With no sense of direction, and nowhere to go, I’m left seeking out the last person who expected to see me.
Hades Gray, also known as my brother’s best friend.
He’s part of Carnival de Morte, otherwise known as the Carnival of Death.
A secret society.
He was my childhood crush, though those feelings don’t nearly compare to the fire that explodes between us now, leaving scars on my heart and finger imprints upon my skin.
He isn’t like other men, and I’m instantly captivated by his touch.
There’s a mystery about him that I’m nearly desperate to uncover.
It’s only when he lays his fingers on my skin do I realize the type of man he really is.
Commanding. Possessive. Dominant.
And it only takes a glance from him before I fall to my knees.
He wants to protect me, to fix the broken wings atop my back.
Though, soon enough, there isn’t anyone who can protect me from the evil headed my way, not even Hades Gray.
ღ 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐁𝐄𝐀𝐔𝐓𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐁𝐔𝐓𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐅𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐒 ღ Is the first full length dark romance book in the (The Bones of Betrayal) series by author A.R. Breck. Spoken in 'dual perspectives. Ends in cliffy, next release is May.
As soon as this landed on my ipad it was game over, life as I knew it was put on hold until that very last page was behind me, leaving me gasping, growling for the next book. You could feel everything this author put into this book, heartbreak, darkness, flip flopping between living and giving up, the need to run, to put an end to all her misery. Vivianna Finch was so relatable because all of us at some stage in our lives have felt helpless, alone, broken.
All that Vivianna Finch has in the world is her brother, but he's just as broken as she is and sends her to his best friend Hades Grey the only person who he trusts to take care of his little sister because he can't.
But is she jumping out of the frying pan, into the fire?
These two had a connection way back, when she was no more than a butterfly in his eyes, he was the boy she fantasized about marrying. Now on his turf it's not long when things heat up between them.
Nine months after suffering an unspeakable tragedy, 17-year-old Vivianna Finch finds herself in a position she could have never predicted. With hope all but lost, her brother, Alastor, suggests reaching out to his estranged best friend, Hades Gray.
Making her way to Hades at Carnival de Morte, Vivianna finds the traveling show is filled with people much like herself: broken and dejected, but surviving.
As we travel with the carnival, we experience a plethora of emotions. From the palpable pain Vivianna was experiencing in the beginning to the heartening way we felt as she found her footing in a new, albeit unconventional, lifestyle. As various secrets come to light there is fear and anger, shock. Yet I just know all these experiences are going to make Vivianna that much stronger and I can’t wait to watch her transformation!

This book was so beautifully written! It’s raw, dark, and packed with a roller coaster of emotions. Hades and Vivianna are characters who’ve gone through their fair share of pain and struggle. Their story is full of twists and turns that will leave you hooked, and if you’re looking for a beautifully dark read then you’ll enjoy this.
"You stepped into my hell, little butterfly. You won't be able to fly free this time."
I was always charmed by dark themed carnivals and this story hit me right into my black little heart!!! LOL!!! The mystified atmosphere of this book was an aphrodisiac by its own... Add to that a broken girl and a hot alpha male that needs to protect her with all his mighty and you will have an explosive result!!! Of course, it doesn't hurt if beside that sexy speciman of a man, there are three more swoonworthy males... Or that the Carnival of Morte has its own personal serial killer!!! Or that it ended in a huge cliffy that was making you salivating for more of this world!!! All the above are conducting the perfect recipe for a very intense, dark experience with hidden truths and betrayals that are hitting directly to the heart!!!
"Do you think I can save you, Vivianna?"
Vivianna is lost after the fire that ruined her life... She is kind of broken too and she needs her brother to be by her side in order to get over this black cloud that is taking too much space inside her soul... But Alastor is broken too and unable to take care of her... So, he is sending her away to his best friend, Hades, in order to help her!!! And just like that, Vivianna is entering a whole new world that is full of charming acts, but where deception lies and evil is lurking around the corner... and Vivianna is landing in the middle of that!!!
"Stop everything, or else I'm going to destroy you." "You can't destroy something that's already in pieces."
Hades and Vivianna had always a connection... and now, that they are meeting each other again that connection is taking epic proportions... There is an invisible string that is bounding their hearts together and they are incapable to ignore it anymore... Hades is strong and the security that Vivianna needs in her life... Hades wants to fix the broken girl that landed to his door, but it's not an easy thing to do when there are so many ugly things that are surrounding them... What will happen after all with these two, since that darn cliffy let me in agony of whatthe next steps will be???
"I've always known you'd fly free one day, I just never thought you'd land right into my palm."
