Our Twisted Fates #1

The Curse of the Seelie King

Rate this book
A BETROTHAL LACED WITH LIES
A CURSE NOT EASILY BROKEN
TWO FATES INTERTWINED

Roselyne Vaughn, Princess of Althene, knew any betrothal to her would exist to better serve her father’s kingdom, but she’d never expected a betrothal to him—the ruthless fae king an ocean away.

Declan Danchev, King of the Seelie Fae, is known across the realm for two things—his vicious magic, and how he murdered his father to steal the Seelie throne.

Once they arrive at the Seelie Court’s golden palace in the faelands, Declan reveals that Roselyne is not merely a human, but a witch—a truth she must guard closely.

But the Seelie King carries another secret.

Before the witches disappeared, they cursed Declan, and now his powers are fading. A marriage to a witch will reverse his curse and bring him back to full power.

As the wedding draws nearer, the two work together to master Roselyne's newfound magic as she adapts to her place among the fae, and their initial disdain gives way to fiery passion.

When an attack is levied against Roselyne, Declan must decide what truly matters to him—the woman he was never supposed to love, or the throne he never deserved.

NOTE: THE CURSE OF THE SEELIE KING is book 1 in OUR TWISTED FATES, an adult, multi-POV, steamy fae fantasy romance series for fans of enemies-to-lovers and morally gray love interests.

Grateful to have received an ARC from the author!

I loved this book overall! It had all the things I adore in a fantasy romance: magic, romance, drama, and those swoon-worthy fae guys. The plot was fast-paced and kept me on my toes. I think that the author did a really great job with the world building and character development, and I cannot wait to see how she progresses as an author! This was the perfect book for my escapism.

Plot Summary 📜

A cursed Seelie King must marry a human bride with witch magic in order to break his curse and take back the power that has been hidden from him for the last century. A down on her luck princess of a poor human kingdom has never had much luck in life and is now being sold by her father to the Seelie king for gold to bolster the crown’s coffers.

Review 🤔📝

This was bland. The FMC was not likeable; she flicked her hair, jutted her chin, pouted, whined and thought she was the shit. The MMC had zero personality and when the author tried to make him mysterious or dangerous, it fell flat and was simply not convincing.

The characters and side characters were barely developed. The chemistry between the MCs was not present, we are told it is, but it really isn’t alive on the pages. The MMC “falls first” is literally the author telling us he falls in love with her, but why? how? what reason made him come to this conclusion so early on? We don’t know because it is not illustrated in the story.

The world-building was practically none existent; the magic system is simply not explained; the Fae and their magic is very briefly touched on as is the witch magic, but no further explanations are given.

There was no real drama or action, there was no suspense, or angst; it was simply a whole lot of nothing. I think watching paint dry would have been preferable to reading this non-story.

Verdict 💭

Everything in this book came across as rudimentary. This book tried and failed to masquerade as a fantasy book. It is NOT enemies to lovers in any stretch of the imagination and the MMC is NOT morally grey. Authors think if they put a Fae king and a disgruntled human into a story that it is a guaranteed good read. It really isn’t… you need a solid foundation to build on, an interesting and varied plot with a strong focus to keep the reader engaged, world-building and a comprehensive magic system to make the story work. None of that was in this book. The plot got lost early on and a lacklustre romance was favoured in its place. Unfortunately, this book did not deliver on any level for me.

I got the chance to read this as early (advanced reader/beta copy) and let me say, this story picked me up, spun me around, and then smashed me back into the ground (in the best way possible).

I have not been so enthralled by a plot since reading ACOTAR for the first time. This story picks up fast, immediately thrown into the life of aristocracy, political arrangements, and tension. Chloe Everhart is a master wordsmith, and everything she puts on the page has a purpose.

The spice. 5/5. Holy hell, D*ddy Declan.

The characters? Love my queen Roselyne. Love my king Declan. While I won't spoil it, MOST of the rest can kindly burn in the biggest gaping hole of Hell. Again, this is a good thing. Not so much for my laptop, I almost threw that a handful of times.

If you want to have your heart swell with happiness, break into a million pieces, and then be mended again by the gentle hands of D*ddy Declan, then you need to read this book.

If you enjoy crying, laughing, screaming, and dancing in your seat, read this book.

If you enjoy being sad, also read this book. Same goes for happiness.

