Dash made bad decisions in the past, ones that he paid for behind bars. He’s left his old life behind, but the memories linger. He finds a passion in food and sells his smoked meats and sausages at the Heartcraft Market.
Evan loves his job as a sonographer, but sometimes the weight of his work wears on him. He surrounds himself with flowers and pretty things that remind him of the beauty in life.
Done with dating apps, Evan hopes to find someone in real life. When the intriguing tattooed man at the market catches his eye, could this be the “meat” cute the vegetarian was hoping for?
Dash is drawn to the crop top-wearing cutie that frequents his booth, but can Evan accept his past?

Meats & Memories is book two in the Heartcraft Market series by Duckie Mack. I fell in love with both this author and this series when I read the first book, Pies & Promises and have really been looking forward to reading this one, Dash’s book. But I was not prepared for the wonderfulness of this book. These two were beyond adorable together. You could say this was an opposites attract romance. One tatted up, black wearing man and one who enjoys frilly things, crop tops, knee socks and occasional glitter. But together, these two just fit!
Dash Horvat is twenty six years old. Dash made some mistakes when he was in his teens and he paid the price by spending time in prison. Since he’s gotten out, he has slowly built a life for himself. He has painstakingly developed his own recipes and sells his cured and smoked meats twice monthly at the Heartcraft Market. His booth sits right next to Jason’s Pie booth. Dash is proud of what he’s accomplished so far but he’s still alone. He’s still lonely.
Evan Aguerra is twenty nine years old. Evan is a sonographer at South Coast Regional Hospital and shares an apartment with his best friend, Starla. Evan has tried dating apps with terrible luck. Even though he loves his job and his best friend, he still dreams of finding someone to love. It was purely by chance that he got off work early enough and decided to visit the market. That he was walking down the row of food booths and saw Dash. Their first meeting was so cute. It was obvious how taken they both were.
This is where the swoons really get going. These two!!! And the more I got to know them, the more I loved them. Dash paid for his mistakes. But in a way, he was still paying. Both with the memories he carried and with the ink he wore. But Evan only saw the man he’d become. A strong, talented, beautiful man. And Dash made Evan feel beautiful and accepted too.
I loved everything about this book from start to finish. Books like this is why I read. Stories that make my heart happy. Now I’m even more excited to read the third book, Yarn & Yearnings. We briefly met Collin at the market. He is a big, burly, Harley riding man who loves to crochet and sell his creations.
“Evan was the sunshine that pushed the shadows away.”
Book safety, content warnings, and tropes & tags down below. His light brown eyes trailed over me, warming my skin, before he snapped his gaze up to my face. “Wow. I mean, hi.”
Reading this book was like getting a warm hug. It just made me feel happy and safe. Dash and Evan had fantastic chemistry, and it was lovely getting to see them date and fall in love. I especially enjoyed those first few times they met. Hilarious and cute. Dash folded both arms around my chest and let out a soft sigh. "Evan from heaven."
I especially liked how the author didn’t follow the usual script when it comes to couples where one MC is more masc and the other more femme. Evan enjoys crop tops and skirts, yet he’s taller than Dash is. He’s confident without ‘snark’ being his main personality trait. It was quite refreshing. He’s pretty without being the ‘wilting flower’ type. I hope all of that made sense. TLDR; I love both Dash and Evan, and Duckie Mack did a great job with making them original. “I don’t ask for much in life. I just want someone to feed me cheese and tell me I’m pretty.”
I have read the first book (you can totally read these as standalones), and I enjoyed it a lot, but I loved this one even more. Dash has an important and interesting backstory that I think is handled really well, but it doesn’t overshadow what is essentially a beautiful love story. I laughed a lot (so many meat puns, you guys), and I even managed to cry a little. I would definitely recommend it! I noticed he used a separate towel specifically for his hair. I’d have to ask him about it, so I could have one for him at my house.
“I have all these dreams of what a future could be and you are in every single one of them."