I really loved Vivianna, even though she was broken... Her scars, visible and invisible, were making her even more alluring... Yes, this girl had reached to a crossroad in life, but she was a fighter and even though her wings were clipped, she was still strong enough to survive!!! I liked Hades very much!!! He was really delicious in every aspect!!! Insert a little bit drooling here!!! LOL!!! I liked how possessive and protective was of his little butterfly!!! And yes, he has his own share of mistakes, but I really want to see him with Vivianna at the end!!! This couple was very intense and they were fitting so beautifully together!!!
"If that muscle in your chest aches when I'm around, let it ache, baby girl. Let it fucking bleed for me."
I really need the next part ASAP, cause this ending destroyed me!!! Everything turned upside down and honestly, I don't know how this mess can be untangled!!! Also, I am craving Liam, Kennedy and Brennan's stories!!! I am very intrigued by them and I loved how supportive they were of Hades and Vivianna... I loved how big their embrace was for this broken girl!!! And I need them to get their own stories... Of course, I am very intrigued by Alastor too!!! And I can't wait to see how he will react to this thing between his little sister and his best friend!!! A.R. Breck knows to write darkly beautiful intriguing stories, that's the only sure thing!!!
"Hades is my name, and I only cause destruction."

I tried, I really did, but I just couldn’t keep pushing myself to continue reading. It’s not that the writing or the book is bad cause it’s not, but i’m just not feeling this book right now.
One thing that irritates me is the whole reference to butterflies being mentioned in every. single. chapter. I understand what it means and why it’s in every chapter, but seriously, can I go one sentence or chapter without it? It’s so annoying now after reading it over and over.
one more time i read the mentioning of butterflies, ill burn the book.
major spoilers below. honestly, i was super invested in the beginning of the book. i loved the writing style, i loved how the plot was going. it was all pretty good, yeah? and then hades is mentioned and the fmc's whole personality becomes him.
the fmc annoyed me so fucking much. okay, so if there's a news about a killer going around assaulting & murdering women, what would a normal person with brains do? stay the fuck home and not walk around alone. but our -1000 IQ fmc here, thinks its a good idea to take a nice jolly walk around the woods during the night and that too, all alone. and during one of these walks, she even encountered a dead body and even that didn't even stop her from her midnight walks. it was like she was asking to be killed. her dumb choices were irking me out. and why the fuck does she run away every time someone has a serious conversation with her? like could you please be mature for a few minutes. she didn't have a fucking personality, her whole life revolved around hades.
hades was...yeah, idk what to think of him. he was just there. he felt like a side character to his own story. also can we please talk about how HE BURNED THE FMCS HOUSE??? i know it was an accident, but i don't fucking care. i was so done by the time i reached this twist, i wasn't even surprised when i got to know he was the reason for the death of the fmc's mom.
and the killer was so obvious?? like i bet everyone figured out who it was but the characters where like "i wonder who the killer is?". bitch shut up, i wonder where your brain is.
Y’all. This is my favorite book of AR Breck’s I’ve read so far. SO FUCKING GOOD.
Vivianna has had a rough time with being in a house fire and getting severely burned, losing her childhood home, a loved one, and then living off the the street.
When her brother tells her to go find his friend, Hades, who works at Carnival de Morte, Viv is off to try and spread her wings like the butterfly she is and turn her life around.
Little does she know while she’s at the carnival, she will become more broken than she was before.
How much can one person take before they snap?
Please read the triggers at the beginning before diving into this book.

Are you looking for a book filled with suspense and emotion? Well.. this duet is for you!
In these books we are related to Vivianna and Hades. Two protagonists with strong and determined personalities.
Viv, recently suffered some problems in her life and was forced to look for her brother's best friend, Hades. Hades, on the other hand, lives a complicated life, where his work on a Carnival forces him to survive in the face of danger. When Viv arrives at the Carnival, Hades is possessed, because his dear Butterfly was not made to live in that captivity, but to fly freely. In this Carnival, in addition to the traditional attractions, there are also disappearances and deaths. And in this plot you will discover and unravel them.
Seriously, you guys need to read this duet, it's perfect! Thank you Breck for this book. I'm looking forward to having the Hades friends books and I need the continuation of this Viv and Hades story!! I can't wait for this!! I'm in love with these bad boys!!! 🖤🖤
As always Andrea has enthralled me with her talent to wield her words to create a book that sets a haunting eerie world while also leaving me emotionally broken. Vivianna and Hades story is tragically beautiful. Right off the bat we’re already emotionally invested with Vivianna’s character, this soul goes through the worst pain imaginable which shapes her for the rest of the story, she’s broken yet strong and when it comes down to it she’s a force to be reckoned with. Hades Gray , my my my, as his name painsakes our dark god , Hades is an enigma wrapped up in the darkest cloak, we get bits and pieces of Hades background to know he is another broken soul. These two come together and it is electric! Their chemistry sets the world on fire ( pardon the pun) but with a connection this strong sometimes something burns it out which brings us to the catalyst of the events to set up book 2!
