The light was dim but she could see his profile. “You’re not wearing a mask.” She reached out without thinking, but he grabbed her hand, shaking his head, turning away. FROM NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING & AWARD WINNING AUTHOR SELENA KITT♛ MODERN WICKED FAIRY TALES ♛Do you love fairy tales? Then don't miss these happily ever afters! In this modern retelling of a fairy tale classic, former beauty queen Jolee Mercier finds herself in big trouble, locked in the trunk of her husband’s BMW on her way to a remote location in the woods of northern Michigan where she’s going to be killed. Her crime? Knowing too much. An anonymous letter arrived addressed in her name with proof that her husband, Carlos, a state logging and mining mogul, had been the one responsible for her father’s death years earlier, killed for supporting the unions at a local logging camp. When a terrible accident ends her husband’s plan to kill her, Jolee wakes up alone in a cabin in the middle of the woods, rescued by a masked man they call “the beast,” with a husband who wants her dead, and miles of state forest between her and civilization. The COMPLETE Modern Wicked Fairy Tales Series! amazon.com/dp/B006S9MDAC Jolee could never stay out of trouble for long and being locked in the trunk of Carlos’s black BMW was no exception to that particular rule of her life. She’d given up trying to kick the side of the car to make noise—luxury car makers practically sound-proofed their trunks. Who knew? She wondered if engineers considered scenarios like this one—after all, any rich husband might have to enlist his hit men tie up and toss his troublesome wife into the trunk for easy disposal, right? Besides, her feet were secured with zip ties, as were her hands, which stretched painfully behind her back. They didn’t use duct tape—too easy to wiggle out of—except for the pieces over her mouth. And even those weren’t just slapped on—they’d used the roll to wrap the silver stuff around and around her mouth and jaw in layers. Carlos’s guys knew exactly what they were doing. Of course they did. It was their job. There was just no way out of this bit of trouble. That realization finally hit her in the darkness, the car’s wheels crunching gravel a long time now, off the highway, she surmised, the suspension bouncing her violently up and down. This was going to be the last batch of trouble she ever got herself into in the whole expanse of a life that seemed suddenly very short. She’d been so focused on escaping or finding a way out since Carlos’s goons had grabbed her out back—zip-tied and duct taped before she could even raise the snow shovel she’d been using—that this final realization hit with such terrifying force Jolee actually wet herself, urine staining the crotch of her jeans with spreading navy blue darkness. She was going to die.

Spoiler Ahead This was a short quick read erotic read about the fairytale Beauty and the Beast that was a pretty good read. Jolee Mercier finds herself locked in the trunk of her husband’s car on her way to a location in the woods where she is going to be killed, because she knows too much her husband killed her father. When they have an accident she wakes up in a cabin with a man they call the Beast. Silas who though he is physically disfigured he was also kind and loving to Jolee. I didn't like her husband Carlos he was a real as*whole. The sex scenes in this book was hot which is one of the things that I like about reading Ms. Kitt's books they are always hot. This was a well written book with no errors in grammar or spelling. Although I don't read a lot of fairytale type books I am looking forward to reading more books in this series.
What just happened here? Ms. Kitt who is my go to author for a sensual smexy hawt sex session is writing a bit more dark material. Added to this, it's a fairy tale retold kind of theme. This is not at all what I was expecting. The ending did make me do a little happy dance. The sex in here was so-so. I enjoyed the plot better.
This was a modern day retelling of Beauty and the Beast. It starts with Jolee, being duct taped and zip stripped in the trunk of a car. While being escorted to her own murder, there is an accident. Silas, the beast of the story, comes to her rescue.

Silas is scarred and very self conscious of his appearance. He becomes her savior and she is his redemption in life. That being said, the love that develops between Jolee and Silas is very believable. The author took time and care in developing it. Though the love scenes were pretty hot, I would classify this more as romantica than erotica. This is a great short story that can be read in a few hours. The beginning of the story was a little choppy and poorly edited, but seamed to improve as the story developed ( or I just got used to it).