There’s so much swooning in this book. Dash said and did things all the time that made me go ‘aww’. Blanket spoiler warning ⬇️

“Have you ever met someone that was so hot that your brain just decided to take a stroll and leave you all on your own?” Starla smiled wide. “Oh! I see. What did he look like?” “God, he looked like sin. In all black, and tattooed, and the next thing I knew, I was paying for salami.” “Hun, I know dating’s been rough, but you shouldn’t have to pay for your…salami.”
I’d never really pictured fucking someone in a skirt before. But damn, it looked good on him. And it looked really good flowing over both of our naked bodies.
“I think I’ll keep you,” I mumbled half-asleep against the speckling of hair on his chest.
I'm loving this series! This story was absolutely adorable. Cheesy 😉😏 in the best way lol! Enjoyed reading the #ARC, Devoured it in 5hrs. Loved Dash & Evan.
A MM Opposite-attract romance b/w Dash (The meat guy, ex-convict) & Evan (Sonographer, Pretty boy). I had fun reading their story from the surprise market meet, sparks, the talks, & the eventual steam 🔥. Their relationship is goals!
I liked the slow getting to know, the respect & acceptance (especially with E's veg choice & D's past). I had a silly smile reading, also the 2 made me tear-up emotionally (from the sweetness mostly). Sometimes D+E are so cheesy (Angel 😍) that I was envious lol. I'll love a man to look at me / cook for me like that! HEA is sweet & looking forward to next book! Awesome cameos. RTC.
We have book 2 in the Heartcraft Market Series and this one features the tatted Dash and the femme Evan. I have to say as a 𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟭 reader, this is Duckie’s best work. Everything was SO GOOD. The prose, the relationship development, the ooey gooey love, the fluffy plot. A complete, and happy, and fantastic gay romance between an ex-con who’s just trying his best (and succeeding) and the sonographer who SEES him.
Gah! Y’all.
A vegetarian and a meat curator. Evan, the femme, gentle soul and Dash, the good guy. I LOOOVED these two together. From the absolute beginning I was just as smitten as these guys. Their whole meet cute was adorable.
From start to finish you will be happy. I can’t explain why this book resonated with me, but it did. I also loved Jason and Nico from Pies & Promises (book 1), and who we get to see! Actually, there’s so many cameo’s from Duckie’s other work. Seriously, you need this series in your life if you need sexy and sweet, and happy romances. Le sigh.
POV: 1st, Dual SPICE: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ ANGST: Fluffy; just complete happiness
As much as I adored Pies & Promises, I think this one might be my favorite now. I really liked both Dash and Evan's characters. I thought they were really great separately and when they were around each other they were even better. I laughed out loud at the scene where Evan buys Dash's meat and Starla picks on him for it. Especially since he's s vegetarian.
Dash's character surprised me, he was very thoughtful and creative. Yes, he was imprisoned but he learned from that. He did better, he worked hard to be better and to do better. He did what he could to learn and further better not only his business but himself. And when an angel appears in front of his booth he knows he can't just let the angel fly away.
Evan's character is hilarious! He's boisterous, outgoing, sweet, kind and loves his job. He listens to Dash's life story and doesn't judge him for it or holds it against him. Instead Evan tried to help Dash leave his past where it belongs, in the past.
I loved that Dash researched and tried to gain more knowledge about how to make vegetarian items. I thought that was so sweet and special. He didn't have to do that but he chose to because he wanted his recipes to be available for everyone, not just meat eaters. Also, if someone ever made me cheese, and then fed it to me, I would be a goner! I don't blame Evan for being completely smitten with Dash. I liked seeing Jason and Nico appear in this story, along with Collin's character getting introduced.
What I love the most is how Duckie incorporated little nods to her other series throughout not only this book but her other stories as well. And even though she has had Easter eggs in her other books, this one is packed full of them! It's really fun to see who or what she's going to reference. Within the first few chapters there was a nod up her Love Bank series, as well as her Black Cat Circus series. I loved both of those series so seeing them being mentioned was really cool. Crow's nest was also mentioned quite a few times, and Jonah and Van made quite an appearance as well.
