This is a rather odd story of a young woman from a rich background who blames the money for the breakup of her parents marriage. The constant pursuit of wealth leading to neglect of his wife and family cost the heroine's father, first his wife, then his daughter who left home rather than submit to his matchmaking plans with the rich young men he kept pushing at her.

When Katherine's aunt brings her step-son to England from Madeira, claiming he was in need of money to rebuild the family business, Katherine is overwhelmed. Luis is everything she ever wanted i a man and even better, he isn't absorbed by the pursuit of riches like her father.

The marriage that follows is full of passion but when Katherine learns she was tricked into marrying an extremely wealthy young man, her rather confused principles make it impossible for her to accept the new situation.

I should mention that Luis is rather a rapey hero when crossed but on those couple of occasions, the heroine wakes up extremely satisfied and she acknowledges it.

I've read this a couple of times and apart from a little niggle at the heroine's immaturity over her 'principles' I enjoyed it.

Holy sh*tsnacks! This book. Just no!

It’s a perfect example of first world problems where you can be born into wealth, decide that you have principles and want to be more like the poor working class.

You move into a poky flat with used furniture and take a “job” volunteering without worrying about how to pay your bills, buy food, or survive. Cause you have a rich daddy and once you’re done with your principles you can run back to the lap of luxury and move on with your wealthy ass life!

So yeah, that’s the h in a nutshell. The H pretends to be a guy in need of money. The H offers him the money she inherited from her aunt on one condition, he marry her. The b*tch buys a husband. Principles?!?!

The H is actually a millionaire from Madeira, Portugal. He marries the principled witch and takes her home with him, after a week’s honeymoon in her poky flat living like a poor person. When she gets to Madeira she learns that her husband is really wealthy and she was tricked. She swears she loves him, but her principles will not allow her to accept his wealth and luxurious lifestyle. So she makes his life as complies she can.

Mind you, the H is no catch either. He’s obnoxious, arrogant and abusive. He wrapped his hands around her neck quite a few times, forces her to have sex with him (almost rape) and when she is curled into a ball afterward, he digs his fingers into her and forces her to uncurl her body, leaving scratches.

Then there’s the way he tracks the h’s movement every where she goes. He barely lets her out of the hotel they are living in and the entire staff is spying on her for him. It’s so bad that he actually puts a tape recorder in the taxi taking her around so he can record her conversation! WTF?!

So these two winners really do deserve each other. She treats him like poop and justifies it with “I love you but my principles” and he is just nasty as f!

The h is immature, the H is abusive and the best part of the book was learning about Madeira. It seems like a lovely place but if the men from there are like him, I’ll stay away, thanks!

For a long while I wanted to read this book and finally I found it.

Unfortunately, I was disappointed. Not once through the story did I warm up to the main male character. He thought whatever he did was right and could not or refused to acknowledge others ideals and opinions.

The main female character was so hurt by her parents divorce and the reasons for it, the chip on her shoulder made it hard for her to see or understand what happened or the reality now that she was an adult.

Yes, they reached their HEA, but I truly believe it is really an HFN. There can only be strife on the horizon with his god like attitude to being a husband.

What did you think? Well, I think it had a lot of potential. The premise seemed interesting but as usual the heroine had to ruin it. As all bad heroines usually are, she was immature, irritating and silly. She was getting on my nerves with her constant reiteration of , "I hate rich men." The hero was equally irritating. Maddening in fact. I don't understand why we never get a POV of the hero. The heroine tries to drum up righteous anger on an issue so stupid you feel like throttling her.
I admire her principles but in championing for the underdog she seemed to have blinded herself to the other half of the story. The hero has my sympathies though he was annoying too. The hero forces (rapes) the heroine once and we get to know how in spite of herself and the circumstances, the heroine couldn't help herself from enjoying it. Why? Well because she loves the hero. So on one hand we learn how much she loves the hero, on the other hand she hates him because he is rich. What a mess she is! And what a torture it was for us, the readers!

Apart from all those stupid principles of the girl I enjoyed reading the book. I was getting irritated all the time whenever Katherine mentioned them.