A short but fairly sweet story. I liked that the "beast" was fighting to protect the environment - I do have a thing for an eco warrior. I also liked that when he refused to remove his Phantom of the Opera-esque hunting mask, the heroine knitted him softer ones in every colour. Adorable. The idea of a rose growing from the ashes and remains of a lost loved one is rather beautiful too. The only thing I really didn't like was the sex scenes. Taste varies immensely as far as sex scenes go, but I personally found them somewhat nauseating. Still a decent little freebie worth a look through.
I absolutely LOVE the story of Beauty and the Beast! It’s my all-time favorite fairy tale and love story so I’m always quick to pick up any book with this plot. With that said, I was uber excited when I came across A Modern Wicked Fairy Tale: Beauty by Selena Kitt.
Jolee finds out that her husband Carlos was involved in the death of her father and confronts him about it. Instead of giving Jolee a heartfelt apology and a dozen red roses, instead, Carlos orders his men to take Jolee into the woods and kill her. On the way to carry out the task, the trio are involved in a car accident that leaves the thugs dead and Jolee seriously wounded.
Enter Silas. Silas has been living in the woods alone for years after a fire leaves him disfigured…and a widower. While hunting in the woods, Silas comes across Jolee unconscious and bleeding. He decides to take her to his home and nurse her back to health. When Jolee finally awakens, she soon discovers that she and Silas share a connection that threatens to destroy them both.
I really enjoyed the story of Jolee and Silas. I did feel, however, that Jolee’s husband Carlos was more of a beast in nature than Silas. Silas was kind and caring – you couldn’t help but fall in love with the way he looked after Jolee and tended to her every need while she recovered. Because he continues to feel guilt for failing to protect his wife, Silas initially is afraid of allowing himself to get close to Jolee. I felt that the face mask that he constantly wore while in Jolee’s presence was used for more than just hiding his disfigurement from her. I felt it was symbolic of an emotional wall that he kept erected between them. What a joy it was when that wall came down!
A Modern Wicked Fairy Tale: Beauty contained some VERY hot scenes . Selena Kitt can indeed put together steamy and erotic love scenes! However, I found myself more intrigued by the way these two characters slowly grew to trust and eventually love one another more than by just their physical interactions.
Although I wouldn’t place it in my top favorites of Beauty and the Beast re-tellings, A Modern Wicked Fairy Tale: Beauty is an enjoyable read that will not disappoint. (Originally Reviewed for BlackRaven's Reviews)
An up to date retelling of the traditional Beauty alias Joley and the Beast alias Silas...yet Silas has damaged appearance, but don't judge this book by its cover as he has a beautiful nature, is caring and loving. It is Joley's husband the handsome Carlos who couldn't be more evil and ugly on the inside.
This is very different to many of Selena Kitt's stories I've read so far, it has plot and tension, plenty of tension, I wanted to keep reading just to see that she had kept to a traditional HEA/HFN and wasn't disappointed. There was a scene that was touching and a tear came to my eyes over Isabelle's roses. The sex when it eventually came was lusty, loving and quite vanilla. I loved the plotted demise of the baddy...justice prevailed.
I thought this was good 3.5 star and rounded up to just 4 stars. Decent standard of English and edited. This story can be found as a stand alone or part of Selena's compilations too...Modern Wicked Fairy Tales: Volume one.
Well! That was THE tamest Selena Kitt book I have EVER read!!! I had to recheck the author at the end of the story to make sure she was actually the author! A quick story about a woman who is rescued after her husband tries to have her killed. They predictably fall in love and the ending is 1000% guessable too. I did not feel the connection between the hero and heroine at the start and there was no sexual tension at all... that surprised me a lot. As did the AMOUNT of storyline versus the quantity of sex! Definitely not what I expected at all. So, for a predictable, tiny spark novella, I say 2 stars. It WAS OK.
I really liked this book. Ms. Kitt is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. I assume this is imagined to be a modern retelling of Beauty and the Beast. I see some similarities but would not recommend it based on that criteria. What I would recommend it for is someone looking for a lovely tale of romance (in the form of wounded hero rescues damsel in distress and learns to love again) with a few hot and steamy sex scenes. This was a complete story that gave you not only a great beginning, middle, but that so often missed great ending..
