This book was so encouraging and gave me a renewed fire and devotion for my role as a Christian wife and homemaker!

"Out of the heart are the issues of life." This, therefore, Christian women, is your especial task. Use all the happy womanly influences in your power to forward the moral education, the Christian civilization, of the country to which you belong. Be watchful, with the unfeigned humility of the Christian, over your own personal course, and the example connected with it. Aim at keeping up, on all occasions, a high practical standard of sound morality at all points. Cultivate every germ of true moral principle in your own homes, and in the social circle about you. Let the holy light of truth, honor, fidelity, honesty, purity, piety, and love brighten the atmosphere of your homes.”

A Fresh Look at Suffrage.

🖊 It is important to note that “this e-text has been prepared from the original two-part magazine article, "Female Suffrage: A Letter to the Christian Women of America," by Susan Fenimore Cooper, which appeared in Harper's New Weekly Magazine, Vol. XLI (June-November, 1870), pp. 438-446, 594-600. The author is identified only in the Table of Contents, p. v, where she is listed as "Susan F. Cooper.")

Very, very interesting publication that I found while looking for another publication. I agree with Susan Fenimore Cooper. The franchise has been squandered, particularly among the uneducated, emotional, and unintelligent females who actually vote.

📕Published in 1870.

At first I thought it was some kind of satirical message carried out to the most extreme ends. Then, I thought it was offensive and written from a horribly obtuse and privileged point of view, even for its time. My final conclusion is that it should be read in its entirety with the first thought in mind, otherwise the impulse to toss this nonsensical madness out the nearest window, into a raging fire, and left to be peed upon by a stray dog will surely overcome. Also, to understand that the privilege and completely sanctimonious bullcrap is horrible for its time and any other time in which humans have existed.

Of course, the one positive of having a historical record of a mindset like the one of this author is to understand conservatives have always used ill informed, pseudo-science, pseudo-scripture propaganda wrapped up in religion as if only true Americans could relate and all else should just leave and find another country.
