The truth, like love, can be elusive, unless you're willing to fight for it.
Sparks fly when two top notch attorneys battle each other in the high risk arena of the courtroom, but when a strange turn of events thrusts one of them from the role of advocate to witness, prosecutor Ryan Foster and defense attorney Brett Logan join forces in their search for the truth. Working together they quickly learn their attraction to each other is as strong as their commitment to justice, but courthouse romance is not without complications. Throw in a murder case with bizarre twists and turns, and even the strongest attraction will be put to the test.
Carsen Taite's goal as an author is to spin plot lines as interesting as the cases she encountered in her career as a criminal defense lawyer. She is the award-winning author of a dozen novels and numerous short stories.
Interesting and decent enough... Not much of a battle going on in court between Brett and Ryan.. Second half of the book was definitely better as the plot unfold...
I really enjoyed this! I'm actually surprised by some of the reviews, I thought they were a bit harsh. This had and interesting crime drama, with some good twists and turns. It was well written, and the romance was decent. The only part about the romance that I didn't agree with... I thought they used the "L word" too quickly. I think the characters were more at the "I really like you" beginning stage of their relationship. Taite just forced it a bit too quickly to be totally believable. Seems to be due to book length. In fact, there are a few story-lines that could be continued into another book. Anyway, if you've liked other Carsen Taite books, you will enjoy this. I'm glad I read it and would recommend it to others.
I think Carsen Taite does better with books that have criminal cases as opposed to her purely romance ones. Her lawyer characters always seem to have more sparks between them.
Two things I noticed about this author - One is that she loves to throw in car accidents to turn the romance around. Not sure if I like it repeated in so many books. - Two, her books always end too soon. Main characters usually spend the first half of the book slowly building the romance. The second half will be about them giving themselves 101 reasons why they can't be together. Then the final 2 pages will be about them getting together. I would really like to see what happens after they become a couple. And I mean an actual book, and not as some side character to another story.
Really enjoyed this one. I thought the side story of Ryan's secret was a little odd, but by the end I understood why it was there. I'm hoping we see them again in a later book because I want to know how that situation was resolved in the long term.
With each one of this author's books, I always find myself thinking the most recent is her best. After reading "Nothing But the Truth," I still do. This books delivers what I've come to expect from Carsen Taite, a plot with a lot of twists and turns. If anything, it has more twists than any of her previous books. But it's the characters that put this one above the others. They are enticing and well developed. With this one, Carsen has earned a spot on my "must read everything she writes" list.
It was a pretty decent read. Good balance of plot, character development, romance and action. I had a problem with the character Ryan. She was kinda hard to like and I had trouble relating to her. It could just be me but I felt her character was kinda 'cliche' and it turned me off a little. All in all a very good read though, I would definitely recommend it! Some good sexy time in it but not over the top. I'd actually rate it T for teen.
4.3 star ratings The author presents her knowledge so pleasurable that as a reader you feel you are on the set of a Legal or police related film or series. Normally i usually favour one main character over the other but in this case both score equally. The legal, intrigues, chase and final closure all had me determined to finish this today....a price i certainly will pay for.
I found the whole 'sex party' stuff really unsettling for some reason. I usually don't have a problem with kinky and twisted, but even though this wasn't graphic at all, it just left me feeling very uncomfortable. I can't really articulate why, which frustrates me, a lot. I guess partly because the revelations later in the book about were being foreshadowed from the very first encounter? Also, it seemed really out of character. I get that it was intended to be incongruent, an escape from her normal facade, but taking into account her internal dialog and the character overall, it still felt really out of place.
I feel badly rating it so low, because if those things didn't have that unsettling effect on me, this would be a solid 4. I just couldn't get past it.
It’s 4 and not 5 stars because the end was rushed, too many things happening and not real explanation. 2/3 of the book was almost excruciatingly detailed with legalese and main characters’s thoughts, so that end didn’t add up. I like the books of this author, she’s good and I hope she’ll be willing to put more pages that are consistent with the rest when wrapping up next book
Even though I enjoyed reading this book it left me with unanswered questions. Like what happened to Ann Rawlings? Did Leonard get what's coming to him? Did they catch Detective Kim? Did Brett come forward with what roll she played in?
Now this was more like it. I enjoyed the court room drama and the cases. I thought I'd pegged it at one point but I got it really wrong, which was great. The characters were 3D and came to life. I enjoyed their interaction and dialogue. Everything felt pretty realistic. I did spot a couple of typos and the last page was a bit cheesy, but I can forgive that because the rest of it was a great read. I couldn't put it down and read through half the night. I'll definitely be reading more by Carsen Taite. Another to add to my favourite author list.
The synopsis on the Boldstrokes website is: “The truth, like love, can be elusive, unless you're willing to fight for it.

I've not read anything by Carsen Taite prior to this book but I will plan on reading more. I liked the storyline and the way the characters developed but I especially enjoyed the fact that while I was reading it I thought I knew who was behind the mystery/murder and I was totally wrong.
That the author knows a thing or two about the legal world is something you wouldn't doubt even without that being noted in the acknowledgements. What she doesn't know about is how to craft a believable love story. Two women meet, spend barely any personal time together and fall in love, even though the actions of one woman more or less disgusts the other. The mystery wasn't enough to make up for the flaws in the relationship storyline. I don't think I'll be reading this author again.
Ms Taite wrote a book that was better than I expected it to be. Although it was not a big bad shoot 'em up, it did have good guys and bad guys with a love story in the seams. It was mostly a legal lesbian drama, but if you like this sort of story, this is a good book to read
Whilst I liked the leads, relaxed and gorgeous Brett and cool, uptight Ryan (and their androgynous names) I found the story bogged down in the case and the legalese which forms the premise of the story. For the most part. The other interesting aspect of the story evolves in tandem and revolves around Ryan's suspect personal (sexual) choices. Brett has to reckon with the discovery as does Ryan. The story would up with an interesting conclusion, one I haven't really encountered in other stories. Whilst I appreciate that to some extent, the morality of Ryan's choices was left with the reader to ponder, I would have liked a more in depth resolution with the characters themselves. There was a lot to like with the characters' inner dialogue and chemistry but as I approached the end I was sort of wondering what was really going on and did I really care.
I like the intricate storylines and the way the author weaved them all together. Both main characters were workaholics and it was interesting to see how they mixed the personal and professional.
