A Nephilim Prince, angels, demons, traitors and love…. Threatened by an unholy alliance born in the depths of hell, Damon Sarantos returns to Greece intending to take his father’s place as King. By his side is the one person he has cherished more than any other through a lifetime that’s lasted centuries, his new bride, Reign. Knowing she’s unprepared for the realities awaiting her in the isolated world of the Nephilim, Damon is determined to safely guide his wife into the role of Queen while protecting her from their enemies. But when the couple is ambushed in Athens, the Crown Prince is gravely injured and it’s Reign who must protect him in a sinister palace that will test her sanity and faith. Enemies circle, laying plans to steal the crown. Seeking more than their blood, the ultimate goal is to use the Nephilim people to build an invincible army to destroy all of humanity and set up Satan’s kingdom on earth. Can Damon heal in time to thwart their plan and save his right to the throne? Anointing waits on the other side of fiery trials… if he can survive the flames.
Anointed picks up right where Tamed left off, to use a cliche, and doesn't lose any of the powerful suction power of that first book. Plunged into a whole new world, Reign is nervous and struggles to find her place. I sighed and winced and felt frustrated right alongside her.
Damon has a lot of hard things to deal with in this second book, also, not the least of which is a plot to take his life! Just like in Tamed, I got mad at him a couple times for being so blind...but it was entirely believable the whole time. The Christian message is just as strong and compelling as in the first book. And the happy ending is just what I wanted for them, although a few questions remain unanswered. I wouldn't mind seeing a third book in this series!
What I Didn't Like As Much
Reign and Damon are married now, so again, I wouldn't recommend this book for younger readers. Also, the violence! I found myself cruising past passages at times, unable to take the horror. Reality? Maybe. Necessary? Not for me. All in all, though, Anointed lives up to the expectations I had for it and was engrossing from the first word.
A sequel to Tamed that did not disappoint! Annointed picks up at almost exactly where Tamed leaves off. Reign and Damon are engaged and their wedding is just days away. But the question is, how will the very human and impetious Reign fit into Damon's supernatural world as Crown Prince of the Nephilim - especially once the political intrigue begins to unfold agains Damon's life. The pacing is breathtaking and again Witenhafer preserves both Reign's, and now Damon's Christian faith, while showing just how possible it is for Christians to fail and then regain grace. I love this book not for it's practical theology, but instead for the story that pulled me in and carried he halfway around the world and 2,000 years back in time.
