Jackie Ivie was born and raised in a suburb outside Utah's capital, beautiful Salt Lake City. The second in a family of four daughters and one son, Jackie was constantly amusing her siblings with her invented games, escapades, and stories. And she was always reading. She would even walk the family dog, with one hand holding the leash, while the other held the ever-present book. No subject went unread, but once she discovered Historical Romances, there was no doubting her favorite genre.
Jackie has always been the busy type, rarely sitting still without being occupied in at least one activity, and usually more. When she was younger, it was nothing to find her watching television, while doing her homework, listening to music, crocheting like a madwoman, and reading, all at the same time.
After graduating, Jackie gained secure employment with a large service company and relocated with her growing family to the neighboring, sparsely-populated state of Wyoming. She then spent several years enjoying the wildlife, scenery, and open space that Wyoming is known for. In addition to writing, Jackie is an accomplished artist in several mediums, preferring mixed media. She has several pictures in print and has exhibited in art showings throughout the West. There was never anything she loved doing more than reading, however, and once she discovered the thrill involved with putting her own words and fantasies on paper there was no stopping her.
In 2001, Jackie and her family took a huge step and moved to the largest state of the nation; Alaska. Although it was her job that brought her here, Jackie has grown to love this land of amazing contrasts, breathtaking vistas, and the ever-present resident, the Alaskan moose. There's nothing else like it, and the very long days of summer lend themselves to hours and hours of energizing tasks, while the long winter nights are just right for her real love...writing.
Jackie has now written thirteen novels and is continually starting more. The thrill of writing has now been enhanced by seeing her actual story in print. Lady of the Knight is her first published work. It will be followed by Tender is the Knight scheduled for release this summer.
Decent historical romance (rather light on the history), with lots of steamy attraction between the Scottish hero, Aidan, and the secretly English heroine, Juliana.
Aidan rarely wears a shirt, and various situations require Juliana to be frequently pressed against his brawny chest. There's a big castle, a potential fiancee for Aidan who must be placated, some witches, and a scheming uncle, but mostly, there's steamy sex between Juliana and Aidan.
Favorite Lines: "You probably even...sag." He dropped his eyes to her bodice, leaving her no excuse to misinterpret what he said. (p. 303, ARC)
Knight Everlasting is a historical, Scottish romance written by Jackie Ivie. The book is set in Scotland AD 1297.
When Highland laird Aidan MacKetryck sees Sassenachs demolishing a small Scottish village, he does the only thing he can...scoops up a village woman and runs. Thus begins an emotional journey between two very different people.
There is so much to like about Knight Everlasting. The instant sexual chemistry between the hero and heroine is evident in the first chapter. The banter between characters is enlightening and at times funny. There were a variety of characters: the liar, harem, secretive heroine, brash hero and castle witch. Some of them worked better than others, but my personal favorite was the liar. He always had something to say and watching him put a spin on everything was entertaining.
However, there were a few things that didn't quite work for me. I felt like I didn't really know the hero. He came across as playful and benevolent at the beginning of the book. Actually, I didn't have a clue as to his real position because he acted like he had no authority. He allowed his men to talk trash about him. He explained his reasons for doing so, but it was odd. Later he's described as and lives up to labels like rash and reckless. Aidan didn't really have any hero qualities. I thought of him as a "regular" guy who happened to be rich. I never thought of him as alpha, and after reading about "his women" I was disgusted enough to not want much to do with him.
I also had a hard time coming to terms with the mystical aspect of the story. I didn't see the point of including it at all. I get having a witch make predictions, but I didn't like the addition of magic to my historical romance. It's definitely not what I thought I was getting when I decided to read the book.
The last major "hmmm" moment I had was at the conclusion of the story. My suspension of belief crumbled. I didn't believe for a minute that the hero didn't know the heroine's big secret and that he was capable of putting it aside as easily as he did.
In the end, the negative and positive aspects of the story almost canceled each other out. I was a little disappointed with the story, but I didn't hate or love Knight Everlasting. I really don't feel anything about it.
That was an awful read. I’ve never regretted wasting $3 as I did now. It was too detailed. I kept searching for the dialogue in each chapter, and believe me when I say that it was a hard chore. It lacks consistency, and the characters were just.. flat.
Do not buy this book. If it was a free read then I won’t stop you. But please please don’t waste your money on it.
“Rash, reckless, thoughtless” Laird Aidan MacKetryck rescues Jullianna D. Aubenville, but Julianna vows he stole her. Pressed close together to hide from the enemy, Julianna feels sensations new to her while Aidan’s body and mind ignite with a desire like he has never before known, testing his self-control to the limit.
Aidan, no stranger to women, attributes the super charge of sexual desire to their near-death experience. He never felt such a need to possess a woman and deems it to be unhealthy and unbelievable. He recognizes she is a well-born, but assumes she belongs to the MacDonal clan. He doesn’t know she is one of the hated English.
While Juliana doesn’t understand her sexual response to Aidan, she does know how to survive. She and the steward, who had been killed in the foray that killed many of Aidan’s men, had escaped Fyfen Castle when Julianna’s father and all the household had been murdered. She survived the cold winter in a leaky croft, foraged for food, and disguised her identity. Stubborn, head-strong, quick-witted, and with a wicked tongue, she stands her ground with the barbaric Highlanders and patiently waits to escape. She withstands the rigorous traveling, the culture shock, the emotional growing pains that change her from the sheltered, well-brought-up English young lady to a passionate, independent-thinking woman who loves the volatile Laird Aidan Ketryck in spite of herself.