I'm looking at you now, reader #90015. You like Fantasy. You like Romance. I'm staring at your infinite TBR of spicy romantasy, and you need to just admit to yourself that you won't ever read that growing pile. Drop it all, and read this book. A S A P.

I was super excited to receive an ARC copy of this book after seeing the author talk about it on TikTok.

Overall I really loved this book. There are many elements of a Beauty & the Beast retelling in The Curse of the Seelie King. As with many retellings, parts of the book were predictable. That didn't make this book any less enjoyable. I really enjoyed the twists at the end, which made this book its own, and look forward to seeing where things go in book 2.

Some things that minorly annoyed me and downgraded my score to a 4:

-- Some of the character names. I wish some of the names had been more creative instead of taking a name and just using a y in it (Alysen, Matylda, Eryk, etc). I felt like these names kind of missed the mark for a fantasy book. Even "Declan" feels strange for a Seelie King's name.

-- Some parts of the book were really well developed and other parts felt like they were rushed. There were some, that I felt were, pivotal scenes that I wish had had more time given to them, even if it made the book a little longer.

-- Sometimes the language in the book was really formal and other times it felt really casual. I wish there were a little more consistency.

That said, all of those things are me just being nitpicky. I really enjoyed this book. I felt like there was a really nice spice to plot ratio. I can't wait for book 2!

♡ Enemies to Lovers
♡ Arranged Marriage
♡ FMC Hidden Powers
♡ He falls first

"I never experienced the sunrise until you smiled at me for the first time."

This is a case of enemies to lovers where the dark, broody, fae king is actually a misunderstood softy but will unalive anyone for her. It doesn't take long for the lovers to start lover-ing.

Seelie King is cursed, he needs a witch, Roselyne fits the bill. There are histories or war and rivalry that we don't get much info on but are supposed to hold a great deal of weight for the outcome of the story. I'm hoping we get to see more of that in book two.

"Roselyne, for as long as my wretched heart beats-it is yours."

Declan and Roselyne are a swoon worthy couple. I just eat up a MMC that is absolutely obsessed with the FMC.

The ending was predictable, but that didn't really take away from the book.

✨ ARC review ✨

i received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

i really loved reading this book! i did feel like there were some disconnects between some of the characters and i wished there was a little more world building but i still loved it nonetheless and will of course recommend it to friends! i loved the map at the beginning of the book, and the plot twist at the end definitely left me wanting more. i cannot wait to see where the author will take us in book 2!

I was so excited to receive this book early as an ARC and all these thoughts are completely my own and honest!! With that…let’s begin :)
This truly had all the tropes I love: enemies to lovers, touch her you die, human in fae land…etc. There’s definitely enough world building for you to completely know wha the going on without being too overwhelmed (and there’s a MAP 🥰). Feisty princess gets sold off to the scary and ruthless fae king who is known for being evil and cunning (how dreamy ;) ) but she quickly finds he is not so awful as everyone says he is. I mean Declan did not HESITATE to break ever bone in a man’s body who disrespected his woman…but he was kind to his people and had a soft side he only showed to those close to him. She immediately finds out that she’s a witch and I was like oh wow that was soon but JUST WAIT ITS NOT ALL. I loved the developing relationship between the two characters and it was a LITTLE insta-lovey but I have no problem with that :). The only thing is I WISH after Roselyn found out about the curse and thought she was being used and he really didn’t love her I wish Declan was forced to grovel like a LITTLE MORE. like his one stipulation to her was that they wouldn’t get married and she could trust him again then the next chapter they were gonna get married anyways :p I’m a SUCKER for groveling men so that’s probably why lol. Overall, I didn’t expect who the evil person was in the story and did not expect it to take the twist that it does!! This book doesn’t even officially come out yet and I want the second story already 😭😭
Overall I truly LOVED this book and can’t wait for more (I wish it would let me give half stars so it would’ve been 4.5 only because I wish some of the scenes weren’t so rushed and grievances weren’t forgiven so easily)

A huge shoutout to the author! I was lucky and very thankful to receive an ARC of this book 💖

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and 🌶️-3.5

Overall, I was super happy with this book! I thought that it was a great combination of history/lore, romance/spice, conflict, and some fluff in there as well. The romance was paced out perfectly which I loved. I often find that the build up of the relationship is too rushed and it’s hard to do it well. The author crushed it though and the spice was solid and more than I was initially expecting which is always an amazing discovery.

