While most of the students at True Cross Academy head home for the summer break, Rin and his classmates are sent to a training camp in the forest district, and the right to go on a real mission is riding on their performance! Locating and recovering their objectives in the woods is tough and will require teamwork, skill and more than a little magic—and Rin will have to learn to rely on his friends. But is Mephisto masterminding something behind the scenes?!
This volume picks up right where the last one left off and once again, this was incredibly done! Very lightweight but always extremely funny and enjoyable overall. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.
"No intentes solucionar cualquier cosa tú solo.
So Goodreads chewed up my first review. Great. - 3 - And I am kind of lazy to rewrite it so I am going to do point form.
- Remember cliffhanger from last volume? So this volume had a great start. - Love the fighting, teamwork, friendship, and suspense - I love how the series is also very funny. I love Rin's faces xD - Shura is cool. She reminds me of Rangiku from Bleach but more powerful. - I also like Suguro. He is definitely very similar to Rin and you, as the reader, will know he will not be as good as Rin - The survival exam/training thing lasted about 1/2 of the volume and it didn't felt draggy. - A new character, Arthur (who is also from the Vatican) came in this volume. I have to say, I don't like him. He kind of caused a bit of a stir up. - I don't know if Mephisto is good or bad but I don't really care. I don't like his personality. He is like a higher up that plots and plan stuff secretly. He just gives me the chill. - Rin like typical boy main character, is hot headed, ambitious, out of control. It is fun to see him grow and try to control himself. He is so similar to Naruto that I kind of want to hug him...tight. - The last part of the volume was definitely fun to read. We saw a tiny, tiny bit more of Yukio and Shura. (I swear, I will now confess my hidden love for Yukio). - This volume left us with a small cliffhanger. You know the type that makes it just tempting enough for you to want to read the next volume? ;)
Sorry if this is a crappy review. I just really didn't want to re-write my previous review that didn't save. It got stuck on "saving" with the eternal revolving circle of doom. *sigh*
This was a really cool volume! We got to see Rin’s feel like actually has friends only for it to be destroyed because he reveals his Satanic form. Now everything is sad and now he can’t go to classes with them. Rin is actually taking this surprisingly well and he’s really matured from the start of the series. I’m sure that the class will band together and defeat Satan together but it’s still so dramatic and fun! Five out of five stars.

During the test in the forest, a powerful demon named Amaimon attacks the camp, seeking to draw Rin out and use his power. Rin obliges when it's clear that Amaimon is a threat to everyone present, and finally lets his classmates see who he really is. They don’t take it so well. Rin is immediately taken to the Vatican to an Exorcist Court where President Mephisto is on trial for harboring the Son of Satan. He convinces the council to let Rin study to become an exorcist, and they agree. However, Rin only has 6 months to train enough to pass the exam, and he can't use his flame until he passes the exam.
This is probably the biggest narrative shift - that the main cast all knows now that Rin is the Son of Satan. I imagine we’ll have a knock out fight between him and Bon in the next volume because of Bon's history with the Blue Night. Now that Rin has a deadline, this will move the story along and allow for him to actually learn a thing or two instead of just rushing into battle all the time and not being good at exorcism things. We have spent the last three volumes being asked to believe he is great at fighting and really strong, but how much intuitive ability are we supposed to believe?
VIZ's rating is Teen Plus, and so far, the only thing that has merited this rating is Shuri's outfits that barely cover her bits. The action scenes a violence are not overly graphic.
I always forget how good this series is , along with the anime! I picked this up about 4 months after actually getting it (too much manga, too little time ^^;) I had to struggle to remember ALL the character names and spent around an hour remembering the plot so far. This book was quite tense because of the court trial and the thin line between the trust of Rin and his teammates. Also I hope i'm not the only one who thinks that occasionally... Amaimon looks like a unicorn!? I also watch the anime in time with where I get up to in the books and after much deliberation whether to stick with dub (It sounded horrible after one year of not watching) or to go with Netflix's horrible sub job (with many grammar errors... COME ON Netflix... you CAN do better -_-) I love these books and I already have 6&7 on order, yet to arrive DX
It is sort of amazing the difference in pacing between monthly and weekly / bi-weekly releases. It is roughly the same amount of pages in total but it feels like a lot more is crammed into the 55 - 60 pages a monthly release gets. So even though it has only been 15 chapters, it feels like the story has grown quite bit.
A lot more cards are on the table now, with Rin's secret out in the open. Part of me nearly prefers that this happened sooner rather than later since it gives an opportunity to develop the dynamics between him and the rest of the cast better. But on the other hand, it also feels a little impatient on the side of the author.
A very exciting volume that closed out the first arc of the manga. Now everyone knows Rin is a demon and the son of Satan. I wonder what the fallout from that will be? Mephisto seems to be playing for the good guys for now but we shall see how far that goes. A new evil is on the horizon and I'm excited to read the next volumes.
Everyone learns about him being the devil's son. This volume is pretty funny at points, some cool action, some cute panties, and overall a fun time but it felt a little stagnate when it comes to moving the plot forward.
Rin & his friends pass their test as pages(newbie) n now they are exwire - the next second level. They are now in training camp n not just a camp but is a test for them. I think Mephisto used amaimon strength to beat & fight Rin for Rin's training to fight but amaimon took it to far until he destroy the trees in my point of view or Mephisto pov. Rin kept his secret from his friends that he's a king of demon son of blue flame but it got exposed because of amaimon. Rin's friends knows the truth n they avoid eyes contact from Rin. Rin had been train by shura n shura ask Rin to control his flame n using the candles as his training while shura & yukio 😉 in other hand, betting who won or lose. I can still warm up for bon & his two friends who helped Rin to beat amaimon.

I’m quite lazy like Rin, so I want to see him shine so that I can have hope for success too 😅😂😂 Also, Yukio’s so uptight, but his discipline (and great form 😂) is endearing 😍👌

Irónico, ¿no?
Apparently, I either forgot to review volumes 4-7 (or they vanished), I think we can safely assume that the Japanese tendency towards making jokes about large busted females is still there, probably a couple of panty shots if they could get away with it (or was it a bath scene where the girls didn't quite make it to getting undressed all the way...) whatever it was, in Japan it is considered juvenile humor (I mostly consider it boring humor and just move on to the better parts). The violence level is pretty consistently PG-13 in that there is blood, but not guts. There may have been some cursing and the Church is not terribly well-portrayed in all of this...
I knew that what happened in this book was about to come (no spoilers so what I say is very restricted) but I never thought it would break my heart so much. I understand that Bon and the others are now curious and want to be safe but they promised to be with Rin no matter what.
As I said, it made me feel sad and bad.
But I love it because Rin now has new motives and I am really excited to see what is going to happen next. I will read Tokyo Ghoul for Halloween and also Wolf Guy and after October is over, I may read Volume 5!!