This book was incredible and I'm so excited to learn more about Collin.
Y'all I have no words. This was so good. Evan was just what Dash needed after everything he'd been through. They were so freaking sweet together. At one point in the end I legit started tearing up. And the steamy parts were yummy. But it was the easy comfort they found in each other that I enjoyed the most. :cries:
This book was so adorable. I loved seeing more of the market and seeing Dash get his happy ending with Evan from heaven. He is sweet as can be. The fact that he kept buying buying meat as a vegetarian.... I loved it and understand being blinded by someone.. :)
DNF @ 37%. This story is cute, but I need more than this to keep me invested. On a positive note, I think the covers of all the books in this series are adorable. 🥰
Meats & Memories is the second book in the Heartcraft Market series. This book is about Dash, who sell at the market, snd Evan, a sonographer, who doesn’t eat meat, but si drawn to Dash’s stand.
They fall in love, and we learn along with Evan more about Dash’s history.
This was a quick, sweet, low-angst read. I can’t wait for the next book to learn Collin’s story.

“His thumb brushed slightly against me, making my brain do that thing where it vacated the premises.”
After reading Pies and Promises (the first book in the series), I had high hopes for Dash's story and I was not disappointed. I really liked how Duckie handled Dash’s incarceration and his experience with it. Duckie really emphasizes the fear, helplessness, and lingering effects that can come with incarceration, especially at a young age. So props to Duckie for handling this with care like she always does 👑
The characters in this book really hit me. They felt so real and tangible and fully developed that I was really sucked into their story. It was a sweet read, but definitely a very good one. The heavier topics in this book like working in the medical field and having to be the one to deliver the bad news and being incarcerated/its lasting effects really gave this book more depth and dimension.
There were also so many funny moments! If a book can make me laugh, then I know it’s good!! This one had me laughing several times. 😂❣️
Okay, the spice in this book was WAYYYYY more spicy than it was in Pies and Promises. I was like woah. Once things got rolling between Dash and Evan, they never stopped. 🥵 Also, their romance was soooo sweet, like their connection was so deep from the beginning. I was swooning very hard for them 🥰
This book had so many unexpected layers. The ending especially made me emotional several times over. For me, Meats and Memories was something special and probably my favorite book by Duckie that i’ve read so far. It was sweet, (but not too sweet) funny, dynamic, real, and just everything I didn’t know I wanted it to be. With that said, I can’t WAIT for Collin to get his story! I am beyond excited!! As always, happy reading! 💐🧀🛼
What do you get when a man that sells meat for a living meets a vegetarian?
The sweetest story ever written.
Evan was tired of the dating apps. He wanted to meet someone the old fashioned way and was determined to make it happen. While he was browsing the market, a sign catches his eye and intrigue sets in. However, when he stops in front of the booth, his brain leaves him high and dry when he catches sight of the man standing behind the table.
Dash knew his company name would grab people's attention. What he didn't expect was for it to also catch the attention of an angel. The man standing in front of his booth was the most beautiful man he's ever seen, he must be an angel. That angel became his muse, helping him expand his business and giving him something he truly wanted. A family.
Evan and Dash's story is super sweet. Evan, who is confident in who he is becomes tongue tied when he meets Dash. And Dash, who started with nothing, now has a thriving business thanks to Evan.
I adore how the Duckie-verse has finally overlapped. I was so excited when Starla made an appearance. I loved her in the Love Bank series and always hoped we'd get to see more of her.
My favourite part is when they both fanboy over Jonah for two completely different reasons. That scene was super cute.
I can't wait for the next book in this series. Looking forward to see what other characters make an appearance from the Duckie-verse.
