This book is so terrifying that you'll be checking the locks on your windows and doors as you read it! What an amazing thriller Michelle Godard-Richer has created!! This book is one of the best I've read this year! If you love thrillers don't miss this one!
Jessica wakes in the middle of the night and she's hot. She goes to the window, pulls up the blinds, and opens the window to let in some air. She gets immediate relief but notices movement outside. She sees her neighbor, Daniel, walking to his truck, opening the back, and returning back to the house. The next thing she knows, Jessica hears a scraping noise and it's coming from Daniel's house. He is now dragging a huge tarp to the back of his truck. He lifts it up to put in the truck bed and when he does, an arm slips out!! There's a butterfly tattoo on the wrist and Jessica knows immediately that the body is Daniel's wife!
Jessica gasps and drops down as David looks up at her window. Did he hear Jessica? Does he know that Jessica saw him? Does he know that Jessica knows that's his wife? Jessica crawls over to her cellphone and calls 911. She describes what she's seen and tells them to hurry. David goes back inside after raising the gate to his truck, turns lights off, and returns to his truck. He starts it and backs out of the driveway before the police arrive. Jessica tells the police over the phone David's license plate and describes his truck to them. They assure her they'll find him.
It's difficult for Jessica to sleep after this so she goes and checks on her 8 year old son, Bryce. Bryce is sound asleep and safe. She decides sleep won't be happening for her and goes downstairs to make some coffee. Jessica is a widower who lost her police officer husband about 6 years ago. He was shot in the head and killed immediately. It's just been Bryce and Jessica since then. Adam was such a good man. She still misses him and wears her wedding ring. Jessica dozes off on the couch and when she wakes she takes a shower. She hears something out front and when she looks, David is back, and he's washing his truck in the driveway! Jessica calls the police again and tells them about David. They send an undercover cop to speak with her and others to speak to David.
David tells the cops that he has no idea where his wife is as she left yesterday and said she wouldn't be back. There's no evidence other than what Jessica saw so they can't arrest him. The undercover cop who comes to Jessica's house later is Adam's old partner and good friend. She tells him everything she saw and he agrees that David probably killed his wife. The problem is they have no body. He tells Jessica to keep her doors and windows locked and to be careful leaving the house. Several neighbors could've called the police on David but he might know it was her.
Jessica decides to keep Bryce home from school and brings him to work with her. She works at a preschool and Bryce likes helping out. After work, they stop at the grocery store as Jessica promised Bryce cookies for helping her out. As they're pushing their cart down the aisle, David is pushing his up the same aisle. David has a hateful look on his face and is staring right at Jessica. She sends Bryce to pick out the cookies he wants and says she'll meet him by the bananas, a nice open part of the grocery store. Once Bryce is gone, Daniel grabs Jessica's arm and backs her into the metal shelf holding the food. He tells her he knows it was her who called the cops and he will get her.
Jessica calls Adam's partner again and he comes to the store. Daniel is long gone, but he insists on escorting them home and staying for awhile. Jessica has decided to leave town and go back to her hometown in Montana. She packs up the important things for her and Bryce. Adam's partner stays overnight on the couch and when Jessica gets up early she notices a paper covering the window in her front door. It's a threatening note left by David. She wakes Adam's partner and he asks for a bag to put the note in for fingerprints or DNA. He goes outside to take care of collecting it and tells Jessica to lock the door. Jessica is waiting, but thinks it's been too long. When she looks out the peephole, she sees him lying facedown on her porch with blood coming from his head. She rushes out to help him. Luckily, he wasn't seriously hurt, just hit on the head and knocked out.
Jessica loads up the car in the garage so that Daniel can't see what she's planning. She doesn't want him to know she's leaving town. She gets Bryce in the car with his most precious possessions and they head off towards Montana to visit her Aunt Debbie. She has told Jessica to come and stay as long as she wants. She's terrified for Jessica after she described what has happened. Adam's partner follows her, helps her pick out a burner phone so that she can't be traced from her main cellphone, and once he's sure they're safe, goes back to town. Jessica is relieved and feels like she made the right decision.
