I've read several of Debra Webb's books in the past. When I saw a post on Facebook from Cindy Gerard raving about DIRTY, I decided to give it a whirl. Whirl is the correct word! What a fun, fun ride this was!Jackie is in her mid forties, divorced, and runs a successful private investigation firm. Her uncle has just retired and she is looking for a new partner. Help arrives in the form of Derrick Dawson. Jackie doesn't realize Dawson has his own agenda.
The story revolves around a one night stand Jackie had 10 years ago, on the night of her divorce becoming final. Now she receives a picture of the stranger she spent one night with, and stirs up a whole nest of trouble with both local and federal law enforcement types. We learn how Dawson fits into all of this, as well as the roles played by Jackie's father and uncle. Lots of twists and surprises, with a satisfying conclusion.
This was a fast paced, action packed, rip roaring, take no prisoners kind of read. Jackie has real life issues - her son wants to leave school, her ex was a jerk, she has body issues, her mom is a little wacky, her assistant is a nosy, micro-managing paragon who wants to do field work...Her most recent lover is a wanted felon. Okay, maybe that one is a little "out there", but Jackie is infinitely relatable as a character.
I loved Jackie's friends, and can't wait to find out what Mary Ann's secret may be. And Dawson...good grief, one of the hottest sex scenes I have read in...oh, ever, and they were fully dressed. We simply MUST have more(and by more, I mean less clothing, more skin)Dawson. Okay? Thanks!
If you like the Stephanie Plum series, and especially if you are a woman in your mid thirties and up, you will probably love this! As another reviewer said, Jackie is who Stephanie wants to be when she grows up. Can't wait for the next installment!
Easily 5 Stars. This was a great book! Little bit of romance, lots of humor & a good mystery. We, the readers, watch the plot develop along with the main character, Jackie. Jackie was a great character, I loved her. I liked all the characters, even the bad guys. It was very well written & I would read it again.
The author of this book Debra Webb is such a special lady and author. Last July Debra was in an accident and was very hurt. She lost the use of her Right arm and hand. You can imagine how devastating that had to be for her because it was her writing hand. With courage and determination she has forged through her disability and has written this book. To Quote Brenda Webbs "This feels like a new beginning with all kinds of potential!"
Dirty by Debra Webb
Mystery/Thriller Romance
Jackie Mercer is a 45 year old Knock-out Private investigator/Bondsman. She's Sassy and Sexed up. She has taken over her Uncle's business "Mercer Detective Agency". She's in need of a partner since her uncle has retired. In comes Ex-cop and heart throb Mr. Derrick Dawson. A mystery turns up for them to investigate and it stirs up lots of trouble. Will they find out the truth before it's too late? Well you're going to have to read it to find out!
Though Jackie knows she's hot she has some self-esteem issues and at her age she enjoys a good romp like any other woman. I feel many of us can relate to this character. She smart and not scared to say what needs to be said. Jackie is a woman after my own heart. My Favourite quote from the book is "I'm a Private Investigator who does a little bounty hunting on the side. And your ass is mine, Darling". That sass added to the class she has, well it made for a great read. The action continues throughout the book with barely a boring moment. The book kept me guessing all the way through and I was happily surprised by the ending. If your looking for a great read then this is a perfect book for you!

I thought that Dirty was a fun book, and I enjoyed both the suspense and the laughs. I liked the character of Jackie Mercer, and really enjoyed the sexual tension between she and Derrick Dawson. The storyline kept me interested, and I am hoping to read more about these characters.
Jackie Mercer is a forty-something divorced private investigator who doesn't have the best luck with men. She is dealing with the impact of having to arrest the latest guy she invited to her bed when she receives a package with a picture of a guy she had a one night stand with ten years ago. It says that she was the last one to see him alive before he disappeared ten years ago. Jackie's Uncle Hank has just retired, leaving her with the need for a partner, and too attractive Derrick Dawson is her only applicant. Jackie has lots of puzzles to solve, and she has to do it without putting herself into more danger than she can get out of.