This was one wonderful follow up book in the Heartcraft Market series by Duckie Mack. If you haven’t had the opportunity to read “Pies & Promises”, you are in for a treat as well as this one! I love the fact that this guy who is a vegan would buy meat just to be close to this guy who sells beef jerky type of meat. The feeling is mutual! What one would do just to be near his crush! I look forward to the next book in the series! Wouldn’t it be amazing if these would be made into a gay hallmark tv movie series?!?!? I give this one more than 5 allocated stars!
The story focuses on Dash who is rebuilding his life after being in prison for doing something rather stupid when he was a teenager. He would do handyman jobs for an elderly couple while cooking beef jerky on the side and sell them during the Weekend Market.
On the opposite side of the story lives this sonogram specialist named Evan who happened to have a free time on a Saturday. He decided to spend it at the Market and that was where his eyes spied this gorgeous guy selling beef jerky. Against his better judgment, he bought some beef jerky just because it allows him to be next to that hot stud and hear him talk. That’s where I’m going to stop here and have you pick up the book to read to find out what happens and how many more beef jerky Evan would need to buy before something actually happens. Happy reading!
**4.5** What a wonderful return to the Heartcraft Market. Dash is a man very much deserving of the meet-cute moment he has with Evan as their eyes lock over his stall table at the market. Evan has just given up on finding dates over apps, wanting the more personable approach. You can feel the connection that each man feels when they check each other out and then continue to connect over the following weeks. It's a heartwarming, low angst romance that has Dash having a second chance at life and making the most of it with his new business, Rub 'n' Tug. He's spent most of the last three laser focused on that but can't deny himself Evan, especially when he is also clearly interested. Evan is a sweetheart, loves his job as a sonographer but occasionally has a bad day. Finding that person to come home to for comfort is a dream that may be fulfilled with how well he and Dash go together. They may look completely different but everything about each other attracts them, spending as much time as they can together. They also make sure to include Starla, Evans best friend forever and roommate. I love their friendship, a perfect example of unwavering love and support. I love reading this series and can't wait for more from it, hopefully with one or two of the men that Evan met at the market in this book. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
This is my 2nd book from the author Duckie, and I’m hooked! Wow can they write a sweet story with a HEA! This was also the 2nd in this series and it was better than the 1st and I LOVED that story. But this one had Dash. *swoon*. Not only does the cover art make me think of Zayn Malik from One Direction (no complaints there) but Dash was the sweetest man. He made poor choices as a youngster, trying to fit in and he paid the price, but now he was a man trying to find his place in the world.
This story may have been a little sticky sweet with the angel nickname for Evan, but I don’t care. Dash saw Evan for who he was and I loved that. He even encouraged him to shine bright on how he wanted and to not worry about others.
Evan was also a sweetheart and didn’t care that Dash had made poor choices as a teen, he saw the man working his way out of that and succeeding with his own business and being a good and productive citizen.
I enjoyed the couple of cameos of Jason and Nico from the first story (wish there had been more) and the first glimpse of Collin for the upcoming 3rd story in the series (I can’t wait until March when it comes out).
If you want a sweet story that is easy to read and no drama this story is for you!
Heartcraft Market is such a sweet spot. Meats and Memories is book 2 of the series. This is a fun, steamy, quick read.
Dash is the meat vendor we met in book 1. He is an ex-con who is working to make a success of himself. A couple years ago he started smoking his meats for jerky and trying to see them at the market. He scraped every penny but now he is seeing great success.
Evan is a 6ft twink 😉 He is a sonographer, loves knee high socks, and crop tops. He is finally able to make it to the market and he stands tongue tied in from of Dash’s stall. So much so that he buys meat without even picking it out. And he can’t eat meat 🤦🏻♀️
Dash wants to take it slow so they can get to know each other before fun sexy times. He knows there is something special about Evan and he knows he needs to talk about his past before they move into the future.
These two guys are a lot of fun, so dang sweet, and when they get together….. HOT! The rollerskating date is 🔥🔥
This is the second in a series, but can easily be read as a standalone - although there are quite a few easter eggs not only from the first book in the series but from previous series. It could easily stand alone though. This is Dash and Evan's story, we do meet Dash briefly in the first book but know very little about him.