Aunt Debbie is so happy to see them and Bryce is thrilled to be in a place with a big yard and farm animals! Aunt Debbie tells Jessica that she's invited Jon for dinner as he's back in town, too. Jon and Jessica were childhood friends and were as close as two people can be. Once they were out of high school, Jon was headed to the FBI academy and Jessica was headed to college. They loved each other but didn't know how to make a long distance relationship work. so they decided to let each other go. Jon lost his wife 3 years ago and knows the loss that Jessica feels. When Jon arrives, Jessica is very excited to see him. It's just like old times as they fall right back into a comfortable and easy conversation. Dinner is wonderful and Jon is upset at what brought Jessica to town. He promises to help anyway he can, including renting Jessica a house on his farm. The tenants recently left and it just has to be cleaned before she and Bryce can move in.
Things start happening at the new place almost immediately. A key to the lawn mower is missing and then it mysteriously reappears, there are flattened flowers on the side of the house, a man's hiking boot footprint that is much larger than Jon's down behind the house by the woods, and footprints leading up to a back road with fresh tire prints. Did David find Jessica? Does he know where she is? How is that possible? Who is in the old truck following Jessica and Jon? Are Jessica and Bryce in danger? How can they catch David? Will he finally get what he wants and make Jessica disappear? Will Jon and Jessica find their way back to each other? Will Aunt Debbie be safe alone on her farm?
The pacing of this book is insane. It moves so fast that I read it in less than a day. You'll be cheering on Jessica, Jon, Bryce, and Debbie. You don't have time to catch your breath as things keep happening. Buckle up for this one because it's a real thrill ride!! Fatal Witness comes out on May 31 so you don't have to wait long to read it. I rate Fatal Witness 5 stars and look forward to the next book by Michelle Godard-Richer. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Wild Rose Press for an advanced copy of Fatal Witness in exchange for a fair review. #FatalWitness
A thrilling tale of a young mother who witnesses her neighbor disposing of a body and thus becomes his next intended victim. Forced to flee with her young son, Jessica encounters Jon, the man she once loved, who has retired from the FBI. Jon insists on helping defend her and capture the criminal.
When the murderer resurfaces, he hunts Jessica, wanting to eliminate her as a witness. Through Jon's investigation, Jessica learns that her former neighbor is a serial killer.
With exciting plot twists and memorable characters, Fatal Witness is a mystery, thriller, and romance combined.
After years of rewrites and tinkering, this book, close to my heart, is headed out into the world. If you haven't yet read Fatal Hunt, do not despair. Both books can be read as a standalone. In fact, I would suggest reading this book first.
Thank you so much for considering reading Fatal Witness,

5☆☆☆☆☆ Imagime minding your own buisness doing something so simple as trying to cool off on a hot night when you see something that changes your whole life, that's what happens to Jessica in this great action packed thriller. Fatal Witness is a suspenseful, edge of your seat page turner with a little romance thrown in. I would strong recommend this book to others.
Book Blurb Jessica opens her bedroom window in the middle of the night to catch a breeze, but instead, she witnesses something that will change the course of her life forever—her neighbor, David, loading his wife’s body onto the back of his truck. She soon learns David knows what she saw and will stop at nothing to eliminate the only witness to his crime.
With her young son Bryce in tow, Jessica flees across the border to Montana. She discovers her first love, Jon Kent, is back in town after an early retirement from the FBI. But he isn’t the only one in town. David surfaces to unleash hell on Jessica and everyone she loves.
