While in San Francisco during 1995 I had the great fortune to attend the book signing by Celia Sandys at the wonderful bookstore owned and operated by the memorable Richard Hilkert in Hayes Valley. Sadly that remarkable bookstore no longer holds residence in San Francisco, but this little treasure of a biography about Winston Churchill has proudly been carried forward since that eventful evening. Time is allowing me now to read many of the books I have accumulated over the many years and this one lived up to many of the expectations I had of it. It is a well written analysis and history of the early formative years of Churchill, adroitly compiled by his granddaughter. the author.
