I was blessed with educational opportunities - a great public school system, Augustana College in Rock Island, where I met my wife Christina. We went to Canada for my seminary and her graduate work in German. Yale gave me the chance to earn an STM from excellent professors - Dahl, Malherbe, and Holmer. I also heard Roland Bainton lecture and corrsponded with him. After ordination I was given a full scholarship for the PhD program in theology at Notre Dame. I began publishing articles in Canada in the 1970s and began publishing books later.
Jackson writes from an orthodox Lutheran perspective without back-peddling or apology. Since I am a Baptist, I disagree with some of the things he says, and am sometimes the object of his attack. Still, I was not only encouraged in most of the doctrine we share, but also observed a confidence in truth which is difficult to find.
Rev. Dr. Jackson is clear and concise in his description of the problems and prescription of the solutions within the Christian Church. And yet many, if not most, will reject his cure. For it relies on the Holy Spirit, working through Word and Sacrament, to effect saving faith in each person's heart. And the content of this faith is expressed especially well in the ecumenical Creed of Nicea-Constantinople, used since the 4th century A.D., by the Churches of both the East and the West. Today, many believe their wisdom superior to God's, as given to us in the Bible. Today, many reject the necessity that the Church is one, holy, catholic, and apostolic. Today, many choose to reject what the Church has taught through the ages. These they forsake at the eternal peril of their souls..