In Book 2 of this series, widowed Jessica Miller lives with her eight-year-old son, Bryce, in Lewiston, Montana, where she is a preschool teacher. After she witnesses her neighbor dragging what she believes to be the body of his wife, wrapped in a tarp, to his truck at two in the morning and he sees her spying on him, she reports his suspicious behavior to the police, who are can’t arrest him without evidence. Fearing for her safety, Jessica hides Bryce at her aunt’s farm in Cochrane, Alberta, where she grew up and broke up with her high-school sweetheart, Jon, when she left for college and he enrolled in the FBI. Now fifteen years later, both are loyal to the memories of their spouses, but when they’re thrown together in crisis, Jon is ready to safeguard Jessica, who will do anything to protect her son and aunt from a madman. Startling twists and turns mesmerize readers through this heart-stopping quest and leave them gasping for more in the upcoming thriller in this series.
Jessica is a really great mom, and easy to relate to and her relationship with Bryce was genuinely believable. As soon as her baby’s safety was threatened, she did whatever she could to protect him. I really enjoyed that Jessica and Jon were quick to acknowledge their mutual attraction to each other and deal with it in a mature way – rather than beating around the bush or trying to ignore it. And as for David… yeah, that guy was a real piece of work that I hope I never run into. Some of the book was written from his point of view and I honestly expected him to be partially (or wholly) insane. I think the fact that he’s smart and resourceful is even more terrifying. A nice neat ending, with a small window of possibility for another book in the future.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
My first ARC! I was so excited receiving and reviewing this book - I went in without knowing that it is the second book in a series, but it can definitely be read as a standalone. A fast-paced thriller and I read this in one sitting!
This story follows a mom who witnesses her neighbor disposing of a body. She then flees with her child, bumps into a retired FBI agent who she previously had feelings with, and rekindled their love. He helps and protects her when the neighbor resurfaces and targets her because, of course, she was a witness to his crimes.
Anyway, as a mom myself, I love the element of how Jessica would do everything to protect her child. I particularly liked the romance mixed into the story, as well.
The writing style was just okay but would definitely recommend this book. Now, I'm on to reading the first book in the series.
I received this book as a part of a book tour for Advance Readers. My review is my own, honest opinion. Genre 5/5 Characters 5/5 Plot 5/5 Writing 5/5 Overall 5/5
Fatal Witness is enthralling with the same characters as we seen from Fatal Hunt. Fatal Witness is the sequel but, it takes place during the initial events between Jessica, Bryce, Jon, and David. Michelle Godard-Richer delivers an intense, chilling, sincere, loving narrative of characters and events. David is exactly the serial killer my true crime loving ass loves to see in thriller novels and her writing is excellent. My favorite character of all, though, is Debbie. She was an instant favorite. We also got to see into Jon’s past as an FBI agent, which was very cool and sad.
I highly recommend these books if you like serial killers, romance, action, and psychological thrillers.
Fatal Witness (The Fatal Series, #2) by Michelle Godard-Richer I enjoyed this romantic suspense - but I did not realize it ended in a kind of cliffhanger. Jessica and Jon have a second chance romance after they are both widowed. She witnessed a crime, and the killer is after her. There is plenty of action and the book kept me on the edge of my seat - and there is a sort of HEA -then the cliffhanger. I you don't mind not knowing what will happen next you will enjoy the book. Reasons I enjoyed this book: Informative Scary Wonderful characters Action-packed Romantic Steamy Great world building Easy-to-read Tragic Page-turner Twisted Unpredictable Tear-jerker.
This story was full of love and heartbreak. You can’t help but feel for Jon and Jessica as they get separated and follow different paths. Each of them will know heartbreak but they will come back together when Jessica is running away from a serial killer. She witnessed him with his wife’s dead body and he is now after the only witnesses who can connect him to the murder. So many twists and turns and the end of the book was a doozy! I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Wow! This story was a thrill ride. This book kept me turning pages and I LOVED the ending. The main character, Jess, was smart and tough, though she also showed a softer side. I even liked her son, Bryce. He was just as smart and tough as she was, which was a nice surprise. Jon, the former FBI agent, was intriguing. I can't wait to learn more about his background. Though this book is the 2nd in the series, I have not yet read the first. This book stood alone quite well, though now I want to go back and read the first. Look forward to more from this author.