I do wish that the explanation of the magic system was a bit more detailed. We get bits of it throughout the book and I just want to understand it better, especially Declan’s magic.

No spoilers but there was a cliffhanger but I am definitely looking forward to reading the second book 🎉

I have been waiting MONTHS for this book and I am so thankful I was able to receive an ARC read from author Chloe Everhart.

Overall I thought this was a great book! Magic, romance, spice, conflict, sexy fae men. Everything I look for in a fictional fantasy romance. I’m super nitpicky about pacing when it comes to books, and I will say it was a little fast for me but I ended up not minding it so much as I really enjoyed the world and the characters.

The one thing that did throw me off a bit was that the names didn’t really seem to fit the fantasy-type setting. For example, for me the name Declan doesn’t quite fit into the Seelie King vibe. That being said I quite enjoyed this book, and there was just the right amount of spice to plot ratio!

I’m super thankful to the author for this arc read and I can safety say I will be reading book 2!

main characters are quite bland overall, they don't seem to have much in terms of personality aside from the stereotypical princess that doesn't want to get married and hot guy™️. and the relationship between them is just unbearable, like it goes hot and cold seemingly without any particularly strong driving forces, their dialogue and banter is annoying, they have no chemistry at all. it really gives the impression that the author just wants them to get together but there's no tension, no build up, and the build up that is there is prematurely wasted on them being horny.

the writing itself feels quite disjointed and does a lot of telling (rather than showing), which makes it difficult to keep track of character motivations and events going on in the book. it does alternate perspectives between Rosalyne and Declan, but it doesn't benefit the story at all, imo it takes away from the book. there's so little world building due to the fact that Rosalyne's first few days in the Seelie capital is written from Declan's perspective. There's no struggling to adjust, no culture shock, and when we do see Rosalyne breakdown from the stress it's all from Declan's perspective and it feels like it comes out of nowhere despite him stating that it's likely due to the stress of her being removed from her home.

and at this point i can't bring myself to care about the plot because the plot is so connected to the world, but there's nothing there for me to invest myself in. it feels like there aren't any stakes, and i already don't care about the characters that much. there's nothing to hang on to here so i might as well just let go.

I loved this book. I found Chloe on booktok and added her book to my TBR. As a mood reader, i dont always get to book’s immediately. I finished this one in two days!

I adore Declan. I love a fiercely loyal MMC that doesn’t try to squish the FMC power, but wants to teach her to embrace it.

I liked the flow of the story line. It gave me the twist and turns that I like. I was able to catch a vibe on a couple of the characters that ended up being accurate, but i wont go into detail.

Tropes: arranged marriage, he fell first, enemies to lovers, touch her and 💀, & hidden power

Overall, i really enjoyed this book and im really looking forward to be second one!!

This book has everything I look for in a fantasy book, Fae, magic, ancient prophecy, arranged marriages, betrayal, and enemies to lovers! The world building is very well written and paced well throughout the book.

Roselyne is the princess of the human world Athlene and she finds out her father has arranged a marriage with the ruthless Fae Seelie King. She will be shipped to him in two weeks time or so she thinks. Declan has traveled to gather his bride on his own terms and collects her to ensure she arrives to his kingdom without problems. Roselyne is more than she appears to be and there is a prophecy that says the two are fated to be together to break the Seelie Kings curse!

I cannot wait to read book two after that ending!!!!

I was captivated by this book immediately. It pulled me in and I loved every moment of it. My only grievance? It just released today and it left on the largest cliffhanger that ripped my heart to shreds.

That’s all that I can manage to post for my review. Read this book and let it ruin you, too. Easily one of my 2023 top 10s.

I got to read this book as an ARC reader. I really enjoyed this book! The world building was great and I fell in love with the characters quickly. The pace was fairly fast some people love it some people don’t 🤷🏼‍♀️
My one critique is there was some foreshadowing in the beginning with the main characters past that were never resolved. We were briefly told about both of their first loves/heartbreak and literally nothing comes from it. It 100% might be writing for the next book, but I could easily see how it could have been incorporated into this book, but it wasn’t.
Overall though I loved the book and can’t wait for what else Chloe had in store!

