You get it though right? Not really wanting to finish the series, but doing it anyway?
Ok so, Kieran, the smirking, fun-loving, warrior with a sex addiction -- is half-Irish and half-English, raised English and because of his half-ness he is ordered by the English King to marry an Irish woman (to keep the peace) which he reallllly doesn't want to do because he'd much rather be warrior-ing it up, fighting battles in Spain or where ever the good fighting is happening, and having sex with the abundance of ladies that fall on his hotness after the fighting.
Mauve, the beautiful Irish heroine *HATES* all things English because she's an Irish rebel (hence the title) so when Kieran chooses to marry her, she is *pisssssed*.
Once again, there's more of the endless, repetitive, intractable reasons why they both believe they can't-ever, won't-ever, will-never love each other and, just as before, a few true words said would clear it all up. There's the looming secrets, that when revealed, at the worst possible moment, will make things way, way worse... and then the loving each other with no real reason for that hate to turn to love...
So, same drill as the first two books. *Sigh.*
Not that I was expecting anything really that different for this one -- considering how similar the first two books were in the repetitiveness... BUT, I did like Kieran -- though sadly, not super keen on Mauve, who was full of so much hate for Kieran, he could do no right and the things he did wrong were just like THE WORST for her, and then despite how much *HAAAAATE* she had for him, her body was soooo drawn to him that she would succumb to his kisses (and more) before her brain could remember how much she *HATED* him... Hard to suspend my disbelief for that level of whiplashing.
Anyway, now it's done. I liked this one better than the others, by a wee bit. So I'll say it's a 2.5 for me.
The third of the series and I’m left feeling underwhelmed, another male lead character who denies his true feelings until the end of the book. Also another character who assumes his parents past relationship would be the same as his, is unoriginal when that’s been the story for all 3 books. Regardless of all that if your just seeking a simple love story you would probably enjoy it.
Great book. Definitely enjoyed the story of Kieran and Maeve. Kieran being half-Irish is instructed by the king to go to Ireland, wed, impregnate his wife and bring the baby to England to be reared. Maeve wants Ireland free from the grasp of England but also want little to no blood shed. Great book.
