The definitions of good and evil become confused by the powerful forces of an alternate United States when a Weretiger, a shaman, two kids, and a scientist meet in a deadly confrontation. Original.
Nyx Smith’s worldbuilding is pretty good and he has a talent for weaving seemingly disparate plots together. His hatred of women poisons what could be a decent read.
This is the third book in the ShadowRun Series written by Nyx Smith. It’s been awhile since I read the two previous books, but I believe some of the characters appear in the earlier books. That being said, this book stands perfectly fine on its own.
It does have a somewhat confusing morass of characters which slowly come together to tell a disjointed story. The main two elements of the story have, Tikki a weretiger, who is trying to rescue her abducted cub and sets out on a ruthless campaign to track down and punish all who stand in her way. And there is also Amy Berman, a corporate executive, who discovers fraud occurring within her within her department. She must figure out what is happening and then try to minimize the damage this may have for her company.
Other characters include Bandit, a shaman and Amy’s long lost brother. Brian and Art, public employees and WasteWater Management problem solvers. Minx and Monk, ambulance chasers and “soul suckers” of the dying. Drs. Liron Phalen and Ben Hill, scientists, magicians and researchers of the arcane.
The author will jump between all of these characters trying to tell the story of Tikki and Amy. But honestly, some of these characters, Brian, Art, Minx and Monk don’t seem to add to the overall development of the story. (It is possible, that these characters were used, or will be used in other novels, and author is trying to maintain continuity with his books). Even though there are a lot of pieces to the puzzle they are brought together nicely in the end. There is a battle between Tikki and her cub’s abductors as well as a battle between Bandit/Amy and the “evil” magician Phalen. As expected good triumphs. I feel the story is well written with distinct characters and excellent dialogue, but wraps up a little too quickly. I would have liked to seen more of what to the characters after the conflicts were resolved. Overall, one of the better ShadowRun books I’ve read.
In the world of Megacorporations in a Sci-Fi setting. Some corporations are doing an audit finding that someone is secretly skimming some money for some purpose meanwhile a metahuman in a striper or a weretiger is looking for her cub that was taken from her.
Took some time, I'm not been in a reading mode. But I did like it. The return of some old characters like Tikki aka Stripper. The crazy couple Minx and Monk too. As also the shaman Bandit is back.
