I really enjoyed this short story. I generally don't like male authors, but Mr. Cook cooked up a hot little story that I enjoyed greatly. In this futuristic world, it's pretty harsh and it took me a bit to understand what was going on. Once I understood about the longevity of humans, I really got into the story. The menage was hot. I liked it. The flow of the story was also smooth and other than one minor grammar error, I thought it was very well done. I enjoyed it enough that I'm going to be looking for more of Mr. Cook's stories.

I'm not a pro baby person, but I am a pro population control person, so even thought the first chapter had me wondering if I'd like this, I'm glad I kept reading b/c I can't love this enough! In the 22nd century, boys are sterilized at birth (as opposed to our current culture that puts all the blame and pressure on women). Aging has been "cured" (where do I sign up for this?!) and as a result, death is put of for decades, in some cases centuries. Add in the government needs to approve of breeding, and only by artificial means. In order to get permission to breed, it must be from the husband's family. Now here's the catch: the person who donates their DNA - male or female - has to die. This is how the population is controlled; this is where the balance lies.

When Seana and Greg decide to have a baby and almost everyone says no (they don't want to sacrifice themselves aka die) they turn to William, a distant cousin. William, being rich and powerful that he is, has found a loophole in the "no natural conception" rule, and Greg and Seana must decide if this means is for them. Since monogamy is no longer the norm for anyone, married or not, and women get to choose a new mate if the current one doesn't work out in their favor - without judgement (seriously, can I go to this planet please?!?).

What Greg thought might be jealousy turns into him being more aroused at her being with William that he ever thought, and it turned into a fantastic threesome. Greg and Seana become even closer, and their family is more special b/c of what's been sacrificed.

Anyone who thinks they know erotica needs to read this. See, erotica is more than words on a page, or what I like to refer to as "trigger words" meant to turn on the bored and mundane. However, it's not words that are erotic to a real reader, but HOW those words are used. There are few authors that have stimulated my brain and gave me a great movie playing inside my head. There are very few "erotic" stories that have actually turned me on - this was one of the few.

My only complaint was that this was a short, b/c it has SO much potential to be a great full length novel.

At the end there were excerpts for other books I probably won't read, b/c I'm not into submissive women. Having said that, the author is obviously well read and knows how to get through to readers. I do hope to find another story by this author with more equality, same sex couple or, with any luck, a Femdom read.

My Rating: 3 stars: Liked it, but I had some issues - recommend (B)

Greg and Seana go to rich relative William to ask if he'll willingly die so Seana can get pregnant. William agrees, but the kicker is that he wants to impregnate Seana himself (the old fashion way) before he dies.

A Perfect World is a very short story, not even novella length, which leads little time to develop characters or provide any solid backstory. However, Mr. Cook still finds enough space to create an interesting concept for a future world. The sci-fi features are presented with enough detail to fabricate a thorough picture for the reader.

Overall the story is enjoyable, but rough around the edges. Due to the shorter length, the insinuated bonds and "I love you’s" felt unnecessary and contrived. But with that said, I still had a little tear in my eye at the pinnacle of the story.

A Perfect World is a fun, erotic sci-fi short. Due to the length, there isn’t much story or plot, but the premise is solid and enjoyable.

Seana wants a baby and her time is running out. At age 38 she will be considered too old to have a child and in their society there’s no getting around the laws. In order for Seana and Greg to have a baby someone has to die. They’ve asked everyone in their families and even tried to purchase an accidental death, but those were far beyond their price range. Their only hope is William, a man related to Greg by marriage. But William has everything, looks, fame, money. A perfect life. How can they convince him to die so they can have a baby?

Wow. This short is a different dystopian than I’ve read so far. With a Zero Population Growth Law, in order for a woman to have a baby someone in your family has to die, either by choice or by accident. Accidents don’t happen very often and those that do rarely go out into the open market for people to bid on. Greg and Seana’s last chance at a baby is William. Much to their surprise William agrees. However, he has some stipulations. And boy, are those stipulations unusual for a time when artificial insemination is the standard route for procreation. You see where this is headed, right? Mmmmmm…mmmmm…mmmmmmm. All-in-all a wonderful dystopian with hot steamy goodness and a surprise at the end.

Though short, this was definitely a unique and interesting story. I gave it four stars for that reason, but couldn't give it five because of a few things. It was too short to fully appease me. I wanted more details about the couple trying to have a baby. The premise was interesting, a world with perfect genetics but strict population control, however it took about half the story for me to fully understand what was going on. Also, some of the interaction/dialogue between the couple and supporting character seemed totally outlandish. The emotional aspect was believable because of the situation, but the connection between them was too soon for people who didn't really know each other. I still recommend it for something quick and different.

This review is from: A Perfect World: An Erotic Science Fiction Short Story (Kindle Edition)

An unusual storyline, in the future someone must lose their life for a baby to be born into the world. Conception is only arranged through a doctor. This couple desperately want a baby and they seek out a distant relative to help.

Excellent writing, emotions were portrayed effectively through the three main characters. And the bedroom scene was erotic menage. Will be looking for more written by this author.

This story is the perfect example of a freebie that could have been made into a good full length book.