Beauty& the beast retelling, But with Fae
Enemies to lovers.
Lots of sexy spicy tension
And betrayal
Possessive Alpha A-hole, but has a sweet side MC only for FC. FC sweet and funny sassy. Both main characters are hard headed. And oh boy you can cut the sexual tension with a butter knife. I couldn't put this book down I was very invested in it

A solid 4.5 stars for this book!

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book through Book Funnel.

I appreciate how Chloe gave us a map and plenty of descriptions so I could imagine the scenery and characters while reading. While I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will preorder the second, I wish that the characters didn't forgive each other so easily.
Other than that one thing, I view this as a "comfort" fantasy. Once the characters get introduced you know how they're going to be because it's typical (which isn't bad!) but I wasn't able to guess the plot or twist coming. I knew something was...I knew what it would involve (because duh, it's the book title), but I was still surprised and kept on my toes.

Thanks to Chloe for letting me have an eARC for her book ❤️

I did not expect to finish this today but I simply cannot put it down!

The small details laid out during the world building was so amazing and sure I did guess the actual villain in this story but I still liked how everything was done.

The words that Declan speaks though. God the words! Not only is the dirty talk present but some of his declarations are bridgerton level guys!

Got the chance to read this ARC before the release and let me tell you I LOVED IT. It's such a wonderful easy to read and understand fantasy with some great spice to it. The only thing I'd have loved more is the "fights" or "issues" in the book to be a tad deeper and take up more of the book. The fights felt a bit too washed over for me to understand their love for each other as deeply as I think I could have.

Thank you to the author for an eARC of this book in exchange for honest feedback.

Overall I genuinely liked this book. I thought it was very well-written (didn't feel like YA to me), solid plot with attention-holding mystery, good angst/sexual tension/spice between FMC and MMC. I enjoyed the "he fell first and is now obsessed, but can't explain it" vibe, and I thought it was well done, because sometimes it just isn't done well, haha. I loved the dual POV of Declan and Roselyne. It made it easy to understand both of their thoughts and feelings throughout the books. I find it boring to just read in the FMC's POV-only a lot of times. Plus it's been done so much at this point, so the dual is always nice to read.

I really appreciated the map, always love a good one. And this is book 1 of what will be a series, so the map is kind of setting us up for later scenarios. I like that.

I loved Declan's patient and content nature with Roselyne! He was such a sweetheart! Really that classic morally-grey villain/mate who will burn the world for her that we all know and love. He's all like "I'm pretty sure I love this woman and would love to screw her into oblivion, but if all she wants is to just sit next to me on a couch and not hate me for the rest of our lives, I'm TOTALLY fine with just that." Then he goes and gives us some Chp 55-style lines, melted my heart. And of course I loved that he finds it hot as hell that Roselyne wants to learn to fight and defend herself (which, HELL YEA ma'am!). Definitely giving Rhysand/Casteel vibes fo sho. I found Roselyne's character to be decent. I liked her spunk in terms of retort towards Declan and such and her determination to be able to protect herself, but I thought she came up a little short in the "being able to read people" department. She seemed like an intelligent woman, but she also just made some flat out stupid decisions, which kinda turned me off.

I was a little disappointed with the level of spice and just the overall amount, especially since the tension between the MCs was so high prior to them finally getting together. I enjoyed what was there, but there was like a week long fade-to-black after their first "coupling" and I was just like, "Ummm hello?? Where is the good stuff?? Did my ARC copy miss a whole chapter or something??" I really wanted more. They just seemed so hot together and what we did get of them was indeed fire, but I really thought there was going to be more with the build-up that we were given in the beginning. Also, maybe it was just me, but I was kinda hoping for something to happen between Kera and Roselyne...*sexy side-eye* Kera was giving big sapphic energy and I was all ready to root for the MFF triangle that transitions into a relationship *big smiles*. Alas, not in this book. *looking at the author hopefully* hahaha! But I did really enjoy Kera as a side character and I would have loved for her to have had more screen time!

I thought it took a little too long to get to the revelations of the mystery of Roselyne's "magic". Not to mention it seemed to be such an afterthought for a large portion of the book. Once it was revealed, I thought the nature of her magic was not really explained all that well, and that whole scene just felt incredibly rushed (I mean she WAS on an actual time crunch in the story), then she was just all of a sudden able to use it after not being able to the whole book...so maybe more will get fleshed out in book 2. Her own character was still pretty confused, so I guess we will just have to wait and see. Certain character revelations I saw coming, others I did not, but I should have, haha! I also thought the scene where

The very end definitely was something I wasn't expecting, but then again, it definitely made for an exciting setup for the next book.