Dirty gave me quite a few laughs, and kept me entertained throughout. I liked Jackie, although I have to say that she sometimes seemed pretty shallow for a woman her age. I thought that the book had plenty of action, and I liked the fast pace. I received this book as an ARC from Netgalley.
What a fantastic book! Dirty is the story of a private investigator who is looking to solve a case pertaining to a one night stand in her past, only to discover that there is a very tangled web in the way of discovering the truth.
Jackie is an excellent protagonist and completely believable. She feels like someone you could meet on the street. I love how easy it was to gain her perspective on the events going on in her life. By the end of the book, I felt like Jackie and I could be friends, even though she has a couple decades on me.
I also loved Dawson. He's mysterious, sexy, and completely throws Jackie off balance, creating some great situations that he and Jackie have to work through.
I fullheartedly give Dirty 5 stars for being an excellent and very compelling read. Be sure to pick up a copy and try it for yourself!
“Fred was the sort who had difficulty keeping his wiener in the same bun.”
I laughed for 5 minutes after that. This book is fun, funny, snarky, sexy, suspenseful, full of sexual tension and a MUST read. The heroine in this bk is a bit older than most you read about. Jackie's a tough, sassy, kickass, sexy 45 year old private investigator. The side characters here are a varied group and wonderfully written. This is gonna be a great series. Anxiously awaiting bk 2.
Cindy Gerard – thanks ever so much for the rec. This bk would make a great movie.
I did not want to like this book. I'm not a mystery fan nor a romance fan, but will read them if I can't find anything else. But Debts Webb made it really difficult to not like this book. I don't like the sex-obsessed middle age yet devestatingly attractive main character who always works hard on her body in the gym yet ironically spends the whole book pigging out on Big Macs, fries and ice cream or chocolate character these types of books feature, but Debra Webb makes up for the stereotypical main character by delivering a readable story.
The main character is a piece of character (!) with her sass, her wit and her energy. AND she is not a young, perfect beauty. She is over forty, runs the best detective agency in town and despite being beautiful she struggles to find a man who can take that much woman. Which begs the question: who the hell chose this cover?
I thought this was a refreshing novel, with lovely characters and lots of laughter. WILL definitely read the next novels in the series.
It took me a few days to read this one as I'd been quite ill and not up to reading (doesn't bear thinking about does it!) and even though I struggled a bit I loved it. Who wouldn't love a feisty female character nearly the same age as me, who wears kick ass clothes, looks great and takes charge.
She investigates a ten year old case that everyone has told her to leave alone, and digs up more problems on a daily basis.
She's a ballsy character yet has some real woman insecurities that make her believable.
This was a free ebook, so I downloaded it and started to read. I almost stopped at the opening scene - it was very sexually explicit, and I thought the book would turn out to be erotica. I'm glad I decided to skip ahead. It hooked me and delivered a good mystery with a sassy female detective and a funny undercurrent of almost-romance. I am watching for the next in the series.
I started reading this book and felt like I was reading all about Stephanie in on e Janet Evanavich's book. Very similiar hero1ns. Lots of imaginary sex but it is a laugh a minute as Jackie the PI goes about solving her cases. I loved it
Loved this thrill ride! Jackie is so feisty and all her friends are hoots. This had it all for me... Romance, mystery, danger. I really enjoyed this one and I am hoping there is more to Dawson & Jackie's story!
Sexy men and a confused heroine. What could be better? Add a rowdy group of best friends and a mother searching out the new fad. Add danger and suspense. This book is captivating. It held my attention and proves women over forty still have what it takes to solve the mystery. Definitely a must read.
Main character was a hypocrite. I just couldn't relate to a character who is so self-aware and yet so hypocritical and played into double standards so easily despite the well played out mystery behind the character.
Great freebie find! I'm definetly going to read more of Debra Webb's books! And I can't wait for 'Love Is Murder' to be released, so I can hear more about Jackie and Dawson.
