I have very fond memories of the arcades when Street Fighter II came out. There was a certain mystique about it then. You had kids like me, who had begged their parents for some spare change so they could play, that didn't know a thing. Oh, we read the instructions on the side of cabinet. We might even have learned a special move or two. But we were scrubs, plain and simple. But then there were the other kids, usually an older kid, perhaps a teenager, who knew the game. I'd watch, awed, as they linked together combos and played the game the way it was meant to be played.

But apart from all the wonder at how people could play that game as if it were a piano, there was curiosity. Who were these fighters? What did that Japanese guy in the martial arts uniform do apart from wandering around and fighting? What was up with the evil dictator guy?

I got older - times changed - but Street Fighter was always there. Oh, it went through a slew of different incarnations, but the old magic was always there. Ryu, Chun Li, Ken, and the whole gang came back game after game. I grew up with them, and I never stopped wondering about what sort of people they were. Then the anime came out, the comics came out, and the backstory finally started to come together.

If you grew up with Street Fighter, if you loved the game, then this comic is for you. It brings to vivid life the story behind the game. The art is crisp, colourful, and stylish. The dialogue is exactly what you'd expect from these famous characters. But more than anything, it feels right. It feel like Street Fighter. There is something in it for every fan - every character has at least one chapter in the sun.

If you love Street Fighter, you will love this.