If you're looking for something with ACOTAR or FBAA vibes, then this will definitely give it to you, but in a slightly more diluted format I'd say. Still a solid Fae tale...I would for sure read book 2 to see where things go. 🤙🏼💕

** I received a free ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **

I really wanted to love this book, and I did enjoy reading it! The bones of a good story are there, the spice was honestly really great, and the plot twist with Sloane was totally unexpected. The author's prose/writing style was quite nice - descriptive and lovely without being too much or becoming distracting. In the end this one is getting 3 stars because I really just needed MORE. More character development for the MC's individually, more development of the MC's relationship with each other and with minor characters, more development of the magic system and the gods/goddesses they worship.

The relationship between Roselyne and Declan has so much potential, but I was left feeling like there was a disconnect between the pace the relationship developed in the story and the grand professions of love that the MC's make to each other. At one point Declan says Roselyne "crashed into my life undoing everything I'd known for a century" but at that point, for the reader (or at least for me), it feels like the two have hardly interacted, let alone got to know each other well enough to be saying something like that. Even the friendships between Roselyne and other characters like Kera and Essie felt kind of rushed - like they went from being strangers to being friends really quickly, without much happening to show the reader that friendship developing.

There are some dangling plot points that left me kind of puzzled and that I wish had received some more time and attention in the story:

Roselyne apparently heals Declan after the fight with Sloane in the woods, but I don't think it was ever really explored how exactly that happened. It felt like one minute Roselyne was crying over him dying in the woods and the next he was waking up in his bed with a big scar, with nothing really tying those two scenes together.

What was Essi's role in Sloane's scheme? It wasn't clear to me that she intentionally sent Roselyne into the forest because was in cahoots with Sloane. I thought maybe Sloane had made her think that there really WAS some kind of accident or something. But then she flees the palace, and it seems like she did intentionally betray Roselyne and Declan.

Near the end we get Roselyne saying that she "grew frailer with each new day" after her death/being able to access her powers. That could be a great cliffhanger in itself, but then the plot takes a hard left turn to a threat of war because Roselyne's father was killed and the people of Althene think that The Ruthless King did it. I think whatever is going on with Roselyne's new power and the effect it is having on her could have been fleshed out a bit more so it wasn't left feeling like an afterthought to the war looming on the horizon.

All that to say, I still enjoyed the read and will probably read the next book, as well. I think there is a LOT of potential here and I will enjoy seeing how this author grows and develops and how her story will grow along with her.

Congratulations, Chloe, on your debut novel. It was great and I can't wait for the next books to come. Thank you for choosing me for the eARC copy.

I enjoyed this book a lot. It has a lot of action, secrets, betrayals, arranged marriage, exploding twist, and a hell of a cliffhanger. There were some scenes/emotions that felt a little rushed, but the pace of the story is good and it feels good to skip the drama :))

I like Roselyne because she let herself live. Yes, she was in a strange land, but she took it as an opportunity to finally live and I was so happy Declan gave her the freedom to learn how to defend herself and didn't lock her inside. I was kind of mad when Declan decided to keep that part of the truth from her and I was .

Kara is amazing. I loved her from the first moment she entered the book. I actually choked when I read Callum's name :)) This is what happens when you read Blood and Ash too many times. One name and my first thought was "can we trust him?" :))) but yes, he is spectacular and I wonder if something will happen between him and Kara.

Now, I suggest this to be read only by the author and those who already read the book. I will mark it as a spoiler, but if you decide to read it, remember, it was your choice!!!! So yes, in the beginning, it started as suspicions, but after some of their actions, I was 100% sure they are traitors.

THAT ENDING! WOW!!! That twist in fate was mind-blowing and I have a feeling the world-building and character growth will be amazing. I hope Umbrath will appear more in the next books. He spoke 0 words, but I fell for him. I have a feeling history is not how they know it and a lot of things will go ballistic, and I can't wait for it.

Congratulations, Chloe on your debut novel. I can't wait to see more of your work.

First and foremost, I would like to thank Chloe for selecting me as part of her ARC readers. I am sorry that I wasn’t able to finish the book in a timely manner, but I thought I would review it now that I finally finished it.