This book has got to be one of AR Breck’s best work yet and as you all know I love everything Andrea puts out.
The world building with the evocative imagery with the eerie carnival that travels from place to place that no one is meant to know about unless you’re invited to the poetic character development, this book is like no other and fans of Andrea’s dark worlds and emotional crippling characters , you’re in for a treat.
A.R. Breck has done it again she has created a world and story that I’m obsessed with! This was such a exciting thrilling story full of suspense and mystery I loved the characters the writing was excellent it’s emotional and steamy it’s everything we come to love about her writing with a brutal shocking ending that left me reeling! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
My name is Hades, my little butterfly. Welcome to my hell.
Wow this book so good, I loved the carnival and the creepy vibes that came with it, Andrea does spine tingling books so well. Be sure to check the TW’s though.
My heart hurts for Vivianna and everything she’s gone through over the last several months, losing the people you love is heartbreaking and then the one person who should have been there for her checking out, completely destroyed her. So her brother suggests she gets out of Denver and goes and finds his best friend Hades who will take her in and protect her, only she has to find a carnival that doesn’t exist beyond invite only, The Carnival de Morte!!
Hades is dark and intense and the last person he ever thought he’d see is Vivianna Finch at his carnival. Hades is intense and dark but above all else he is hella protective and possessive of Viv, they’ve both harboured an attraction to each other but never once letting the other know, not that anything would have happened anyway because one Hades is her brothers best friend and two he was always disappearing.
“You’re broken, Vivianna, and I’ll help you fix your wings and get you flying again. Wherever destiny brings you, I’ll be by your side.”
I’m very excited to see what’s going to happen next especially after the last couple chapters 😳 things are about to get interesting. Also I’d love to give BIG love to Hades 3 best friends Brennan, Kennedy and Liam because they really took Viv under their wing and became protective of her because she means something to Hades!!
I feel like Andrea was trying to emotionally break me with this book so I’ll be sending her my future therapy bills. My heart 😩 poor Vivianna, I felt I could relate to her a lot. Experiencing the same traumas and pain. I instantly loved her. If there’s a character I could wrap in bubble wrap and protect forever it would be her.
I loved the setting and scenery for this book, it was so imaginative and descriptive and just the type of messed up world I’d love to live in. Having a dark travelling circus that’s invitation only is very eerie especially when it’s being stalked so I was just obsessed, I couldn’t put it down!
As always Andreas men send me absolutely feral, honestly I think she loads them with crack. Hades is a god. I would bow down to him anyday. The brothers best friend. The bad one. The one with this need to be in control at all times. (Someone say Daddy 😏) and of course completely dangerous. The way Viv and Hades are just drawn to each other, he is her saviour but god can she hold her own when absolutely pushed!
I am so excited for book 2, I can’t wait to read what happens next and to be back in this world.
Dark romance The Beauty of Butterflies by A.R. Breck centers on aerialist Vivianna Finch and carny Hades Gray.
Words would not do this book justice if they tried to convey its perfection. From beginning to end this book was amazing!
I loved how A.R. obviously went into detail and succeeded in making her readers fall in love with Hades through the way he was described and introduced. The writing, tropes, smut scenes, and carnival scenes were all fucking amazing, so A.R. clearly went all out on this. The fact that this is a dark romance without being overdone and that Hades still had his good moments, particularly when it came to protecting Viv, really appealed to me.
All in all, this was undoubtedly a whirlwind of emotions where, at the very end, you'll go from fawning over Hades & Viv to feeling like a proud mom (iykyk).
*Thank you to the author, A.R. Breck, for providing me with this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.*
DNF’d @ 49% I could not force myself to finish this book. Vivianna is super immature and has no personality. All the tragedy that she’s been through and her crush on Hades is her personality. I couldn’t connect with her. There’s a major the lack of world building. I love dark and spooky books so I thought this would be perfect but it was disappointing instead. I found a couple of grammar errors and missing words in sentences that I had to fill in myself. I hate doing that, it’s one of my biggest pet peeves.
I LOVED this book! In terms of the spice scale it’s not super spicy but what was there was beautifully written. I devoured this book and cannot wait to read the next one!