I loved this story, these are two very different guys but both looking for the same thing and it was such a delight to see them connect and find their forever with each other. I was enchanted with these two from their first meeting at the market when Dash thought Evan was an angel. They are complete opposites, light and dark together and that's why it works. This is funny too, the meat puns are never ending and I'm here for them, that will never not be funny 😂. For all that Dash has been through, there's remarkably little angst too, aside from the understandable PTSD, and I was so happy when he got his closure on that part of his life in the end too.
This is so much fun, low angst, sweet, hot and funny and I can't wait for more from Heartcraft market.
I appear to be drawn lately to books with cute twinks who like pretty things - and that's Evan in a nutshell, haha. He's also really strong as he has a super hard (emotionally) job, and he deserves all the pretty flowers and crocheted skirts his little heart desires. *piles presents at Evan's feet*
Dash is also adorable. What do you do when your entire livelihood is based around meats and meat products and the guy you fall for is a vegetarian? Clearly you LEARN TO MAKE FREAKING CHEESE, what the heck Dash?! He's so sweet and thoughtful, and this entire book was just one big swoon. Like he notices Evan uses a special towel for his curly hair (curly girl method, haaaay!) and is like "Hmm, I need to find out what kind of towel that is so I can have one for him at my place too." WHO DOES THAT? Dash does, apparently. Where can I get a Dash, please?
I loved the small nods to some of Duckie Mack's other series/books, like the brief mention of the Black Cat Circus.
This is the second book in the Heartcraft Market series, and can be read as a standalone. The main characters from book one, Pies & Promises, show up briefly as side characters in this one, and there's also some groundwork laid for Collin in book three, Yarn & Yearning (which I CANNOT WAIT FOR!)
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are unbiased and my own.
Dash sold his cured meat to private clients and at the Heartcraft Farmer's Market next to Jason, the pie man from Duckie's "Pies and Promises". Tattooed and sinfully sexy he part timed area gardening/yard work and meets Evan, a hospital sonographer. After Evan buys cured meat he won't eat expressing interest in Dash, they start to date. I loved Dash taking it slow and telling Evan the truth about his past before pursuing sex. Evan's such a sweet guy who has faith on Dash and is totally supportive. This is a low angst story with two guys finding perfect partners. I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.
Wonderful story. This right here is the reason why I love romances. Evan and Dash had me in all the feels. Every since their first meet up and throughout their lovely courtship, I had smiles. They were so sweet...no unnecessary drama...no miscommunication issues...just all love...**deep sigh with heart eyes**. I definitely recommend this sweet with heat romance. I came in on this 2nd book in the series. I'm officially hooked and very eager to get started on the next in line.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book
I really loved it. This two are really a match made in heaven. Evan is the fresh air Dash needed. And Dash is the man Evan needed. This two are super sweet, so much so that chapter 13 will stay with me for sooooo long. I liked all the puns, the cameos, how their relationship grows without rush, the meet cute, plus... A sexy tattooed man with "meat" 😉 I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this story.
When you need spicy & naughty, along with sweat and savory - this is your love story!
Dash was young & dumb (been there & done that). He made a bad choice encouraged by his friend and received a judge that threw the book at him! He pulled himself up and has accomplished so much. Evan aka Angel has taken a bad memory to help heal people. His grace is what we need more of. So many stories of people, struggles and soaring for inspiration. MM
I absolutely loved Dash and Evan in this book. Evan was such a sweetheart and made me giggle with his initial reactions to Dash. The pain of Dash's past comes across as what I viewed as a sensitive and thoughtful manner. I can not even begin to imagine the things he went through. My heart really goes out to him. Evan treated him with the utmost care and patience. I also really liked the part Starla played in the whole story. This will most likely go into my re-read pile for a later date.
I loved this book so much! Evan and Dash are amazing people, and they’re so swoony together! I was sucked into the story and I couldn’t stop reading until way past my bedtime. Go read this series!