Interesting & original interpretation of 'Beauty and the beast' fairy-tale. Sex scenes seemed forced and unnecessary to the whole story and that's why it gets a low rating.
It started with Jolee being duct taped and was on her way to getting killed when an the car hit an elk and crashed. The elk was actually hunted by Silas. The brother of Jolee’s husband, Carlos.
The story was quite interesting and not what I actually had in mind. Jolee and Silas were both likable characters. The story ended with a HEA and would recommend it to everyone.
I enjoyed reading this book. The relationship between Silas and Jolee was beautiful. I'm pleased I discovered this writer, as I want to read more of her work.
OK, so this is a twist on the usual Beauty and the Beast theme: There is Jolee, the traditional Beauty, and Silas, who though he is physically disfigured, is a beautiful person and doesn’t need to be redeemed from any bad personality traits. He is also a Beauty and definitely not a Beast. No the real Beast of the story is Carlos, Jolee’s husband. He is bad. He is very, very bad. And he is dangerous.
I really enjoyed this novella. The love story was sweet and believable (it took place over the course of a winter and part of the spring), there was no BIG MISUNDERSTANDING whatsoever (unless you want to go into the story before the book where Jolene thought her husband-to-be was a nice guy).
And the end….Ahhhh
This is not a spoiler, unless you have been living in a yurt in Outer Mongolia for the past 40 years:
The villain gets what’s coming to him. He gets it good. I haven’t relished payback this much since Dorothy threw the pail of water all over the Wicked Witch of the West (God, I hope I don’t need therapy because I enjoyed this scene so much. It was just so…appropriate).
This one seemed to take a little bit longer to get to the good stuff!
Jolee finds herself locked in her husbands trunk. She knows she's being driven off to her death by her husbands goons. She's tried to escape but she's tied up and can't find a way out. That is, until there was an accident. While hunting "The Beast" happens to see the accident unfold. The two passengers are DOA, but he notices the trunk is open and a woman has been thrown from the wreckage.
Silas, "The Beast" carries her to his home and when she wakes she has no recollection of what happened or who she is. She is deathly afraid of the man in the mask who keeps checking in on her. Silas, refuses to remove his mask throughout the entire story. It got a little irritating for me.
A few things happened that confused me a little but the story progressed well. A little slow at first but it picks up and goes gangbusters from there.
I enjoyed this well enough. Fairly good short story that retells a classic.
I would like to add that the narrator reading this one was clear and I enjoyed her reading style.
Jolee has been taken out to land her husband owns to be killed by his henchmen. She is able to escape from the car but because of an accident she may die as she lies bleeding in the snow. She is found by Silas, a loner who lives in the forest. He wears a ski mask because he does not want people to see his scars from a fire. Little by little Jolee worms her way into Silas' heart. Can he trust her not to cringe in fear when he reveals his scar? Will Jolee be safe from her husband in the forest? A retelling of Beauty and the Beast in modern times. I like Silas and Jolee. I also like how the relationship between them grows--slowly and strong. This is a departure from Selena Kitt's Baumgartner series. There is less sex and more development of the characters which I liked. I rooted for Silas and Jolee when it looked like they might not make it but they find the courage to go on with their lives. Good beach read!
About a week ago (Oct 9th 2015) I found “Modern Wicked Fairy Tales: Complete Collection “ from Selena Kitt as a Freebie on Amazon. I have 2 children and I still like to read or watch fairy tales with my children. I was curious about this bundle with a naughty version of them.
1 – Beauty
Beauty and the Beast is one of my favourite fairy tales!
In this version Jolee is supposed to be killed by her husband’s men. They get a car accident and Silas finds her and takes care of her. Silas has lost his wife several years ago and he himself was badly burned while escaping his burning house. He doesn’t want to get emotionally invested again but the beautiful woman in his care makes that very difficult. And then there is still the husband to deal with…
I have read some books from Selena Kitt before and most were just sex. I liked the retelling from this one. And it even takes some time before they sleep together or even kiss. But when they do …
3.5 stars. Okay, call me crazy, but this one I liked even more than the Rapunzel story, which seems to be everyone's favorite of the series. Yes, the Rapunzel book was sweeter and more touching because of the cancer survivor spin, but I liked the darker feel of Beauty. There was something about the female lead being trapped out in a cabin in the woods with a disfigured hero that made for a good story. Neither one of them could venture far, for fear of the hero's evil brother finding them. Why were they in hiding? Well, you just have to read the story to find out.