A new series set very close to the author's heart. It's swept me up like her butterfly. This story has such an impact with its loneliness and heartache which Vivianna feels. Her childhood is plagued by fire, death and a distant brother. Living on the streets as a young woman has been hard. She's a survivor but her brother is slowly killing himself. Alastor is not the best brother but he knows that his sister can't continue to tag along with him anymore. His old friend has been working for a mysterious carnival and he thinks she will be better with him.
Hades is his name. Vivianna remembers her childhood crush. Now what will he be like? She has general directions from her brother. Search for Hades Gray. He's in a carnival. A strange one. Carnival de Morte.... He's different now. A man with such darkness in his eyes. The boy is gone. The young girl is gone. Vivianna and Hades are adults who have a connection. Undeniable and electric. He makes her fly like that butterfly he called her long ago. She dances and flies in the silks of the carnival show. Her beauty and scars on display. But the carnival is not innocent. There is death and despair in the people. Secrets. Even being so connected there is only so much love can do when tragedy comes. Vivi and Hades must make the best of it but sometimes it's not enough. Fly butterfly 🦋
I have so many thoughts on this book. First, the FMC is 18/19 and the MMC is in his 20s, which is not that bad; but for the kinda book this is I would think they'd be older.
Second there is so many plot holes, yes I realize that this is book one of a series, but it's little plot holes that don't make any sense or were never explained more later on.
Third are the time jumps. The time jumps don't make any sense at all. The books I've read in the past that have time jumps are usually weeks/months later. This author did time jumps for a few hours or days.
And last, the ending seemed rushed. This book is only 302 pages. The author made it seem like it was going to be a bigger reveal than what it actually was.
All in all it's safe to say that this author is not for me and if you think this book is for you try it out you might like it. It just wasn't my cup of tea. Also make sure to check your trigger warnings for this book.
Tropes: dark romance, brothers best friend, forced Proximity, secret society.
Favorite quote: "You're broken, Vivianna, and I'll help you fix your wings and get you flying again. Wherever destiny brings you, I'll be by your side."
This book pissed me off so much 😤😤 I really liked the beginning of it and the writing was super good, loved the storyline, but then it just went downhill from there:
Vivianna just ended up being so annoying and dumb. Like her whole personality was Hades, and then when they found out there’s a serial killer on the loose who is now targeting her she decides to go for walks alone at night in the woods??? And then acts surprised when she keeps getting chased??? And finding dead bodies of other girls??? Like girl what? How are you that stupid??
And then the plot twist at the end was just so predictable, you could tell fairly early on in the book who the serial killer would be and how it would end, which was annoying. But then there was the other big twist where Hades is the one that burnt her house down I was like are you kidding me 🙄🙄 I feel like I was already so fed up with the book at that point that it just made me dislike the book even more 😭😭😭

This book was incredible. I absolutely loved the carnival theme and the extra creepy parts that came with that.
Vivianna has been through a lot right from the beginning of this book, losing both parents and her body being permanently changed with scars. After living on the streets with her brother, he sends her off to Carnival de Morte to find his friend Hades. Hades is a force to be reckoned with. Once vivianna is back with him, he's fiercely protective of her and will hurt anyone who hurts her.
This book is dark and creepy, and im here for it. After the last few chapters of the book, I can't wait to see what happens in book 2
Butterfly. Little butterfly. Butterfly. Little butterfly. The only words i remember😃 And the protagonist had no personality other than having a crush on her brother's best friend. Girl, do what you actually came to do, find a source for money earning but nope😍🙏🏼 I couldn't read this bye, the insta love/attraction is not my thing💀
3.5 ⭐️ the romance was good but the “mystery” was lacking. Author seemed in love with writing the dynamic between the LI’s.. not much development but it was interesting.. then remembered there was supposed to be a plot in the last 10%. I literally forgot for like 30% that someone was trying to kill her.
The Beauty of Butterfiles is a must read! The suspense, the mystery, the spice, the angst created a heart stopping epic ride that I didn’t want to end.
“You’re broken, Vivianna, and I’ll help you fix your wings and get you flying again. Wherever destiny brings you, I’ll be by your side.”
Poor Vivianna has been through a lot in her short 18 years. She’s lost both of her parents, her brother is addicted to heavy drugs, and she’s still reeling and trying to recover physically/mentally/emotionally from a traumatic event. Then her brother sends her away to meet up with an old friend who can watch over her and help her. Hades is a performer for the Carnival de Morte. He is shocked to see his friend’s little sister at first but then his instincts to protect her and care for her kick in. He doesn’t want her near the carnival which is full of dark and violent things but he also can’t find it in himself to make her leave.