Overall rating: ⭐️⭐️.5
Spice: 🌶️🌶️

Here is an overview of my personal rating system:
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ all time favorite (would totally reread)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ really good book
⭐️⭐️⭐️ enjoyed the book
⭐️⭐️ finished it, wouldn’t recommend it`
⭐️ did not like it, dnf

For a bit of context: Roselyne is the princess of a human kingdom who finds herself forced to marry a terrible fae king as part of a treaty between her people and the fae. This alliance is supposed to solve all the conflicts between their races. Once she reaches her betrothed’s kingdom, she finds out that she is not totally human and quickly falls in love with her intended who keeps hiding a secret from her: she is the only one who can break the curse diminishing his powers. The book has a dual POV, some chapters are narrated by Roselyne and others by the Seelie King, Declan and includes several of the popular tropes that I love: enemies to lovers, morally gray characters, etc.

I really wanted to love this book. I was hooked for the first part of the book and devoured about half of it in two days, but I ended up loosing interest. Then I picked it up two months later and finished the last hundred pages in a day. I am a big fan of the enemies to lovers trope and I thought that the romance between Declan and Roselyne was too easy. They are supposed to hate each other, but it’s almost as if they fall in love instantly. While the spice in this book was very good, the steam between the two MCs overshadowed the plot. I am a big fan of slow-burns, so that was definitely not it for me.

As a whole, the book left me with a hunger . The romance was too easy. The worldbuilding was not there. The magic was somewhat interesting. The plot twist was obvious and a bit cliché for me. The ending was rushed and, again, too easy. The writing was however very pretty and enjoyable. At the end of the day, while I really loved the spice, I feel like the author should have given more attention to some scenes that were emotional and important to the plot instead of having the MCs thirsting for each other.

The book does leave us on a bit of a cliffhanger with , but I am simply not sure yet if I will be reading the next book yet.

Though this is a dual POV book I didn't see relationships formed on the King's part. Instead Declan's relationships just are. He is supposed to be morally grey and exuding the touch-her-and-you'll-die trope. Tragically, his bravado comes across as just baseless chitty-chat. He tortures someone because they "tried to harm what is [his]". He's described as a monster (that word is overused so much in the first chapters). "On the streets, people whispered that Declan was ruthless". All these words are supposed to make him sound scary. Instead he comes across as a declawed kitty cat.

I couldn't even understand why the few people that are the closest to him liked him. Most of his conversations with them are him giving orders. "'Speak now,' I commanded." He talked to his brother like that.
I couldn't see how he was a friend. There were places that could have been built to show that he loved those closest to him but it doesnt go that deep. I couldn't even see how he was a king, because he doesn't have any conversations with his subjects.

Roselyne's relationships were slightly formed with a couple people. Thus, she was more realistic.

The whole story is them interacting with maybe five people. How is she or he in charge of a kingdom that they don't interact with. Sure, Declan knows a woman in charge of a brothel, and that's where he tortures people. In their one interaction, he doesn't even talk to her. There's also a scene where Roselyne is in the market and talks to a fortune teller. So both characters get one short scene interacting with the people they rule.

The book is very repetitive. As in the same sentences feel nearly copy and pasted:

In one scene Roselyne is thinking something. Then a paragraph or so later Kera says the exact thing aloud. Same wording. She can't read Roselyne's thoughts but they both happen to use the same lingo despite one being a faerie and the other growing up as a human on the other side of the ocean.

Roselyne and Declan have walked back to her room and she "placed her back against her door". A paragraph later she "leaned her back against her door". Her back was already against her door.

Even their intimate scenes are repetitive. Didn't matter if they were chapters apart, the same words are used. "stars burst across my vision" when they're making out in the stacks and chapters later when their torso's collide in a cave.

Declan's brother is an "overt womanizer" and Roselyne hope's that he will "be gentle with Essi's heart." Same thing several pages later.

In some places the storyline doesn't line up. In one scene Callum rushes Roselyne back to Declan. Then Declan gets her inside and is making sure she is okay. They're talking and Declan says "I've sent Callum back to the city to investigate." When!? You literally rushed her inside and have been talking to her this whole time.

This book allowed me to easily visualize the writer sitting down and writing this, instead of me being able to immerse myself in a story and feel like the characters are living it.
