Discover the ghostly past of America's first state, Delaware. Fact or fiction, these stories document a legendary relationship between the state and the other world. Just be sure all the lights in the house are turned on while reading!
This little book was published in 2000, when its author Caroline Woods, today nationally regarded for her novel The Mesmerist, was only 16. It is impressively well-written and engaging, and includes several incidences of alleged paranormal activity not found in similar Delaware books I've read, such as those by Josh Hitchens. However, there is no distinction made between the accounts from real people and what may be entirely the imagination of Woods herself. The names that appear in "The Grandfather Clock," "Aunt Billie," "A Scream on the Shore," "The House on 6th Street," and "Shannon's Ring" are not on her list of interview subjects; also, several of those pieces read very much like conventional ghost stories. If she ever decides to release a new edition, this should be clarified.
I enjoyed this book, but was disappointed with its brevity. When I got to the author's page, I was impressed to realize that the author was in high school when she wrote it. Well done, Caroline Woods!