I absolutely loved the carnival setting. It was magical at times and creepy as all hell right from the start. There is a serial killer raping and murdering the female carnival workers and guess who just got a job as a dancer? Viv.
“You’re powerful. You’re broken and powerful and it’s almost painful to watch. But if it’s pain I’ll get when I stare at you, I’m fine with living in agony.”
The Beauty of Butterflies is an intense ride from beginning to end. It’s harsh, gruesome, tugs at all of your emotions, and plays with your fear. It’s the AR Breck I’ve come to know and love. I was immediately sucked into the story after the first chapter and was holding on for dear life the entire way through. The romance between Viv and Hades was one that burned hot and fast but inevitably was doomed from the beginning thanks to a horrible secret Hades has been hiding for a long time. This book delves into some very heavy topics so please check out those trigger/content warnings before reading. And I know it’s only going to get more intense in future books. I’m excited for it but I know it’s gonna hurt. Be prepared for a cliffhanger babes!
“This is where you say, thank you, Daddy.”
TWs: on page murder, homelessness, drugs and overdose (not done by the MCs except for some weed), loss of a parent, house fire, hospitals and medical care scenes, depression, grief, anxiety, suicidal ideation, crime scenes and dead bodies, mentions of off page rape of the murder victims, on page rape of the FMC (not by the MMC)
4.5 ⭐️ 3.5🔥
What to expect: Brother’s best friend Scarred FMC MMC who has no problem with killing Dom/sub themes Bondage Creepy hidden carnival with mysterious murders happening Spanking “Daddy” Hand necklaces with light breath play
This book had so much promise. The story was unique and stylistic, if a little heavy on the over the top emo vibe. Then suddenly the heroin just becames too stupid to live. She continually runs away melodramatically any time someone tells her something she doesn't want to hear even though a "mystery" (we'll get back to this) serial rapist and killer has chased her 3 times and the Hero and all his friends are like "Don't do it!" Then it's like the author let her 8th grade cousin come in and write the last quarter of the book. I don't even know if she came up with the dialogue herself or if she got it out of the "100 Most Cliche Story Climaxes" The dialogue "I'll never forgive you" "Let me explain" is used... 🤦♀️ And THEN she's off running again and I'm sure you'll NEVER GUESS what happened this 4th time she ran away. I don't want to give spoilers, but the ending cliffy is just bad to the point of almost satire. Yeah, anyways, back to the villian, he is so embarrassingly obvious that I was actually shocked. No attempt to conceal his identity was even made, it was like she made a commercial for the superbowl advertising "This guy is the bad guy!" I gave this 2 stars because there IS potential there. The first half of the book is interesting and pretty great, the spice is alright and the characters are compelling. However the climax and some of the finer details need to be taken back to the drawing board and redone. I don't know if she ran out of time or ideas and just said "F it" or what. Not sure if I'll bother with the next book or not, may skim it to see if there's improvement.

Wow, wow, wow, I am still reeling from the last two chapters of this book. Everything about this book screams what I know and love from Andrea's writing. From the whole creepy carnival setting that gave me major AHS: Freak Show vibes, to the darkness both our main characters have come from. I really feel this is just what Andrea EXCELS at, and I couldn't be more excited for people to read this book and the books to come from this series in the future. I still cannot get over the last few chapters.
Hades and Vivianna are just something else. They're connected through their souls and it really is something you can feel throughout the book. Vivianna is broken, and Hades is just an enigma in himself, and together, they complete eachother. Hades and his little butterfly.
I adored Hades friends too, they really are a family and I love the found family within friends trope. I'm not going to say much more because it really is best to just go in blind on this and let the 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐝𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞 suck you in, spit you out and feel like you've come off the craziest rollercoaster of your life.
After reading this book I was at a loss of words because the life that had been thrown on Viviana was heartbreaking and so real. After enduring a horrible incident losing her mother and a brother who is lost in his own issues she is finding herself on the streets struggling. Viviana’s brother sends her in the direction of Hades, one of his old buddies that is part of this secret carnival. Hades is this character that is tough, has his own issues, struggles with his demons, yet is incredibly protective of her. He doesn’t know where these feelings come from but they are there and he can’t stop the fall. These two are drawn to each other and this carnival is not for the faint of heart, but it is dark and depraved. Hades worries about Viv’s safety yet doesn’t want her out of reach, but someone out there is lurking and waiting for their next victim. This story was incredible from the intense carnival to the emotions and struggles that they endure. It’s definitely a dark read that ends on a cliffhanger that will leave you stunned,s o be prepared. I can’t wait to devour the next one the author poured her heart and soul into telling this story and the changes that the characters went through that it pulls the readers in and you love it.