What would you do if you saw someone disposing a body and that someone was your neighbor. You might grab your loved ones and run! This is the second book in a series (which I didn’t know starting the book) but it can be read as a stand alone. It was a fast pace thriller with a side of romance thrown in. Although at time I struggled to connect with the characters it did leave me guessing and the ending … what a cliffhanger!
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for the chance to read this arc!
This was a gripping, twisty, psychological thriller. Once things were set in motion it just kept snowballing and growing. Just when I thought it was going to calm down and finally have something good happen, bam! Another twist and the world is turned upside down again. Definitely very interesting and kept my attention until the very end.
It was an interesting and gripping fast-paced thriller with suspense and twists. It's a page-turner story with an unexpected ending. The absence of unnecessary and cringy romance was what I liked the most about this book 😁. The writing style was simple yet engaging. I couldn’t put it down and ended it within a day. P.S. I loved the character of Jon, such a sweetheart he was! ❤️
If you’re in the mood for a gripping, page turning thriller, Fatal Witness is definitely one to consider! No time is wasted as this book jumps right into the action when a young widow, Jessica wakes during the night and witnesses a heinous crime happening at her neighbors house. She attempts to hide but is spotted by her neighbor. After reporting what she saw to the police, Jessica and her young son Bryce flee to safety at her Aunts farmhouse where Jessica reconnects with her old high school love, Jon. An ex- fbi agent, Jon proves to be especially useful to have around when strange things start happening around them. Soon, the strange occurrences begin to seem more sinister as Jessica discovers that she has been followed and is being hunted by a ruthless murderer who will stop at nothing to make sure his secrets die with her. Will she and Jon be able to help the authorities capture an elusive serial killer before he makes good on his threats to get rid of his crime’s only witness? And how many others will get caught in the crossfire? This gripping thriller hooks you in right away and never let’s go until just when you think you have it all figured out. The twists will have you questioning everything and everyone and most importantly, wondering who you can really trust. Definitely a must read!
Some books pull you in and refuse to let go—Fatal Witness is one of them. From page one, it’s a heart-pounding mix of suspense and twists that keeps you guessing until the very end. Michelle Godard-Richer has a gift for crafting a thriller that’s both gripping and smart.
At the center is Jessica, a widow and living life with her son Bryce, is thrust into a deadly game after witnessing a brutal crime. She’s resourceful and brave, but her fears and doubts make her feel incredibly real. The stakes are high, the danger constant, and every move Jessica makes feels like it could be her last.
What really sets this book apart is the perfect balance of action and emotion. The twists will keep you on edge, but it’s Jessicas relationships and inner struggles that make the story unforgettable. Add a truly chilling villain, and you’ve got a nail-biter that never loses steam.
If you love fast-paced, character-driven thrillers with razor-sharp twists, Fatal Witness is a must-read.
The blurb and beginning of the book was really interesting, and I really enjoyed how most characters were somewhat relatable. Later down in the story, many characters starting making those "questionable horror movie decisions," including the main character, policemen, etc., making the story slightly infuriating. Still, I liked the suspense-building, and I finished reading the book in one go!

This book was amazing!!! This is the second book in the Fatal Series but is set before book 1. I enjoyed watching how Jessica and Jon reconnected and rekindled their love. This book was full of excitment, suspense and a touch of spice. There is death, a police officer killed, and kidnapping of a child in this book. The characters are well developed and down to earth. the plot kept me guessing and engaged the entire book. I can't wait to read more books in this series!
What an awesome suspenseful thriller Fatal Witness by Michelle Godard-Richer is, a fast paced intense filled read, I was hooked. Jessica was a witness to something her next door neighbour David had done, and soon finds out David knows she witnessed his crime and goes all out to chase Jessica down eliminate the one person that can expose him. I read Fatal Witness first as it's a prequel to Fatal Hunt, so pleased I did so I got to know how she and Jon connected. A brilliant book with incredible characters and settings I could visualise in my mind. Could not put this one down, a definite 5⭐️ thriller.