This series is on the tamer side when comparing it to other Kitt books. There are sex scenes, but only a couple. I'd almost say this is more like a suspense romance with a steamier side. Definitely a good pick for those who prefer erotica lite.
Another interesting take on a fairy tale. And this one was just as good as the others. It didn't make me as emotional as Rapunzel, but it was still a great story. Carlos is a bad, bad man! Amazing how two people can come from the same people and be raised in essentially the same way and turn out so vastly different. Good thing Silas retained everything that made him so different, even after his tragedy. And Jolee was so very patient with him. I'd have gone nuts with the mask after about a week (if even that long). There wasn't a whole lot of steaminess in this one, but what was there was hot as usual. Looking forward to the next one (if there are more coming)!
This was a good story. Jolee is married to this crime boss named Carlos and finds out a little too much. Carlos is going to have her killed but she escapes with the help of a masked man.
The masked man is Silas, Carlos' brother. Carlos killed Silas' wife and left Silas to burn hence why he wears the mask (his face is proof of the fire :(.
Well while Silas is keeping Jolee hidden...they fall in love. She loves him even though she has never seen his face. He doesn't believe anyone can love the distant scarred monster that he has become.
But it is a fairy tale, so they end up happily ever after with some twists along the way.
Once again---I LOVED this book! Each installment of the Wicked Fairy Tales is amazing!
I could go on and on all day. Seriously.
If you're like most of us who grew up thining about Happily Ever afters being the end of it....think again. I LOVE the spin Selena Kitt has put on our most famous fairytales. Much more exciting than any dusty old story. And believe me--not one page of these Wicked fairytales will ever collect dust. You will find yourself in the page turning ride of your life <3
This story kind of started off not quite clear and I wasnt sure how to take the characters because it took awhile for the characters to be built into one another. I wouldnt compare to beauty and the beast as it was suppose to reflect a modern tale. I like to think of it as an abused wife in distressed saved by her scarred beast. once this short but long story line was built i believe the compassion of the 2 wounded characters grew into a wonderful combination. Not Selena's usual but I liked it.
If you have read or seen Disney's "Beauty and the Beast", then you have only the basics of what this story has to offer. Selena Kitt artfully turns this classic story into an engrossing page turner that will have you weep for the protagonist and cheer and its climax. Oh, and the sex scenes...well, just make sure you are in a cool, well ventilated area.
My first jump into retold fairy tales, I really liked this. I haven't been a huge fan of other Selena Kitt books, but this one resonated with me more than her others.
I really liked how you could easily relate this story back to the fairy tale (Beauty and the Beast) and the ending was pretty awesome too.
This wasn't what I expected, and that's not a bad thing. I was really engrossed with the suspense and I liked the love story between Jolee and Silas. They're the modern day Beauty and the Beast, without the bitter character of the beast. The two of them are really good together and I liked the setting too.
I really liked the premise behind this retelling, but it felt like it was just... missing something.
I think in the end it was the main character who kind of killed it for me. She was so passive and I had a hard time figuring out what was supposed to be attractive about her. She was just sort of boring and unfortunate. :/
Jolee is married to the evil Carlos. Carlos sends his men to kill Jolee but an accident brings Silas to her rescue. Loosely based on the fairy tale Beauty and the Beast. It was short and sweet and I did enjoy it.
I really enjoyed this modern twist of Beauty and the Beast. It hadn't been what I had been expecting at all. The story was written well, but lacked the steamy hot sex scenes that would have really amped up the story. Other than that it was an enjoyable read.
I don't really know what to make of this book. It was interesting like a rainy Sunday afternoon quick read. I enjoyed the characters and pace of the book.
