Loved it! It was such a gentle romantic novel. Everything flowed smoothly. Lucas and Rachel complemented each other so well. I almost felt like i was living on Highland Beach with them. As a matter of fact, i just might make a trip down there one of these days to take in the peace and comfort of the beach that Rachel and Lucas enjoyed...making sure to bring a new Sandra Kitt novel to read while i'm feeling that ocean breeze. :-)
This has been the 3rd novel of hers that I've read. I very much like that her characters are every people making their way through life. No one's s drug dealer, entertainer or sports figure. They aren't perfect or fragile. But their lives have given them a few turns. These stories could be about people you know. Which is why I like them. Romance with a dose of reality.
I really enjoyed this! I loved the varying personalities of the characters, and the interactions between them were great. The writing was strong, and the plot was amazing. This was my first book of this author’s, and I’ll definitely be looking for more!
The book had a good premise. however, I felt it fell short. It did not keep my attention as I had hoped. It also didn’t have enough conflict between the two main characters.
I was taken in by this novel from the start. Rachel is such a free and grounded person. Lucas also have a grounded side but the reader didn't get that until later.
Julia gifted her son the love of lifetime. Rachel is what Lucas needed in his life. Someone who's honest, loving, and creative. I didn't like what his grandparents did but I understand to a certain point. When Julia settled in Highland Beach, why couldn't they allow him to decide on whether he wanted a relationship with his mother. Another thing Rachel help Lucas see was his mother through her eyes. This caring woman who mentored a young creative to follow her dreams-Don't be afraid to close your eyes and leap".
Highland Beach was another character in this novel and it was the perfect oasis for Lucas and Rachel to start and continue this romance as they're falling in love and planning a future together. This book is about forgiveness, second chances, and falling all the way in love.
Southern Comfort: after the death of his estranged mother Julia, Lucas must face his complex feelings about her and his family. His feelings are further complicated when the will is read. Julia left Lucas her Highland Beach house…but the inheritance is shared with a total stranger, Rachel Givens. Rachel spent the summers of her youth vacationing in Highland Beach and grew close to Julia, seeing her as a mother figure. But Julia kept many secrets, including Lucas. Neither Lucas nor Rachel want to give up the house. They decide to share, growing closer while uncovering Julia’s secret life.
I read Southern Comfort in one night. I loved it! And listen, I read and love all kinds of romance, but something about how realistic, how possible and real, Southern Comfort is really did it for me. Lucas and Rachel are both full adults with lives and careers and hopes that don’t have anything to do with romance. Of course they fall in love and it’s great, but it is more like a bonus to their lives. I really appreciated how minor the third act obstacle was and how quickly it was resolved. Rachel was extremely chill about the whole thing and I loved it. The whole thing is great!
I must say for this being my first time reading Sandra Kitt's work, I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline. I didn't give it a five star because there are questions I feel are unanswered. Questions that maybe are in another story or that Ms. Kitt may have answered elsewhere. I'll have to research and find out.
In any event Lucas and Rachel, two people who came together under unusual circumstances. When a death leaves so many unanswered questions and a will makes you have to face them, it makes for a whirlwind of a story.
You'll appreciate the freedom of Rachel's personality and her gift of the arts.
You'll also appreciate Lucas and his ability to carefully consider all angles and having to face his past.
This author has a unique style of writing, which is to develop the each character's story separately before meeting each other. As a reader you get to know these characters and feel a kinship with them.
Rachel Givens and Lucas Scott story did exactly that. Rachel meeting Julia Winters and forming such a bond; and Lucas growing up without the benefit of having his mother in his life, but raised by loving grandparents.
I loved how they came together and slowly built their relationship and how the author wove this beautiful story.
Love this! Sandra Kitt knows how to weave a tale. This is a love story with a different twist and I fell in love with Rachel and Lucas. So much so that I wish there was a follow-up about their relationship.
I wish the couple in the story had more of a conflict to overcome romantically. Lucas' struggle to forgive his mother was interesting, but he and Rachel did not have enough to work through to carry a romance novel. It was an okay read.
So far it’s a story about two people who view one woman very differently. There is so much build up and unnecessary beef that I’m becoming bored. Rachel is a petulant woman child. She is beyond inconsiderate towards a man who’s mother abandoned him as a child. She doesn’t have to put up with his mommy issues but how dare she try to tell him how to feel. This while occasionally reminding him that he doesn’t know his mother as she does. I don’t like anyone in this story. I’ve waited over 4 hours for a spark. For them to be finally outright flirting at 47% is way too late for a romance imo. I’ll come back to it later but for now I’m bowing out. I need a long break.
