Developed with the cooperation of a science consultant, this book in the Primary Physical Science series is a tool to teach the physical sciences to young children. From bicycles to bridges to beaver dams, structures are all around us. Build It! explores the function of structures, the materials they're made of, how their parts are joined together and more.
A good little book for younger children to teach them about the basics of structures. It engages them throughout, having them test what they have learned and think beyond what they are told.
I like how explanations were first provided, then different kinds of examples, and then finally questions to reinforce the newly learned topics, featuring the very colorful/bright illustrations. The activities were good, too, though a little messy. The design of the book is also well done and inviting.
I like this book because it shows a variety of different structures and how they relate to a child's everyday life. The bright, colorful pictures are also a draw and lyrical writing make the text really fun. I would caution using this text beyond second grade as it was a little too "kiddy" for the rigor my students were used too.