Secondary characters add a viciousness to life at the massive, impregnable Castle Ketryck. The “Black” Ketryck, Aidan’s uncle, plots against Aidan, Dame Lileth Fallaine-Dumphat works her magic (scary!) that augments intrigues, while Lady Reina works her special magic with Julianna—adorns her with scents and clothes that mesmerize the people at the feast. The many castle inhabitants who get caught up in the uncle’s machinations and Aidan’s determination to protect Julianna at all cost create adrenaline-pumping events that hold the reader spellbound.
Jackie Ivie is a fantastic story teller. Her descriptions of extreme emotion, whether it is a fight to the death or love making that transports to heavenly ecstasy, give the reader a vicarious experience in the thirteenth century Highlands where life was hard and the people who survived lived only by embracing extreme measures. Ms.Ivie weaves superstitions, humor of the time, unique customs of the Highlanders, and the unending struggle to hold on to power into Knight Everlasting, as she assails the reader’s senses and revs up the heartbeat with sensational loves scenes. WOW!
KNIGHT EVERLASTING by Jackie Ivie 10/11 - Kensington Publishing Corporation - Mass Market Paperback, 352 pages
What is it that makes me love you – desire or magic?
There is some discrepancy about whether Juliana was kidnapped, saved, or outright captured by Aiden Niall MacKetryck, laird of Clan MacKetryck. With her village burning to the ground and everyone slaughtered Juliana knew that Aiden was her salvation and while she did not want to go with him she had to.
The travel was brutal but the warmth of Aiden’s arms around her made the trip a touch more bearable. Juliana does not want to like him but is drawn to him, and he to her even though they are different in every way possible, the one defining feature that mattered was attraction. Neither understood why they were so captivated by one another and every moment, with every kiss, asking why am I with you?
Aiden takes Juliana to his castle, and proclaims her as his and will fight anyone that defies the Laird. Many women have taken care of Aiden in the past but only Juliana will satisfy his needs forever more. Disregarding other obligations and predictions by others Aiden fights for his right to have Juliana all to himself and tries to figure out how to make that happen.
I have been following and reading Jackie Ivie books for a very long time. Jackie has taken me to places of magic and mayhem with such flair and wonderful descriptions that it is like seeing these places with my own eyes. The characters jump out at you and scream for attention that you gladly give them because they are so fascinating. I look forward to many more books to read, as they are always a treat.
This is a well written and gripping tale of the Scottish Highlands. Juliana and Aiden are of similar status but from wildly different backgrounds. Aiden seems to have a real problem with reckless behavior, and Juliana suffers as a result, even though he makes things right in his own way. His youngest brother, Arran, could teach him a lot, as long as he stays away from the Killoran ale. Danger and passion bring Juliana and Aiden together and they fall in love, and like in the best historical romances, love conquers all but not without a lot of drama and uncertainty and a certain amount of danger. I especially loved the dynamic between the Red McKetryck and the Black McKetryck and the two clan seers were colorful and informative.
The ONLY thing I lie about this novel is the setting of Historical Scottish Romance , but other than that book was poorly written, plot keeps jumping from one flow to another making the ENTIRE novel disjointed and making this book pages full of blur and blah .
I have read a book from Jackie Ivie before so I do know that she is able to write a good story line but this book felt unplanned and rushed to be sent for publish and due to a fact that this is a stand alone book makes it all the more worst that story has no spark at all .
I would have given this book a 0 rating due to the jumble of words I have just red through but because I love the time period setting of Scottish Historical Romance this boosted its rating to a 1 star rating .
I finished it and that was a chore. I got about 2/3's of the way through the book and realized I had no idea what the end game of the book was. There was no arch and I don't feel the characters were fully developed or why they were doing the things they were doing. It also turned out that the main character was English nobility and that seemed to be swept under the rug discussed only on the last couple of pages.
The author was also a fan of the single word sentence. Annoying. Overused. Tiring. :)
There is magic and love in this book. I was waiting on a ledge more time then once through this novel. It took me no time at all to read it, I couldn't put it down. Aiden hates the English but falls for an English lass. They drive each other nuts and try very hard to stay away from each other but there is no denying that they have a destiny. Great book and would suggest it as a read if you a romance buff.
so what happens when a lass meets a man who tries to rescue her ,. but what secret does she hold and who is she really . and can sparks fly and can her rescuer keep her or must he let her go and wed another . find this and much more when you buy or use KU SO AS I HAD TO READ this exciting story love men in kilts giggles better way of well i will let you take a guess at why but anyways i will be reading more of these stories so stay tuned to more
I really did not like this book. It was slow and the plot kept jumping around and I could barely keep track of what was going on. Also the way that the prose was written it made it very hard for me to even figure what was going on within the scene I was reading.
I was hoping for a lot more from this book, but the story was confusing and there were times I just couldn't figure out what was going on. The red haze and other plot lines were very difficult to follow.
The story jumped around and it seemed disjointed. The way the main lead male was written, he was like a bull in a china shop.Too much sex without any real purpose to the story.
for some reason I found the writing in Knight Everlasting confusing, mostly the scenes with Aidan, dealing with his lust, despair over his marriage commitments.