Review- I loved this book. The writer allows you to connect with Jessica and Jon. It's heart warming, fast pace and suspenseful. A hallmark murder mystery type of book. I couldn't put it down and now I'm counting on a sequel!
I recieved this book as a gift and this is my honest review- with Rhonda Lynn Bobbitt and Michelle Godard-Richer
Great Read!!! This is the second book in the Fatal Series and Michelle did not disappoint!! I loved going back in time and finding out how Jon and Jessica reconnected. They loved each other since they were younger and similar losses helped them reconnect. A beautiful love story!! This was a book I could not put down. It had lots of excitement and kept me wanting more!! I hope that there will be a third book, cause I think there is definitely more to their story. They aren't out of danger yet!! Definitely one of my favorite reads of 2023!!!
This book is definitely a on your toes, edge of your seat thriller!! I couldn’t put it down. It was a great read. This is number 2 in this series and the author recommended starting with this one. They both could be standalone. So of course I’m now on the hunt (pun intended) to get the first one so I can see if it answers any questions of mine. To me their could be room for a third one! Thank you NetGalley for allowing me access to this brilliant book!
I enjoyed the wild ride of this book! There were so many twists and turns that I never knew where the author was going to take it next. While the main focus was about Jessica's efforts to get away from David and not let him ruin her life, there was also a little bit of romance sprinkled in. This is listed as book 2 in the series but I read it first based on the author's recommended reading order. I can't wait to pick up the other book in the series, Fatal Hunt, to see how the story continues!
5☆☆☆☆☆ Wow, this is an extremely intense thriller. You will think you have it all figured out and then bam... another twist. This is a faced paced serial killer thriller with a touch of romance. Excellent writing and character building. And the ending...holy cow, I was not expecting that ending at all... I need more.
From the dynamite start to the shocking cliffhanger ending, Fatal Witness is an action-filled race to catch a serial killer. Book 2 in Michelle Godard-Richer’s Fatal series, actually takes place before the first in the series. Although the books can be read as stand-alones, if you read Fatal Hunt first (as I did), you will find yourself wanting to revisit it after reading Fatal Witness, which provides the reader with a background story that adds even more depth to the main characters and the danger that stalks them.
The Hitchcockian premise of this book has a witness (Jessica Miller) catching her neighbour (David) carrying his wife’s body to his truck in the middle of the night. From there, it’s a cat and mouse chase across the Canadian border to Montana, where Jess meets up with her old boyfriend, ex-FBI agent Jon Kent. Sparks fly in more ways than one as they rekindle their romance, and David threatens everyone Jess loves. With just the right amount of backstory to make the characters’ motivations clear, the book is a quick and easy read, and I flew through it.
The multiple POVs, alternating mainly between Jess, Jon, and David, added to the suspense and kept me turning the pages as one tense moment melted into another. Even with reinforcements, David seemed to elude capture and be one step ahead. I liked how the FBI, local law, and friends worked together to protect Jess and track the killer. The bond between Jess and Jon adds an element of romance to lighten a horrific situation, as does the theme of family relationships. I love how Jess and her aunt Debbie are portrayed as strong women, but in my opinion, it’s Jess’ eight-year-old son, Bryce, whose bravery wins the prize. Juxtaposing his innocent child POV with the killer’s malicious POV is an effective literary device.
The remote setting in the mountains of Montana adds to the chilling atmosphere of a killer hunting down his witness. If you are looking for a fast-paced page turner you won’t be able to put down, Fatal Witness is the perfect psychological crime thriller. I can’t wait to read book 3 in the series!

Will David.be caught? Will Jessica and Jon find the happiness they both thought they would never have again. Will Jessica and her son be safe? As the plot twists and turns’ the answers reveal themselves. But things aren’t always what they seem…
I found Fatal Witness to be compelling and intense. The story was strong and the characters were written so well, that I felt like I knew them. I could feel all of their emotions. Great thanks to the author who put so much into making the people and story come alive.
