CONFETTI TORNADO features Australian artist and poet, Darby Hudson's best poems published over the past ten years, freshly breathed to life with illustration. A parade of the frivolous and foolish, and a meandering among stars, ghosts and dreams, CONFETTI TORNADO is ideal for newcomers to his work. And it's a colourful sideways new take for those already familiar. Some of these works have been previously published in Best Australian Poems (Black Ink books) and shortlisted for the Newcastle Poetry Prize.
I purchased this book as part of the complete collection of e-books and had to review it separately because it deserves special mention. It's quite simply a feast for the eyes and the soul. "Love and hate", "Bee", "Strangers", "Incredible" all wonderful examples of why you need this book in your life. Also .. I love typewriters.
These whimsical and colourful illustrated poems are full of unconditional love for every moment, even the dark and painful moments. This book is a comfort and a joy and always feels like a tiny celebration when I open it.
This whole book is beautiful. On a rainy, grey day I opened it and each page surprised me, touched me, made me laugh out when I didnt expect it. Beautiful.
As an Actor and Poet myself, this simple yet beyond super effective collection really spoke volumes to me! If you’re going through any form of darkness with anything you’re pursuing, this collection is the constellation of stars in the dark room of your mind, heart and soul. It is the nurturing nudge you need in order to put one foot in front of the other, and to push and climb through the quicksand of your struggle. It is the reminder that you will reach your goal no matter how much fog of bleakness blinds you from the fact that you always have the ability to transform into anything you’ve ever dreamed of by being disciplined, brave and courageous enough to satisfy your gratitude and give yourself the forgotten opportunity as often as possible to pursue whatever makes you You! Darby has such a creative way of showing us with words and art the way to simply just keep going! I’m usually a reader of classical literature and much much older poetry but this book is deserving of 5 stars and this is the lunchtime read many of us need. I will pursue acting and poetry till the day I die and this book will always be the one of very few books I’d come back to whenever I need the reminder to keep going! Society does not encourage creative pursuits to the degree that it needs to, and for this reason this will always be one of my most highly valued collections of poetry.
